Summer rebuild 2023

Yes, I considered him on the list. Not much at Leeds on the whole though.
What happened to their young forwards Greenwood and Gelhart?
I know gelhart went out on loan to lower league and didn't do great. No clue with greenwood. Even Summerville hasn't had a look in

We were quite close to buying Duje Caleta-Car once upon a time weren’t we? Wouldn’t be surprised if that reappears

It's possible, but IMHO the least likely explanation for what's happening (or, maybe more to the point, not happening) at the moment. Far more likely in my view is that this season Klopp's had to make the best of what he's got because of tight financial parameters laid down and enforced by the owners. Things keep getting posted on here pointing to Klopp's references to e.g.not needing more midfield players, and taking those simply at face value, which to my mind is naïve in the extreme. He's said those things because his bosses have lowered the boom on spending and will expect him to be loyal to their approach in public. I'm a great deal less ready than some on here to imagine that my footballing insight is greater than Jürgen Klopp's.

My post was actually directed at the ongoing experiment with TAA, and having Konate cover RB/CB, Hendo/Elliott cover RB/RCM to accommodate Trent. I'm far from convinced that Trent's little purple patch in the last ten games or so is evidence of Klopp having struck on a permanent solution to address a leaky right hand side.

I'm even less convinced by your repeated defence of Klopp but really, JJ, no one is owed an explanation on this forum and you certainly don't need to persuade me. I still think Klopp genuinely believed what he said when he said in preseason that he had enough midfielders. Why? Because he signed Fabinho, Hendo, Milner, Jones to contract extensions in the last two years. He also tried to offer extensions to Milner and Keita, but was overruled by the club on Milner and Keita did not accept one. When the opportunity did come up to make signings, he chose to fill the squad with Carvalho, Diaz, Nunez and Ramsay, none of whom are midfielders. He fucked up and was tripped up further by some incredible bad luck along the way. But that's ok, I think he'll put things right next season. If I were accused of taking his words at face value, I'd be content with that - I find that preferable to speculating whether his true intentions might be completely at odds with what he chooses to say to the fans publicly. Nothing about this has anything to do with footballing insight. That's it from me on this topic.

What Klopp did is of course a matter of record. Why he did those things is a perfectly legit question to ask and we're clearly not going to agree on the likely answer to it, but that's OK. Peace.

Plundering the relegated.
A mix of prospects, squadies and back-ups in there.

Any candidates for you?

Southampton
Lavia (DM)
Sulemana (FW)
Bella Kotchap (CB)
Walker-Peters (RB)
Alvarez (M/FW)

Leicester
Justin (RB/LB)
Barnes (FW)
Maddison (AM)

Leeds
Sinsterra (FW)

Tyler Adams.

Why aren't we in for him? Leeds went to absolute shit the moment he got injured. Surely cheaper than Ugarte, Caicedo and Lavia and better then Fabinho?

I’d be pretty surprised if we’re not to be honest…a good player with potential on the cheap from a relegated side…moneyball baby!

I’d be up for loaning Leeds someone like Bradley for a season - if they get someone more progressive than Fat Sam as manager.

I wouldn't read too much into it, but (if there is any truth to it) he does offer that burst of pace from defence to MF He alongside Kuddus and Ali Mak could make a world-class MF

Neil Jones has pinpointed one midfielder in whom Liverpool ‘definitely’ have an interest this summer and could find ‘hard to resist’.
Having missed out on the Champions League for next season, and with several players departing and Jorg Schmadtke seemingly set to come in as the Reds’ new sporting director, it could be a very busy few months around the corridors of Anfield ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
The reliable GOAL reporter has compiled a list of the 10 players who appear the most likely potential signings for Jurgen Klopp’s side in 2023, with Khephren Thuram of Nice singled out as one particular target of note.
Jones wrote: “At 22 and having shone in Ligue 1 for Nice, Thuram looks primed, like his brother Marcus, for a transfer this summer. And while Liverpool sources have played down suggestions that a move to Anfield is in the offing, there is definitely interest on the Reds’ part.
“Understandably so, too. Thuram’s age and skillset make him a more than interesting proposition, and for a side which has lacked bite and energy for large parts of this season, it could be one that is hard to resist.”

I heard on a show they want 60M for him. Don't think we pay that much for a midfielder.

L’Equipe reporting we’ve opened talks re Thuram..
