Summer rebuild 2023

I’m not sure that was the case, though. We’re just too sentimental.

Surely it’s because he’s familiar with the way we play, has experience, has no issue sitting on the bench, isn’t going to huff, likely isn’t on huge wages, etc, etc.

We’ll likely loan or sell Kelleher, Davies has already gone out on loan and Pitaluga isn’t in any way ready for anything other than League Cup.

I don’t know what English keepers Wed likely be able to pick up that ticks the same boxes and wouldn’t want a tasty signing on fee.

Clearly kicking the can down the road for a year till a couple of the kids are a little bit more developed & Kelleher has been cashed in on.

No clue how long he's been with us, or if he's in the conversation, but Jaros is having an ok euros. He could be a backup

Was he the one on loan to the Southern Irish team last year…

I think one of the multiple kids will play League Cup - not sure they’re up to potentially playing in the league just yet - which is why hanging on to Adrian kind of makes sense.

It’s not great - but it’s understandable - it’s not like we’re buying more than 2 more players without selling someone anyway.

That’s likely but this was more in response to that we couldn’t find buyers for Oxlade Chamberlain and Keita.

I know we're not Man City - and when they sell a player they just want rid of (Cancelo for example) or their freebies move on (David Silva, Gundo), they replace them with whoever the fuck the want ... but we've been so poor in strengthening a CL/PL winning squad. We ignored serious issues that simple fans saw - fuck me, even Stevie Wonder saw it. Now it's too late - and Newcastle ($), Arsenal (smart investment, youth coming up & $) and potentially Man U (right manager? $ always there etc) are with us. To compete, we needed to be ready to buy our primary targets quickly. MacAllister was a really good pick up - but I just worry that we've done what we normally do (and HAPPY TO EAT HUMBLE PIE IF I'M WRONG) and sat on our asses thinking it's enough.

The last few years have just been amazing - the football, the players, the trophies, the manager etc. It was just perfect ... and now it seems we're going to waste the last few years of one of our greatest managers ever - a man who got us, got what the team needed and wasn't backed enough. That's what makes it hurt more - because HE is good enough to compete with ANY team, you just gotta back him ... Going to enjoy the last two seasons with this legend, even as I am already bracing myself this season just to compete for a Europa League/Conference spot as I don't think the investment in the squad will come.

And if you want to remember some of the good times, great show from TAW:

I wouldn't get my hopes up.
€70m sound a bit too much for us.

Liverpool are exploring a move to sign RB Leipzig attacker Dominik Szoboszlai.
They met with 22-year-old’s representatives this week with a view to a transfer this summer.
Any potential deal is complicated, however, and there is an acceptance within the club that it will be a very difficult deal to get done.
Szoboszlai has a €70million release clause in his contract — with conflicting reports about its expiry — but regardless any move would involve a significant financial outlay.
He is the latest attacking midfield option being considered by the club and fits the profile they are looking for in the window, following the earlier pursuit of England international Mason Mount.
As things stand Szoboszlai is high in Liverpool’s thinking amid interest in the likes of both Khephren Thuram and Romeo Lavia, while any move is unrelated to Fabio Carvalho’s proposed loan move to the Bundesliga club.
Szoboszlai is a key player for Leipzig, making 48 appearances during the 2022-23 season, scoring 10 goals.
A regular for Hungary, he also has 32 caps for his country.

Reminder that release clauses usually need to be paid in full, up-front, which would put big pressure on our cash-flow.
Negotiated transfers are usually spread evenly over three instalments. Activating the release clause could weaken our spending power in the current window (but give us more headroom next year / year after).
Obviously it's possible to agree a compromise - e.g. for a player costing £70m, we might agree £75m over 3 instalments, which would mean only £25m cash out of the door now, saving £45m v the release clause route.

This is why i just assume we don't buy release clause players. It's like why you don't haggle at Currys for a tv.

As much as I love that signing he played most of his games last season as a right winger and as an attacking midfielder the season before that.
Do we see him as an 8? How are we going to set the midfield up? We still need other midfielders.

Cheers for that Binny. I think Lavia will be one of the players we go for. He could be our future 6 I'm guessing.

For me he doesn't hit the right notes for how we play, unless we're having Ali at RCM next to fab, and the LCM is more advanced (similar to jones last year).

It could work, but for 60m he isn't the type i thought we needed, especially after buying Ali

Who knew the Saudis would fuck up the market even more?

I don't even think it's the Saudis. Everyone knew barella would be 60mish, everyone knew rice would be 90m+. Who have the saudis overly inflated the market for?

We're just fucking thick. We got a huge fucking bargain in Ali, and now we're surprised that every player doesn't have the type of clause

So we've gone from Thuram, Kone and Viega to Velverde, Big Dom and Mbappe links. If we can only afford stuff in the middle isle of Aldi, Chelsea and Arsenal are spending huge again,
I had high hopes that coming in to this window that the owners would ease the purse strings and let Klopp spend ie get 4 players with a total outlay of £200m but looking back it seems the statements were very much caveated with qualifications for the CL and Investment from a 3rd party.
There's a reluctant reality setting in we might only get 3 players and out spend will be closer to £70-100m. In most windows that would be enough but the years of not investing is showing
