Suarez > Torres (at his peak)

EH?
What the 3-1 win at home? Or the fact he scored there last year?

And its a bit unfair saying Suarez doesnt do it against the big teams as we were a big team when Torres was here.

We're still a big team. Torres was unstoppable. The majority of his goals were just get the fuck out of my way and bang. No defence could cope with him.

Most of the time Suarez has to get rude and beat several players. He can do that to Norwich at will, because their defenders are thick and poorly trained. It doesn't work so much against the best teams.

You mean like when he tore United's a new one?

No, I mean like other games.

Heh, as Farky said, it's usually when we as a team get found out. Like at OT last week, the rest of the team couldn't get near Suarez enough to support him. It's more a reflection on them than Luis. Torres had the benefit of a peak Gerrard behind him, Suarez has had no one for a while, you can see the difference already with Sturridge on there with him and Gerrard starting to get some form.

If we play with two strikers against better teams, we'll be the ones getting torn a new one most of the time.

As opposed to getting torn a new one with one striker? I'd take my chances. It's hardly any different to the system we've been playing anyway, just with significantly more goal threat, as shown by the contrast between the first and second half performances at OT.

In any case, that role would mean we're comparing Suarez to a peak Gerrard. Which will end the thread.

The reason there isn't hardly any difference is because enrique is injured, and glen johnson is able to play as a left winger whilst suarez does what he likes. When the other team have a right winger like hazard, silva, walcott, etc. then your chances are not looking good. And when enrique comes back, we'll have a problem which will be solved by dropping sturridge.

Yeah ok. The reason we'll get torn a new one isn't because we'll be playing Sturridge and Suarez, it'll be because our defensive system is too open, as you eluded to with Johnson.

No it wouldn't.
As seen against Norwich, the role Suarez will play with Sturridge is completely different to that of Gerrard behind Torres and Owen.
Suarez did go deeper to get a hold of the ball, but then he was also often the furthest player forward when Sturridge would compensate to drop deeper.
Apart from the odd occasion when Gerrard would do a one-two or try to run behind the defence to catch them off guard, we never saw him playing the role of Suarez the other day (same role he played in Ajax with Huntelar, as well as the role he plays for Uruguay with Forlan).

No we are not(sadly) we are looking at hopefully finishing 6th.

We may get back to being a big team but currently we are not even close.

Suarez enjoys less success against better teams largely because we aren't as competitive with them as we were.
+1.

When we had a better team we stretched them all over allowing Torres space to do what he did best.

Suarez (at least before Sturridge arrived) was allowed that space. Just look at his goal against Norwich. He's never have been able to ghost in from the left like that if the 2 CB's hadn't been drawn to Stugs run before the dummy.

I think we'll see Sauarez get better and better now with him up top.

Dreamy, it's a good thread idea. You don't though need to respond to every single fucking post in order to preserve it's lifespan.

Relax lad.

Ha ha I thought about that after about 10 replies but I only get to look at it when everyone is asleep in the UK.

Annoying.

I loved Torres but I'd still pick Suarez.

I just really wish we could have seen them together ... that would have been a phenomenal, and possibly even title winning, combination.

He had a purple patch in the season we came 2nd where he just seemed to be bossing every defence we played in the big games Utd Madrid Chelsea. He was unstoppable at that point, that goal against Blackburn was fucking insane. How many strikers would even attempt that shot, let alone have the technique to pull it off

Google Taison's goal this season, does it make him better than Torres?

torres was phenomenal - quickest to 50 goals and so on. however, for me suarez just edges now, indeed he could be significantly better if he continues. he has the goal touch, but also the sheer magic of trickey and skill, incredible.

Watching that, against all Torres' goals....after I dabbed the gelatinous splurges away I said SUAREZ is better.

11 Suarez' vs 11 Torres'

The team of Suarez would win all fucking day long.
Its not even close. Suarez is MUCH better than Torres.
