Now that I do agree with. For all Souness' shortcomings when he was manager, he at least had the cojones (and the genuine love for the club) to hold his hand up and walk when it became clear that things hadn't worked out.

Me thinks this thread will stick around for a while.

McClaren was not good enough to manage England but you can't blame him for taking the job really. It certainly isn't an easy one.

Good for him that he's done well in Holland and I imagine there will be clubs interested. They won't be massive clubs though as ultimately he is better than some say but still far from great.

I suspect most could name about ten premiership managers better than him

Yeah though managers, like players, improve.

The experience in Holland will have done him good.

Might have done. But is the standard of the dutch league that high really?
[/quote]

Standard may not be as high as your La Liga, Serie A, EPL etc... but that's because the rich cashed up clubs from those leagues keep signing the best talent from the Eredivisie every season.

It's a good league to watch ... suprised no clubs from the bigger leagues have gone afters players like Pantelic and Suarez. Class acts.

I wasn't slagging it off. my point was merely that he might be as good as he ever was but is excelling in a weaker league.

Bit like if a manager doesn't do the business in the PL but then manages with some success in the Championship.
