Summer rebuild 2023

When we won the league in 2020 the midfield was a rotating mix of Henderson, Keita, Ox, Fab, Gini and Milner.

Point being we didn't need any standout brilliant talents, we needed people who worked their arses off, and we could defo get three of them for 120 million.

True. But we had Salah, Mane, Firmino upfront who all took responsibility and drove the team forward. They all took turns in being the main singer.

Our current attack appears to be full of folks who perform when the winds are blowing favorably. They are all good players but I feel they all are excellent support casts and not the main singers. Except Nunez who atleast tries to be the main man.

We also had the best version of Virgil behind them taking care of business. He's still a fine player but he's not been that Virgil since Pr!ckford committed GBH on him. With defence and attack in that kind of shape we could afford a workmanlike midfield. I honestly don't think we can now.

Yep we can but they had far more than just work rate & would be harder to come by than you think......their bodies were almost built like machines (I don't count Ox or Naby as much as the other 3 were rarely injured but physically your body has to cope), they all complimented each other and that stemmed from years of playing with each other & of course you need to be either good on the ball (Hendo/Fab) or with the ball (Naby/Gini).

I get what you're saying, but that's why I said earlier that I'd rather spend big on a great young CB. I think our best chance of getting good again is to try to follow the same playbook

Agreed, but generally, we need to build a spine again. I wouldn't be adverse to us buying a big, young centre half, a quality central midfielder and a goalscorer. It's whether we can afford them. But I agree, we need to follow our own blueprint.

I like Elliott and think he can become a fine player, but he needs quality alongside him at the moment to flourish. Same with Bajcetic. The issue is they are both slight. I think both are getting stronger and will get better and more dominant over the next couple of seasons, but they need a natural athlete in there with them. Like Gini was. Someone who's a fucking nightmare to get off the ball. Bellingham could be that, but I fear it's pie in the sky stuff thinking about him. And we couldn't get away with just a Gini type now, we need someone who can do it all.

Yes, which is why Klopp's dead set on getting Jude, and why I agree with him. If there's a crumb of comfort in how this season's gone so far, it's that Klopp can now plant the ball squarely in the owners' court and tell them "This is what we need to make happen if you want LFC to get back on its board and ride the wave again."

In the primary school where I'm a reading volunteer there are a number of Romanian kids. Looking up useful expressions in Romanian one day, I came across the interesting information that in Romanian the word "facol" means "flashlight". Just sayin'.

Partly agree with this, but I see the main problem here since losing Mane and injuries to Bobby is that we (The Team) look to play the ball to often to Salah, and if he then passes it that ok. Where as before we would look to play that ball would go to any of the from there, Mane Bobby or Mo. And by consently look to pick out Mo it make it easier for the denfenders to defend ans slows down our attack

Which comes down a technically limited midfield, unable to progress the ball consistently or simply look after the ball until an opening comes up.

So all we need to do is find physically imposing midfielders, who never get injured, never suffer fatigue, are great at tackling, are technically amazing - enough to retain possession against the best pressing teams in the world, are fast and have the sort of elite level passing that can open up packed defences that fit deep?

Oh… and cheap.

I mean, they might be playing in the current Wolves midfield….

Funny thing is we knew about one of them before he went there but decided with some justification, I guess, that motley crew of
Keita, Oxlade Chamberlain, Henderson, Fabinho, Alcantara with a few sprogs to spell them here and there were enough.

Hopefully this season learned us.

It means all 3 or you are in Binomial.

I’ll let your imagination do the rest.
Okay... But can't we just be called the "Rebel Wilson Fan Club Before She Gave Up The Pies"?
What do you think of Manuel Ugarte, mentioned him before back in November? I believe Pep L will push for him.

[article]Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount's new agent has major connections to Liverpool.

Mount is being linked with the Reds as new contract talks with Chelsea stall.

The Daily Mail says, having been represented by his father, Tony Mount, for the past 18 months, Mount has now appointed Neil Fewings from ROOF as his new agent.

Fewings should be a familiar name to Reds fans, and his appointment as Mount's agent could have handed Liverpool an advantage in any potential pursuit for the midfielder in the summer.

Previously part of the Wasserman agency, Fewings joined ROOF last month. In doing so, he took a number of high-profile players with him, including Jordan Henderson, Virgil van Dijk, and Harvey Elliott.

ROOF already represents the likes of Naby Keita and former Liverpool star Sadio Mane. Meanwhile, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, Marko Grujic, Rhian Brewster, and Taiwo Awoniyi are other familiar names on their current roster of players.[/article]

You can call yourself whatever you want.

Never heard of Ugarte - but given that you’ve mentioned pretty much every midfielder that is currently playing football, there’s no surprise.

What leads you to think PepL wants to sign him- Ugarte isn’t Dutch.

Is Ugarte good at intensity?

Ugarte is a Uruguayan MF playing for Sporting Lisbon. Pep L looks at players in the Portuguese league first. Sporting have bought a 19 year old Argentinian in the winter window to play DM, so most likely he will replace Ugarte.

Supposedly tracking Gabri Veiga
@Modo What's your thoughts?

Never heard of him, but based on that video you might just be on to something. For me what separates a decent midfielder from a world class midfielder is awareness and using it to turn with the ball in midfield. That's been my biggest gripe with Hendo, constantly playing it safe.
But this kid seems fearless. No wonder Real are keeping an eye on him.
