Swansea Post Match - just feck off

Doubtful, we dont look tired in my opinion.
It highlights the obvious lack of quality and depth in our squad though.

We're to dependent on a few players.

The teams around us drop points today, and that makes our result even more fucking difficult to take

2 ways to look at it.

Since we played first I'd say the other teams didn't take the opportunity to get closer to us or extend their lead and our luck rode.

Am i the only one wondering if we're suffering the consequences of all those distance covered stats?

Maybe a combination of that and our opponents finding a pretty straightforward way to play us - camp in their own half and take advantage of our defensive weakness when it presents itself.

Still only around mid season so no. Their fitness shouldn't be a concern at the stage.

It is but can be looked at the other way, nobody took full advantage so keeps us as an outside bet. Chelsea will though the cunts.

What's frustrating is that I was willing to say, "ok, Klopp needs time to get this defence right", after how terrible it became under Rodgers, but we're still in that situation where I feel like we're going to concede everytime the opposition gets near our area, or have a setpiece/corner. Our possession game and high pressing takes the pressure off the defence and that seems to be where we've cut a corner on our defensive woes, but we're still as brittle and ridiculous as we were, as soon as we are exposed.

Matip is a fine signing and I really like Milner and Clyne, but what have we generally improved on defensively as a team and as a backline? The only improvement seems to be that the team defends from the front and avoids questions being asked of the defenders too much. Once that's breached, it's same old same old.

It's so up and down though. Against United we defended brilliantly from corners and set pieces. United didn't threaten us that way.

I know you pick and choose your moments to press but it doesn't seem we press as a team anymore, it's not just about 1 player...because if 1 player closes down and the rest don't follow it leaves massive gaps in behind.

Which is basically why Can keeps finding himself exposed...You always seem him pressing but everyone behind him is walking.

I've just read the match thread and a couple of people were having a grumble at Klopp before Swansea even got their first goal.

Correct. I said to our kid at the match, we should change it up at half time. Try something different, even switching Lallana and Wijnaldum? The first half was that fucking bad, nothing worked, zero chances created. Great in hindsight but I wish Klopp would just be a bit more ballsy earlier in games and make a switch. Don't want to go all Dreamy but the likes of Mourinho will change something at half time if it isn't working. Koeman had done it at the blueshite this season. Think they were away at WBA and he took McCarthy off at HT and they went on to win the game.

It wasn't working and needed changing. Juergen fucked up there.

He's quite regularly too slow to make subs. And starting Henderson Can Wijnaldum at home is unbelievably negative and just plain weird. It just doesn't work Jurgen for fuck sake.

We really miss a player that can get to the byline and cut back into dangerous areas.

The closest we have to that is probably milner.

The 2 major concerns over Klopp are still there. He doesn't seem to have a plan B and his in game management is too passive/reactive. The settling in period is over, he knows the league he knows the players. His failures from this point are on him.

One loss and natives are turning on Klopp. Awesome.

It's a bit more than a loss though isn't it, it's 9 goals conceded against 3 of the worst teams in the league. Our defense has spilt over from Rodgers and Matip aside has not been improved much. Milner as outstanding he has been really should not be at LB and Brian Kerr even told us how bad Klavan was before we signed him. And then there is the Zonal marking for set pieces that is as clear as day isn't working...at all. I don't think anyone is turning on Klopp yet but it may not be very long till they do.

What? Our rivals dropped points, so had we would we would have closed the gap. That feels like a loss AND a missed opportunity to most of us I reckon.

If they had all won, we'd be further behind. It's a good thing they dropped points, it means losing doesn't impact our chances as much.

Well actually, you're both right.

It's a double edged sword.

Yes, it's a good thing, because our rivals haven't pulled further away from us (although Chelsea almost certainly will do against hapless Hull).

Yes, it's a bad thing, because had we won our home match, against the side bottom of the league, then we'd have widened the gap between us & third place.

What is clear however, is that every team is struggling with this hectic period of games. Now we're clearly struggling more, but that's inevitable because of those top five sides we have the worst squad depth.

I still blame Klopp to a large degree, because it seems to me we're doing the same thing over & over, expecting different results. Although in his favour I will accept that he sent that side out to play more expansive, wide playing football yesterday, & the players seemed incapable of doing it consistently.

We're challenging for a top four spot in his first full season. We're a far more effective team than we have been for years. He brings a lot more good than bad and he's the best manager we've had for a long, long time.

If people turn on him, they are idiots. That's not to suggest his decisions can't be questioned of course.

I think it'll be a long time before anyone turns on Klopp, unless we get new owners who give him huge funds, which is fucking unlikely.

All I'm seeing so far is people being angry that the defence still suffers the same issues it did two seasons ago, & that when playing teams who park the bus we still struggle to score. They're both reasonable points.

Of course there's also reasons why that might still be the case, & most of them involve not having the funds to change the side as much as necessary or create the strength in depth to cope with losses.

I completely agree with all your points but he simply doesn't have a plan B and for a coach that is supposed to be one of the best is way too slow to act during match time also. We need to buy, it really is that simple. The squad is ridiculously thin.

Developing a Plan B is part of the "work in progress" that we are at the moment. IMO it's going too far to say that we haven't got one (for example we saw it at Old Tw@tford against the Mancs, whom we'd have beaten with a more competent referee - if there only was one - in charge) but we have to get better at putting it into action, and I doubt that'll be possible until we bring new signings in.

Plan B's are extinct or myths apparently, according to a thread a few weeks back. Not too long ago, having players who can cross the ball was also deemed to be something from the Dark Ages.

United changed things at half time against us and then threw on Fellaini so they could go long/more direct and make the ball stick, it worked. It's frustrating that we don't try to mix it up. Our attempt at mixing it up yesterday was to throw Matip upfront for 4 minutes, which was just pointless and even more annoying.

I don't think we need a plan B, just some better players. We've badly missed Matip, Coutinho and Mane. And Lallana and Firminos form dipping is no coincidence.

Our form will be a lot better when all three are back in the team, and Lallana gets to play a bit further back.

Longer term, we need to be able to deal with missing a few players.

And that's all I was doing in my earlier post. Questioning his decisions.

Hardly 'turning'.

Agree with your statement Above.
