Sports 'stars' will never be "admired" by you if they are younger than you.

Point raised by an American Football Journalist.

I seem to agree, particularly in football. I love Fowler, Molby, Hamann, Barnes, Beardsley and some others. But I think an awful lot of recent players are twats.

Had me thinking of Pacheco and Hoolahan at Norwich.

makes sense i guess, but it probably has a lot to do with the fact that as a kid you dream of being a player and you idolise the players who play for your team, when you grow up that dream dies and i suppose you become a bit more resentful on a certain level. Also the fact that most modern footballers are so far removed from reality by the age of 16 that they are completely unrelatable to the average person

If you were in the pub and you heard a guy telling the story of how the Spanish police had been on to him about his porche which he left at the airport in Zaragosa six months ago and then completely forgot that he owned you would think "wanker" regardless of his profession, that fact that football is littered with this sort of prick is making it increasinly difficult to follow.

Every generation gets the heroes is deserves and I can think of no finer an ambassador for todays youth culture than Cristiano Ronaldo, hes the sporting equivalent of RnB music

Yup. Now I always think of what a failure in life I am since I don't have millions in the bank, diamonds in my ears, bitches on my dick. Fuck you Christiano Ronaldo.

I admire a lot of the young golfers. Not footballers as the culture encourages them to be dicks.

Young & extremely rich golfers still have their feet on the ground as they have to stick to golf etiquette and can still get their asses handed to them by experience.

Different sports tho, but I guess the original poster isn't only talking about football?

Most of them are thick as pig shit to boot.

I'd imagine most footballers always were?
