The young Spaniard has enjoyed a solid loan-spell at La Liga strugglers Almeria making 24 out of a possible 26 league appearances.

The 20-year-old has been the subject of recent interest from Sevilla but the midfielder made his intentions for next season clear in an interview with El Desmarque.
"I’m speaking with Liverpool to see if I can extend my contract. Next year they will probably be in the Champions League and it would make me very excited to compete in it."

These statements come as a slight surprise to the media in Spain after the youngster stated only a few days prior that he would be happy with another season on loan at Almeria.

"Almeria have given me the chance to play in the first division and I would not mind at all continuing here one more season, but as I said, it does not depend just on me."

Suso signed a contract with Liverpool in 2012 which expires in the summer of 2015.

I really don't see what other people see in this kid. Oh well. He'll come back and be shit, or come back and be great, or leave and be mediocre elsewhere.

Someone at the club obviously had a word with him after his last comments. And maybe his last comments were intended to see if we were still interested in keeping him. Looks like we are.

He's sublimely talented but the jury's still out on whether he's got the mental toughness to make it here. I hope he does.

Seriously, in what way Jon? I've watched in several times and he's never done anything that has made me think "wow that was sublime."
Admittedly I haven't seen a lot of him, but I want to give the kid a fair shake.

I don't doubt hes got a lot of talent and he looks a really good young player but theres something about him that makes me think he won't make it here, can't really explain what it is, gut feeling i suppose.

On the other hand i look at Tex and think he has definately got 'it' and will turn out to be a big player for us, again its more a gut feeling than anything else.

He's got the touch, balance and all round quality on the ball. His head tends to drop when things aren't going well though. I've watched him live for the u19's and always thought him and Sterling were of a similar stand out quality. Sterling always looked mentally tougher.

I feel the same about both. Hope I'm wrong about Suso though.

1 year left, doing well in a La liga team, young...4 to 6 million.

Depends on how much they want him though.

I've always just felt he lacks any kind of physical prowess. His two standout abilities, his close control and long passing, IMO would be best suited to the wing or a deep-lying playmaker like Alonso. But he doesn't have the pace for the wing or the presence to sit at the heart of midfield, so it's a bit difficult to see where he fits, really.

He might just prove to be one of those players better suited to a foreign league.

Well, if he could learn to press well, I don't see why he couldn't one of the two advanced players in the inverted triangle midfield. He has about the same built as Coutinho, so I don't see why he can't play there as well (at least in theory).

Suso needs more time to develop but he also needs patience.
He's probably the most talented of our recent crop of reserves.

He's got some important decisions to make this summer. Either he sticks with us and develops further surrounded by top class players or stays in Spain to collect a decent pay check. Cause they are gonna offer him more money that's for sure.

I doubt he'll get more money at a middling Spanish club. Agree though, crucial summer for him.

[article]Suso however admitted he would be tempted by a move to Sevilla, should they lodge a bid for his services.

He added: "I don’t know anything about that, but maybe they’ve spoken with my agent.

"Sevilla is a club I’ve always admired, for how they live and breathe football, their character, their stadium... It would be a really good place for me. Also, it’s just an hour down the road from my home.”[/article]

Sevilla can afford it imo

I might be wrong but aren't they pretty much broke like most of the clubs in La Liga?

Again, could be wrong but I would imagine that Suso is probably already on what is considered a good wage in La Liga for a player that hasn't quite carved out a reputation for himself.

I don't see Suso staying with us in the long run. If Rodgers believed in him he'd have been at Anfield this year I reckon and definitely wouldn't be talking up a move to Sevilla.

Rodgers' latest comments about Suso were unenthusiastic and non-committal, just mentioning that we'll bring him back in the summer and "see where he is". If Suso's trying to push Rodgers into promising him a bigger role in the next season and a contract extension, he's playing a dangerous game and going about it the wrong way. If he's set his mind on leaving because he's lost patience with the lack of minutes with us, then fair enough. Probably just proves that Rodgers is right in his assessment that he's not what we need.

Suso is probably getting advice from his agent, but I think he'd do well to read for himself some words by Le Tallec from 2012, putting aside the Frenchman's obviously inflated self-assessment of his potential:

Anthony Le Tallec regrets wasting Liverpool chance

Anthony Le Tallec believes he could have emulated the feats of Fernando Torres or Carlos Tevez had he not wasted the opportunity he had as a young striker at Liverpool.

Le Tallec, now 28, moved to Liverpool, under French compatriot Gerard Houllier, from Le Havre when he was still a teenager in 2001 after excellent performances for France's Under-17 World Cup winning team.

But he told sports daily L'Equipe that he regretted having asked the then-Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez to leave the club in 2004 when he was still only 20.

He now plays for Valenciennes in France's Ligue 1 but explained why it did not work out in England when he was younger.

"I had an agent who kept telling me St Etienne wanted me. Benitez was recruiting Spanish players. I told myself I would not have my chance.

"It hurts when, after Liverpool, you play in smaller clubs. I did not realise that I was in a great club. I have regrets. When I see Torres, Tevez, who are of the same generation, I say to myself 's***'.

"My agent tells me: 'Torres stole your career!," he added, laughing.

"I'm not jealous but I say to myself that I could have done like him."

While on Liverpool's books he was loaned to St Etienne, Sunderland, Sochaux and Le Mans, signing a permanent deal with Le Mans in 2008 before moving to AJ Auxerre in 2010 and Valenciennes this season.

He has scored five goals from seven Ligue 1 appearances with Valenciennes, who are sixth in the standings ahead of Friday's trip to St Etienne.

St Etienne?

I watched Le Tallec and Pongolle play a lot for Le Harve as I've got family not too far from there; they were absolutely convinced they would be world-beaters. I don't think I have been so disappointed by a footballer as I was by Le Tallec. There's still part of me that hopes he comes good. Admittedly that is possibly a long shot now.

He lacked work ethic and determination ... He had everything else. If he had say Ronaldo's work ethic and dedication, he'd have been an excellent player (worst case scenario).

there were flashes of brilliance from LeTallec, but I never really expected big things from him. I've seen more from the likes of Suso and Sterling.

Balls. I meant Le Harve.

I think Rodgers is handling it okay. I suspect he's in touch with Suso often enough. He doesn't want to pile pressure back on him by saying much about what'll happen when he returns. I don't think it's non-commital, just a sensibly low key approach.

I think he'd be great to have in the squad.
Suso, Texeira, McCaulin etc are perfect players that should keep us from spending 4-5 million here and there and wasting away 10s of millions on so called squad players.
Which really makes the Alberto purchase all the more baffling.

Yes, it's so baffling to buy a player who is:
a) clearly talented, although not yet a finished article
b) highly rated by our manager and scouts as well as others who follow Spanish football
c) most likely going to increase in value with years
