Summer rebuild 2023

Only I don’t have to worry about getting my heart broken because I know Klopp has as much faith and belief in our sexy new number 9 as I do, that’s the thing with great minds you see…they think alike!!!!

I don't think it's a case of being an FSG apologist. We are only 2 weeks into the window. We have had journalists who are reputable say we are after more midfielders and a centre back. I don't have an issue with people who are more optimistic about things and more confident we'll sign the players we need to. But it just feels at the moment a bit like other summers of late; can't pay the bigger transfer fees, dithering about signing players; I half expect James Pearce to start saying Klopp is happy with what he has.

This aged well.

I note that the Lavia links don't seem to be at the expense of Thuram, which I hope is the case; Lavia is more of a defensive midfielder and Thuram more of just a one-off, physical beast who can win the ball from deep and drive forward with it. I hope we sign them both, considering we're probably a season away from Thiago leaving and I dunno what appetite Henderson has to play a bit part role.

I fully expect Nunez to be much more consistent next season. It's not always easy to settle into a new club (or job), and the team in general was struggling last time. Compare how Luis Diaz first came into a side that was fairly flying at the time. Given a decent pre-season and the players feeling mentally fresher than 12 months ago, I see no reason why JK can't get this team firing again. He's too good a manager, and will soon start getting the best out of Nunez. Have faith.

Look at this new poster spouting nothing but absolute common sense. Truly we are living in a golden age

With Ali Mac, Soboss, and a confident trent; i can't see a world where Nunez DOESN'T dominate this year

The world where Gakpo crushes it as a False 9, Diaz plays like he did at the start of last season and Jota doesn’t act like a ginger snap dipped in a cuppa tea.

So what you're saying is you can't imagine a world where nunez isn't great this year either.

Glad we're all on the same page

Let's say we get Lavia and Thuram and a CB. where does that leave the following? My opinion after the dash
Thaigo - will play when fit
Gomez - Sold
Matip - Sold
Hendo - Millie role
CJ - Sold, always runs the risk of being injured. Could potentially bring in £30m after U21 Euros
Steph - CDM, RB and CB
Fabs - CDM, RB and CB
Elliott - Loaned out
Morton - Sold

So for you buying one CB equals selling two? And Fabs + Badger Tits are NOT CBs. FFS.

Steph and Fabs have both played CB. Forget what I would do, I want to know what others would do, because if we get both Thuram and Lavia our MF will be stacked so some of them will have to pay alternative position to get games

I think it’s impressive how much you’ve got wrong there - like pretty much everything is wrong.

That's my view, why not state yours

Gomez likely won’t be sold.
Matip likely won’t be sold
Hendo can’t play the “Millie role” - but he can cover across midfield
CJ isn’t being sold
Badgertits isn’t a RB and hasn’t once featured as a CB outside of youth teams - so he’s likely going to play in MF only.
Fabs isn’t going to play at RB or CB in a Klopp team unless it’s an emergency - like Salah isn’t going to play as a LB unless there’s an emergency.
Elliot isn’t getting loaned out.
Morton isn’t getting sold.

Will that do?

I do think Hendo could do a bit of a millie role. Like, i can see him being used as an emergency right back.

I agree with the point you make bluebell.
It's probably no bad thing to have a larger squad, given the injuries and loss of form that some players have suffered in the last few seasons, and having Bajcetic and Fabinho able to play in more than one position can only help, rather than trying to cover with inexperienced players in a crisis.

Yet you are so wrong so often people just overlook it
Does Klopp play players out of position when need be? I definitely can see Klopp utilising some of his MFs in alternative positions when and if injuries mount. Amongst the MFs which few can play several positions
There is expectation Big Dom will play out wide when Salah leaves for Afcon. Doak probably play more cup gamesm but I can't see him getting more than cameo appearances in the league

I’ve never said I’m right all time - but then I do go listing utter nonsense that makes now sense all the time either.

How often has Fabs played in a role other than DM or Hendo outside of midfield?

The whole point of someone filling in when it’s an emergency is…. It’s an emergency and you don’t expect that to last - it takes away from other areas of the team - remember when all our CB’s were dead and we played all our MF’ers in defense, thereby fucking up our midfield?

Why, given we’re struggling for home grown players would we sell 2, particularly given that Phillips, Van den Berg & Kelleher are more likely to be loaned or sold?

Why would we loan Harvey when we’ve just spent a season complaining about a lack of MF’ers and have seen a net loss of midfielders from the registered squad of 25 - despite signing 2?

Why would we sell Curtis and keep 31 yo Thiago who’s likely leaving on a free at the end of the season - meaning we need to likely spend more than the £30m you reckon we’ll get for Curtis to replace him in the next 12 months? How does that make sense?

Why sell Morton - his valued hasn’t peaked and he doesn’t need to be registered in the squad of 25. A loan, maybe, but what’s the motivation to sell?

Why not loan Doak out - he can’t play in Europe unless he’s registered as a senior player

Utilising someone in an emergency is not the same as wilfully selling a large chunk of the team for no apparent reason - you’d be amongst the first to lose their shit if Konate gets injured, we’ve sold Matip & Gomez leaving one new guy or Hendo/Fabs covering CB with Thiago likely injured and fuck all cover for midfield with Harvey, Curtis, Morton all gone.

Incidentally - Badgertits injury record suggests we should be cautious about relying on him to stay fit.

We’d be right back in the same fucking mess we’re trying to get out of with players playing out of position, no cover and a disjointed team and you crying about needing to buy another 300 players.

Just for once… think about some of this shite before you spew it out in a thread.

How about we hang on to Gomez, Curtis, Harvey and Morton (although not against a loan for him - give him to So’ton for a year) and possibly Matip & Thiago to give depth.

We can still sign Thuram & Lavia if we want - then we can figure out which CB we need and whether we need to shift an OS player or not to accommodate him - and if we are, maybe we shift one of the injury prone 30 yo’s that are leaving in a year if we can find someone to take them.

Then maybe, you know, we could try not playing guys out of position and concentrate on getting something resembling consistency and depth for a change?

I've never been his biggest fan but why the F would we sell CJ? Been one of our brightest sparks last season, still young and a local lad.

Lcm: AM/CJ
Rcm: DS/KT
DM: RL/SB

Is the dream midfield right?

I think this guys my favourite poster on here (other than my good self).

So this is how we're shaping up for next season so far then.....

----------------------Alisson---------------------
(Kelleher)

Trent-------Konate--------Virgil---------Robbo
(Bradley) (Matip) (Gomez) (Tsimikas)

-----------------------Fabinho-------------------------
(Bajcetic)

---------Szoboszlai-------------Mac Allister-------
(Henderson) (Jones)
Salah------------------Nunez------------------Diaz
(Elliott) (Gakpo) (Jota)

Have I missed anyone out? Other than your Adrians/Sepps/Phillips that no one really gives a toss about.

I feel like the those combinations will open the safe to a PL title, come next May.

Glad I got that off my chest…

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Nunez is not starting ahead of Gakpo through the middle, but that’s broadly the state of play- other than Thiago’s still in there somewhere.
