Just took a look at Martinez's transfer record in his 4 seasons at Wigan, and boy, Whelan has really supported him with poop. Over that period, they've made a 12.5 million profit in transfer fees. In other words, he'll be in familiar territory if he goes to Everton.
On the other hand, Stoke has spent on average about 15m more than they've raised through sales each of the last 4 seasons, play exceptionally crap football, and except for one season in these last four, are barely any more comfortable than Wigan, beating the Latics by 2, 4 and now 6 points in the table.
So it's all now set up for this grand scheme: Pulis gets sacked at Stoke and goes to Everton, and Martinez goes to Stoke to get a chance at spending some money and transforming them from the dross that they are.
Everyone wins - Martinez gets to taste some of the financial support he has not had, Stoke fans rediscover their love for football, Pulis goes to a club with players suiting his style, Everton doesn't need to pay compensation to get their man, and we have a good time laughing at Everton when Pulis leads them to relegation-fighting mediocrity with his ancient football.
