So... Wigan

I genuinely cant see how we could justify changes.
The only one may be Meireles who played Thursday and Sunday and worked like fuck, so maybe Johnson in if fit?

You just know that Roy will make changes. Kuyt will probably get rested and replaced by Johnson.

Let's see what happens. Wigan will be a stern test for us. They usually are!

same team.
4-5-1
gerrard behind torres.
meireles and lucas in CM.
kuyt at right midfield.

So, not the same team then?

Wigan are an annoyingly unpredictable side. Capable at times of beating a good team one week only to get thrashed by a shit one the next. We'll no doubt make one or two changes, but we should really be looking to get three points.

same players different formation.

I'd stick with the same elven, but change it to 4-2-3-1 instead. Getting Meireles in the middle with Lucas and Kuyt out wide right. Gerrard behind Torres.

I'd play with the exact same team and formation. How will changing it help? we played our best match this season yesterday with a formation that has been drilled into then all week.

Kuyt off torres as gerrard does more damage from deep and works well with lucas. Mereiles will be fine, he's our portugese man of war and will continue to improve.

The formation will not matter 451 or 442 if we play at the correct tempo and with the right spirit.

We shoudl keep the same eleven though providing all are fit.

The old school rule is you dont change a winning side and Roy is pretty old school. Id go same XI same formation.

Johnson and Cole to come on down the flanks in the 2nd half if they are fit.

Perhaps the Greek could come in handy if he's fit and the same goes for Johnson although I wouldn't be downhearted at all if he picked the samme XI.

I want to see the same XI. Its a shame to keep Meireles on the flank but Lucas is playing like a beast at the moment

We just beat Chelsea against the odds.

We'll lose this, probably in a humiliating fashion, just because

I fear that we´ll fall back into the ugly, boring form again. I´d be happy if we win 1-0.

I'd love to see the same team and formation. Why the hell would we go 451 against Wigan after daring to play with two strikers against Chelsea? I really don't think the DW Stadium is THAT intimidating, is it?

The obvious question mark, though, will be Kuyt's fitness. He's just coming back from injury and he busted his balls in that match. Then again, he is bionic.

If we show the same intensity, we'll win convincingly.

I know it's good to 'keep with a winning team', but a mere 4 days after that grueling non-stop game i'd be tempted to mix things up a bit.. Johnson and Jova ought to get starts IMO.. Good to keep everyone 'fresh'

EDIT: 3 days not 4!

I really don't think Meireles should continue on the right. He was good there against Chelsea, but they play 4-3-3 and therefor he was more involved. When they changed it in the second half he struggled.

It didn't work against Blackpool or Everton and it isn't something we should keep doing.
He's best in the middle. Get him in there. We played alright against Bolton, let's go with that formation.

Gerrard of Torres would be the best bet on wednesday.

The 4-2-3-1 gives Lucas and Raul their preferred positions, along with Kuyt/Stevie/Cole positions they're very comfortable in aswell (assuming all players are fit)

I kind of agree with you on Meireles but if we move him in the middle that means we have to put Kuyt out wide. He was so brilliant in the forward role against Chelski I'd love to see if it works against lesser opponents as well.

JimmyK: You have a point there. I'd maybe give Carra a rest if Soto is fit and also swap Maxi for Jova.

You're saying that like he changes it needlessly each week, he's only really changed it when we've been shite or through injury. Bar maybe one change I doubt it'll be much different. At least we're now only changing the odd player here and there, rather than a handful in each match.

I'd get lynched for saying this, but I think Steven Gerrard should be rested. He has played an awful lot of football for club and country at high intensity.

We should be able to pull through with out gerrard against wigan....

[/quote]He's used to playing 2 games a week. This season he's playing once a week and hasnt been taken on any overseas trips. He doesnt need any more resting.

If Cole was fit i'd perhaps contemplate it with JC going behind Fernando. However, he's not fit and I don't think anyone else could fill the role to a sufficient standard, let alone anything near Stevie's standard.

cole, like johnson shouldn't walk back into the team. who is going to get dropped in favor of them?

gerrard and torres shouldn't be rested for any league game. if they are fit to play they should play. rest them in uefa and the fac if ytou have to.

I quite agree. However 90minutes against Chelsea to then play a tricky away game 3 days later is bound to take its toll against 2 players hardly renowned for their robustness..

Spider has not watched the match yesterday obviously...
Torres had some support up front and Stevie in the middle.
Thats why we won
