Daniel Sturridge settled and ready for ‘something special’ at Liverpool
• Striker content despite recent absence from Liverpool’s starting XI
• ’I can be upset if I am not playing, but you just have to take it on the chin’

‘There has never been any friction between us, not at all,’ says Daniel Sturridge of his relationship with his manager at Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp.

Daniel Sturridge has said there are no problems between himself and Jürgen Klopp and that he is content at Liverpool with the club on the brink of “something special”.
The Liverpool striker was handed his first start in four Europa League ties against Villarreal on Thursday and responded with a fine display as Klopp’s team secured a meeting with Sevilla at the final in Basel on 18 May. Sturridge’s omission from the starting lineup against Borussia Dortmund, the first leg of the semi-final at Villarreal and in the Merseyside derby defeat of Everton raised questions over his suitability to the Liverpool manager’s methods. It has also marked a change in the 26-year-old’s status as the leading striker at Anfield following a prolonged period on the sidelines with injury.
Sturridge, however, is adamant he has no issues with Klopp or a desire to leave Liverpool in the summer. The England international admits being upset when left out of the team but insists that reaction is natural, as his manager has also stated.
“Of course I am happy here,” he said. “I’m happy. I have never expressed not being happy here. I think it is everyone playing devil’s advocate. They see that I have been left out sometimes and think: ‘Maybe that means he is unhappy,’ but the manager has got a job to do. He has got to pick the team that he feels is best on the day. And I have got a job to do, which is to perform when I am playing.
“There has never been any friction between us, not at all. There is never any on my part and there is never any on the manager’s part either, I don’t think. It is his job to pick the team. I can never be upset. This is a team game and if he chooses to pick someone else, I have to take it on the chin. You know what? I can say it: I can be upset if I am not playing. But that is natural for any player to be upset. You just have to take it on the chin. And when you do come on, you have to be in the right frame of mind.”
Sturridge’s 13th goal in 23 appearances this season gave Liverpool the aggregate lead against Villarreal and, as his celebrations testified, he considered the finish from Roberto Firmino’s pass the most important strike of his Anfield career.
“I think it was because it was such a big game for us,” he explained. “With the first chance I had I was like: ‘How did that not go in?’ So I felt as if I had to make up for the first chance and I am grateful to God that I was able to do that. It’s the biggest goal I’ve scored for Liverpool but hopefully there will be a lot more bigger games and a lot more bigger goals to come in the future for the club.”

Klopp said on Friday that Sturridge would be in peak condition for the European Championship if selected by England this summer, having been given a specialised training programme before his return from injury in February.
The striker concurred: “There is no doubt about it. It’s a few months since I have been back and I haven’t had a day off. I’m not fronting this. I actually haven’t had a day off. When the other boys have had days off, I have been in. It has just been extra stuff, whether I have been training or doing recovery work, I have been doing it. I am not trying to create a sob story. At the end of the day, we get paid to do this and this is my dream. I can’t complain.”
Sturridge believes Liverpool will use the painful experience of February’s Capital One Cup final loss to Manchester City, plus other near misses over the past few seasons, to their advantage when they meet Sevilla, the Europa League holders.
“We get the impression as players that it is the start of something special but we will take each game as it comes,” he said. “We didn’t win the last final we played in, so we have to learn from that. I think Villarreal showed we have learned. We took things from the Capital One Cup in to Villarreal. We couldn’t have any regrets. We had to put everything in to it to try and get the results.”
He added: “It took me a while to get over not winning the Premier League here. That is the closest I have been since leaving Chelsea to winning something big. The Capital One Cup was so difficult to take. I was in tears after the game, not just because we lost but because it was a moment for us. We wanted to move to the next level in that game but we were unfortunate. But we have learned from it and we have got another final. Sevilla have won it twice before. It’s not new for them but we have won it before as a club and we want to give the fans something to sing about.

I'm certain there's been word said behind closed doors but that remains a fairly honest and decent interview by Sturridge.

All he has to do to convince Klopp is to increase his work rate and pressing and he certainly did that against Villarreal. Hopefully it's a sign if things to come.

Random Sturridge anecdote: My girlfriends boss was out for his anniversary on Wednesday at a Italian restaurant. His wifes part Italian and was basically chatting away to the Italian speaking staff at the bar leaving him alone, not knowing what they're chatting away about. Anyway, Sturridge pops up next to him and says "it's not on that" with a big smile on his face and the guy tells him it's his anniversary and I'm getting shunned.

Later when he asked for the bill the restaurant told him Sturridge had already settled it.

Everything has to have a hidden meaning with you guys, I think that's a refreshingly honest interview, much better than the canned shit you're usually served. I'm glad Sturridge is upset when he's left out, if a player isn't angry at missing big games you have to question how committed he is. The problems only arise when players start disrupting the team or manager when they're left out, and besides a few sulky faces on the pitch, there's nothing to suggest Sturridge has been anything but professional about this. I love the guy, I hope he stays and leads us to glory over the next 5 years.

If there was a team chasing Sturridge we'd know about it.
Don't see any viable options in England.

There is zero doubt that he is in anyones mind.

Anyone sane that is. See dreamy wanting to sell him for proof.

Yes, by a long way, which is why I'm surprised by the easy ride Klopp has had of not selecting him in a few games when he's clearly fit and also the lack of love he gets generally from the fans. I guess he's not very 'Liverpool' in his demeanor, but his record stands up to the very best strikers we have ever had and he's vital to our future.

At his very best, he's good enough to win us the league.

When's he's injured after the euros again for 3 months we'll how good an idea it was to keep him.
I've never said he wasn't top class, he's just not reliable at all

Arsenal plotting £30m Daniel Sturridge bid as Arsene Wenger finally seeks top-class striker

Sturridge was excellent against Villarreal on Thursday but there are still doubts over whether he is first-choice under Jurgen Klopp

Arsenal will make a £30million move for Daniel Sturridge when the summer transfer window opens.
Arsene Wenger is finally aware of the need for a top-class striker at the Emirates and has long been an admirer of Sturridge.
The 26-year-old scored in Liverpool’s 3-0 second leg win over Villarreal , having been an unused substitute for the first game in Spain.
And Jurgen Klopp described his performance in helping Liverpool to the final of the Europa League as ‘outstanding’ and labelled him ‘an unbelievable player’.
However, he has not always seemed as wildly enthusiastic, also leaving the England striker - who will be named in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad on Thursday - on the bench for both legs of the quarter-final win against Borussia Dortmund.

Sturridge is fully recovered from his most recent injury problems and, unsurprisingly, he was also in a positive mood in the wake of the triumph over Villarreal, insisting there was no friction between him and Klopp and that he was happy at Anfield.
But recently he declared: “I am someone who wants to play every minute of every match so maybe when I’m not starting, it’s hard to take.”
Wenger seems uncertain who is best to lead his attacking line, alternating between Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud in recent weeks.
And Arsenal’s relatively meagre goals tally - Spurs, Leicester and Manchester City have outscored them this season - tells Wenger he needs to add firepower to his squad.

While he signed an new five-year deal back in 2014, Sturridge has never suggested he wants to stay at Anfield for the rest of his career.
If Liverpool send out even the merest hint that they are prepared to sell, Arsenal would face competition for Sturridge’s signature - but it might not be too stiff.
A return to Chelsea or Manchester City, for example, would be out of the question.
A fee for Sturridge would be tricky to negotiate. Liverpool would rate him way above the £30million level but bidders would point to his injury issues as a reason for a reduced mark.

30 million and one.pound.

30 million for a 26 yr old English forward with a proven Pl record with a better than 1 goal in 2 records would be stupid from us. Well aware of his injury record but despite his faults, we have to keep him. We have other areas to reinforce next season he has 3yrs on his contract to go. Reevaluate next season, value will not go down more than 20-30 % next season even if he doesn't score a single goal next season. Going rate for an average 28yr old striker in pl is at least 10 million. Logically we don't need to rush into sell our best striker to our rival right now.

30 million is a pisstake. I know klopp will want to see if his theory about sturridge being a perma crock is right because he has always been brought back to early before he gives up on him, cos if he's right then he's worth at least double that amount.

few weeks ago there were posts from people saying we should accept £25m for him. I'd sell for £45m though and we get an adequate replacement
