Summer rebuild 2023

So, let’s say:

Trent (possibly hybrid RB/DLP role)
Fabinho (DM)
Bajcetic (DM/LCM)
Mac Allister (everywhere)
Henderson (also everywhere, I guess)
Thuram (LCM)
Curtis Jones (LCM)
Szoboszlai (RCM/AM)
Elliott (RCM/AM)

(I still think Thiago will leave if we sign 3 new midfielders)

Is this good/deep/balanced enough?

Yes - I like that, but I am hoping Thiago stays for this season at least, but we need a defender regardless. But the one thing I cannot accept is Trent in the RCM role, like he did for England. Not going to have a player be neat and tidy and waiting 90mins for that one killer pass. I like the inverted bollox that Trent was doing, and we should use that sparingly against low blocks. Also @rurikbird - just out of curiosity - I cannot quite work out what position Curtis is playing in the U21 tournament right now, based on the two games I have watched. He seems to be doing the deep lying midfielder role on the left hand side like Thiago was bought in to do for us. He is doing it really well.

Adam Mcadams on Sky Sports transfer round up claiming money is tight.

? - erm - it's always been tight under FSG except when we sold Coutinho. We never have any money, even after reaching 3 finals and coming 2nd by 1 point, we never had any money after winning the CL, and PL. We know this.

I dont even know who that guy is, and I’d expect someone else to talk about it if it was true.

I don't think he is saying something which requires incredible inside information. We know that if we end up paying for Szoboslai, that would pretty much be the end of our summer transfer purchases. We most probably wont do that as we are trying to stretch the money over midfield and central defense.

I refuse to get my information about our financial situation from a guy with a your mum joke in his bio.

If we got Thor, Big Dom, and no CB, The total outlay of about £120m ish, how would you rate the summer window?
Depends on the outgoings.

If we can get 40-50m from Nat Gomez Kelleher Sepp then suddenly it becomes a 8/9

If we end up selling Salah which turns out to fund the transfers then it becomes a 1.

If no outgoings and it's how you've laid it out.....then I'd give it a 7.

Can we keep going in the transfer market and have a Klopp version of these? 😀

So far, how are we looking? (excuse the typo on Robbo's name.)

Ideally, I would love us to sign 1 or 2 more.

Someone capable of being a DM, but also fall back into the RB position (Timber?). And maybe another LCB/LB type like an Ake.

Might allow us to play TAA in AM, and Dom in RW when Mo goes off to Afcon.

Right now, we're looking like this without Salah:

It’s more likely a left sided CB that can also play at LB we need - allowing us to move to a 3 at the back in possession with Konate shifting to cover the right & Virgil going central and organising.

That would offer us a variation to Robbo.

If we’re playing a box midfield - then Trent is dropping back to RB when we’re out of possession.

Mac & Slobbers to provide width & midfield creativity up the pitch with Trent playmaking from deep.

It makes it very potent if it comes together - no other team has a Trent capable of doing what he does from deep.

It’ll work if the forward press improves along with the MF press and the defensive group find a way of making sure Virgil & Konate don’t get too spread apart.

Im starting to think Robbo and definitely Tsimakis are the odd ones out in our new system.

If I recall correctly, we activated the release clause meaning those 60 millions had all to be paid upfront with no instalments whatsoever.

I think what he was suggesting was that

We paid the 60m via a loan
The loan doesn't need to be paid back this year
Therefore doesn't come out of our transfer kitty

Which would be wrong imo.

At any rate, I can see why we haggle for £10 million here and £ 5million there. It all adds up and can make a difference when paying back these types of loans, no?

Too expensive.

Leipzig want 100m euros. Far better options for a lot less out there.
I really like Bastoni ( I know he is Italian and all that) but I can't remember who said it, but we're not looking for a starter but a young player who doesn't mind being rotated. Though not said explicitly, we are looking for someone who is cheap. My thoughts are we get the Fulham CB who has one year left who has great injury record or the Bournemouth defender who plays really well as a LB as well as CB bat has had bad injuries in the past a bit like VVD but far healthier than Konate

FSG are cooking people, although I wouldn't be over the moon with Lavia.

The City connection bothers me slightly & perhaps it would spoil the development of Baj would also concern me....would rather we targeted someone a little more experience (preferably a CB) if this is going to be our last signing.

Two solid signings thus far, would like to see one more midfielder coming in, plus at least one strong defender capable of coming straight in the side when required. Would be sorry to see Joe Gomez leave the club. If he can get back to his previous level then he's a great asset to the club. IMHO.

Welcome to SCM

You have just joined….right?

Talk of both Thuram and Lavia joining with Thiago leaving..

Would be heartbreaking personally, I love Thiago. But it would an amazing move. Could secure our future.

You have a strange definition of the word “heartbreaking” there High Yee.

Technically the definition is fine - his heart is being broken by the loss of something he loves…

It’s just the thing he loves…

Bit like if Moron have his heart broken when we sell Curtis and you getting your heart broken when we sell the expensive Origi replacement with the donkey brain.
