We definitely need a striker and a left back. I'd go for Edin Dzeko and Philipp Lahm.

Moreover should we be looking for one or two decent wingers. Here I'd go for Darijo Srna for example. He can play on the right wing and would be a decent backup at the RB slot at the same time. He's under contract at Shakhtar until 2011 so maybe we could get him relatively cheap.

For the left wing spot we should be looking to sign Joe Cole on a Bosman. Or maybe a cheeky bid for Martin Petrov?

cole - bosman
silva
bent
lahm
martinez

sell reira, aqua and yossi to make up the difference and pray we get no injuries

bent will get shit loads of games because torres will almost certainly get injuried. cole and silva can fight it out for the left midfield

Given the wages Cole and Silva will command I doubt we'd be able to get both, let alone only play one of them!

cole would have no fee so you are saving that, silva would be expensive though.

I'd rather have Joe Cole than David Silva. I think Silva is too lightweight for the Premier League.

60m?

In-Turan - 15m
Hangaland - 10m
Ozil - 12m
Podolski - 18m
Belhadj - 5m

Dunno if that's realistic prices or not, although I'd say it's fairly reasonable.
If I need more then Riera, Babel, Yossi, Ngog and Degen can fuck off.

To be fair almost all the names being mentioned give me wood compared to our shite.
That Jovetic was awesome, Milner, Cole etc

Hmmm, Podolski. I thought he would be great for us a few years back. But in the last two years the guy seems to have lost the plot. Constant moaning, criticizing team mates in the public and scoring two goals this season isn't the best of references. If it wasn't for Löw who keeps calling him up for Germany (which less and less people in Germany understand) he would have disappeared totally.

Bin off Lucas, Aquilani, Babel,Riera,Casper, Insua, Eggnog, and maybe even my Dirky Dirk

And then buy 4 or 5 top, top quality players for the first team

LB, CM, AM, striker

There

Dunno who though. Milner, Young, Bent et al would be stupidly overpriced and difficult to buy

Well, help me out here

Aguero?
Villa?
Chiellini?

Fuck knows, this is all pie in the sky anyway

*gloom*

Köln have paid 10M Euros for Podolski last summer and he has since scored 2 goals in more than 2000 minutes of playing time. I wouldn't want him for 8M, let alone 18.

Putting aside the fact that we have very little chance of signing one of Villa's better players, is Miner actually that good?

I've seen virtually nothing of Villa this season, so all this talk of Milner for 20M sounds fucking absurd to me.

I've seen a few of their games and he has been quite magnificent at times

Endless running, decent passing, not a bad shot, looks every inch a top, top class midfielder
Fair. I didn't know he'd gone shit.
Ideally I'd love to get Higauin but I don't think Madrid will sell.
Joey Cole is free.
Fuck it like Bren says sell all the dead wood and just buy the best 3 or 4 players that 60-70m can buy. Then add em to the nucleus of Reina, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson, Carragher, Mascherano, Aquilani, Gerrard, Torres and Kuyt.

Reina
Agger
Kjaer
Carragher
Johnson
Aquilani
Mascherano
Gerrard
Villa
Torres

He's not a winger though, as I said in that thread two years ago. We need someone fast and ace for the LW/RW spot, someone solid for the LB spot, and a back-up striker/possible no10, so for £60m I'd go for:

Taiwo £10m
Lennon £20m
J. Cole free
Jovanovic free
Benzema £25m

There you go, five million quid in change, plus whatever we got for Riera and Babel. Say another £20m, so we could probably get Javi Martinez or James McCarthy to replace either Lucas or Aquilani in CM. And that'd give us another £5-15m.

Jesus, I should be manager! Every time I spend money, I end up making more...

Anyway, here's the first XI:

Reina

Magic - Carra - Agger - Taiwo

Lennon - Mascher - Gerrard - J. Cole

Benzema - Torres

subs: goalie; Skrtel; Kelly; McCarthy; Yossi; Jovanovic; Kuyt.

With that extra money, I'd also buy a replacement LW. Maybe Trémoulinas from Bordeaux, who plays LB for them, but is much better going forward than defending. He could play LB against the weaker teams, and LW against the stronger teams if/when Cole is injured/tired.

Bunnyman's team is fucking aces.
McCarthy is going to be one of the top CM's in England in a few years.
And to think we almost got him for 1m a year ago.

Higuain, Di Maria and LB.

Wowzers. Not a hope of getting Higuain or Di Maria unless we are willing to spend nearly all our hypothetical 60mil on them. Can't seem Madrid selling The Hig though.

Not sure, but I'd take him in a NY minute. What's your problem with him?
I worry about his ability to settle in this league, am not convinced about his partnership with Torres, think he's a bit lightweight, and think his transfer fee is likely to be astronomical.

I wouldn't part with 30 M+ GBP for him and would be concerned about > 20 M.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's an excellent player and is well suited for the league he is in. I'm well aware I could be horrifically wrong and he might take to England like Torres did but I'm a bit sceptical.

(Obv, if the choices were N'Gog or Villa, I would choose the latter. Should go without saying.)
Understood, and there's always a risk involved in any transfer, but I wouldn't really share those concerns. I think his game would be well suited to the Prem (we were also linked with him at the time we signed Torres, and I for one thought Villa would be better suited here), plus his partnership with Torres for Spain is mustard, so we know they can play together well.

The price would need hard negotiation though. £30 mill.would certainly be out of the question.
I haven't been ultra-convinced of Torres+Villa for Spain, despite the European championship. I was always wary of Villa although considering the "quality" I'm expecting we'll sign, I'd still be excited to see him come.

I'd cream if we signed Jovetic.

Cream. my. panties.

And I'd like Silva too. And Milner is a good option for a few reasons (English, he's good, he'd want to play for us over Villa..)

But I just can't see Benitez putting Gerrard back in CM on a permanent basis, although it's clearly the easiest and most sensible solution to replacing Alonso.

Torres, Jovetic, Silva, Milner and Gerrard attacking together is a pretty mouthwatering proposition

Every time I see him I think he is a less refined Frank Lampard.

A left-back for under 10M.

And the rest on midfielders and forward options. I don't give a fuck if they're wingers, playmakers, in-the-hole types. So long as they're quality.

I'd give up the Internet for Tevez. Never gonna get him obv, but he's the sort I want.
