Summer rebuild 2023

He’s a local boy who’d cost more than he’s worth. Like all the English lads. Sigh, wish we had local ones of our own. Hey, wait …

Right. Do we have anyone from the academy who can backfill our squad?
They have to produce something every second or third year you should think.

Some rumours that we’ve made a 50 mill bid for Thuram.
€ or £ also isn't he out due to knock last game? I was reading we we're looking at Seko Fofana. He played for 3 years at Man City at youth level, does that mean he can play as a home-grown?

I don't know what I want from this summer. I'm feeling kind of numb knowing that we've got a lot to do, but I don't have any faith in the club's ability to actually fix it.

We've had threads this season on all the problem areas and it's pretty much every position bar GK.

Really feels like inactivity or the wrong signings over a 12 month period could potentially have 5 year consequences

My minimum for this summer was 2 CMS, a CB/RB. An extra if we were lucky maybe someone else versatile for across the front 3. Based on what klopps given the impression of, as well as our financial....reluctance to spend; I can't see the minimum being bought

Maybe… just maybe… the ability to statically analyse and identify the best players out there has fuck all to do with negotiating a deal and getting it over the line.

They’re two different skill sets - feels like that might be part of our problem.

Agree with all of that. But Doak's development shouldn't be stifled. He should be given the first crack of the whip behind Salah. I'd be OK with not strengthening that area at all this summer.

Part of me is hoping we let the next gen play the Europa games. Like likes of Clark, Doak, Cannonier etc. It'll be make or break seasons for them.

Doak is 17 years old. Next season is nowhere close to being make or break for him.

So we're great at identifying and wooing stunners, but can't actually get it up is the jist

Same for Clark.

Not sure about Cannonier. I know he's been scoring loads but it's never really been hinted that things he's good enough for the seniors. I think a loan might be more likely

Why worry about Stevie G leaving when we have a ready made replacement in John Welsh? Why isn't Rafa or Houllier giving more chances to Adam Hammil?. In general, we have a long history of overrating our youth prospects. I guess every club's fans do that. It is a mega jump from being an impressive top of the line youth prospect to the senior team. A jump which almost everyone doesn't make it.

I have been impressed with what I have seen of Doak from highlights. But he still has a long way to go before being considered as a replacement for one of our greatest ever signings.

You generally know by 18 if a player has what it takes to make it through the youth system.

Europa League is a great place to do it.

Have to disagree on that. Players make breakthroughs at different ages and different rates. At 18, Harry Kane was in the middle of yet another unimpressive loan spell. Give Doak the time and space to make it here. Playing Doak in senior games when he is not ready will only harm his development. He first needs to become a regular n the bench and reach the level in training when he is demanding minutes at the end of games. Maybe he can reach that level next season. It may very well be that he might have to go on loan and play first team football at a less demanding level to hone his craft. But anointing him as the replacement for one of the greatest attackers PL has ever seen is doing him no favors.

Connor Bradley has 5 goals and 5 Assists for Bolton, for a rightback in any league that's impressive especially when he is 19. I guess if they bring in Timbers he will be used as an inverted CB like Stones

Almost.

We’re good at identifying stunners, rubbish at actually getting into their pants and far too easily satisfied by staying at home and playing with ourselves.

He’s played more as a wingback.

Hoping he wont turn out to be another Neco Williams.

Even if he did, it would be £20m in the bank
Not right now it wouldn’t, needs another full seasons loan. Maybe half a season at 2 different championship clubs. Start off at a Cardiff then if its going well, jump to a Norwich or Sunderland.

I'll remind you what Djed Spence went for. This kid has better stats than Spence. Besides, I want him to have his chance and send the other kid Ramsey out on loan. If he is good enough, the club has saved millions. If Jurrian Timber does come in, it will be as a inverted full-back

I hope Klopp has figured out he needs a RB this summer...
There is huge difference between putting a defensive minded player like Zinchenko or Stones in this role as opposed to Trent who can't stay switched on defensively to save his life.

We better not end this summer with a system that requires specialist players in certain positions whose skills can't be deputised without spending a fortune
