So how is this all gonna play out?

This isn't a what do you want, should we get Reus and Messi, appoint Guardiola with Rafa his assistant kinda thread, so fuck off with that shit first off

We're 10th. Very mid-table. 16 games in, only 3 to halfway and we're 10th. So yeah, how is this gonna play out? Be realistic. Will we get anywhere near top 4?

Will Sturridge, Flanagan and Suso come back to score shitloads and get big erections?

Will Rodgers sell Borini and will FSG give him any money or will they sack him before January?

Will we do anything in the Europa League? Will we get merked by a half-decent team in the League Cup next round?

Will Colin Pascoe find a pair of trousers or his P45 first?

If Modo or RedNinja mention Rafa once in this thread, I'm DDOSing the fucking forum

So yeah I reckon we'll sell Borini, get a striker in who is a lot more mobile than Lambert and can actually score goals. I don't know who this guy is, but the majority of links are to young strikers who are like 19. Hopefully we don't do that again, and get in someone that can score shitloads but I don't think we actually will

We'll probably sign a goalkeeper though. I can't see us selling anyone else

Firstly, we should definitely sign Reus.

How's it going to pan out? Well we'll lose to Arsenal and Brendan will get the boot, we won't do much in January, maybe sign a 8-10million striker or Origi, nothing big, nothing out. We'll improve under our caretaker / new manager, as will players like Lovren, but nothing drastic (think Tim Sherwood at Spurs). We'll end up coming fifth in the league, thinking we've got a late charge for fourth, but never really being in the hunt. As for the Europa, we'll make either the quarter or semi finals, being knocked out by a Portuguese or Spanish team.

Depressing.

FSG, the once loquacious custodians of the Liverpool Family, have gone terribly quiet. I'd say there are three likely options:

1. They tell Rodgers he can bring in one proven striker, preferably on loan, and a keeper, again preferably on loan,
and then they judge him at the end of the season;
2. They sack Rodgers by Christmas, try to appoint a more experienced manager and give him enough to bring in a top striker;
3. They sack Rodgers by Christmas, bring in an interim manager for the rest of the season who'll have no money at all and must simply try to stop the slide.

I'd say that's the order at the moment, but a bad loss against Bournemouth and you might as well reverse it.

borini's value will be less than half what we were offered in the summer.

We will get nowhere near the top 4 and i'd give up on that at this point.

We should have a go at the europa but it's highly unlikely we can win it (though much better chance than getting top 4)

i don't think anyone knows what we're going to do in january -- my guess is not an awful lot. another problem is we now need top players who haven't played in europe this season cos we won't get top 4 even if we sign messi.

rodgers will get sacked unless he goes on to win the europa as well.

Rodgers will get til the end of the season, Sturridge will return in Jan and remind us what a functioning striker looks like, we will win the league Cup finish 6th in the premiership and get to the quarters or semi final of the Europa. Rodgers will live to get another season I think

I 'think' Rodgers will get to the end of the season. Although if we were to lose in the next 2 games I could defo see them pulling the plug as the season is lost anyway so they've nothing to lose apart from his payoff.
I can't see this problem ever resolving itself whilst Rodgers is in charge. He's a good guy and a good manager, and wants to play attacking football, but the system he wants to deploy doesn't include defending and we'll be forever found out/countered because of this.
If Rodgers could sort a defence out, get a coach in that could sort it out, or tweak the system so it included defending, we'd probably be laughing, but it's never gonna happen.

They're ominously quiet at the mo, I suspect the guillotine is being sharpened

The key factor here of course, for me anyway, is the potential replacement. Unless FSG are satisfied they would be a definite improvement I reckon they would wait until the summer. That would probably mean not signing a striker though

Are we still under investigation for a FFP breech? If so (and even if we aren't), we probably will have to sell to buy.

In that case, we will likely get £6-7 million for Borini and maybe £1 million for Suso (we might try to sell him on the cheap before he leaves for free at the end of the season). I can't see us selling anyone else unless a decent bid comes in for Sakho (but Lovern is playing so badly I doubt the manager would risk it), or Enrique (someone might give us £3-4 million?).

We might put that money towards a new keeper, Valdes / Cech / anyone. I would like to think we wouldn't be stupid enough to drop Ming and single him out for criticism in the press without having a plan in place.

We have to buy a new striker but the money situation means we will have to gamble on an unknown quantity, try to sign someone with a expiring contract, or a find a decent loan signing from somewhere.

I'm not sure Brendan will survive till the January transfer window.

I think we will be completing for 8th unless Studge comes back and stays injury free, or we sign a goalscorer.

What I would do:

Sack the transfer committee.

Leave Rodgers in charge of the team.

Work to find a very strong coaching team who will work alongside Rodgers and vice versa. If Rodgers objects he can walk at the end of the season.

No major changes in January.

The chance we had to bring in top players last summer has now disappeared.... we blew the money on wank and it shows.

We shouldve bought Shaqiri, we shouldve bought Bony or Remy aswell.... coupled with that we shouldve bought a decent CM and a decent CB

Its gonna pan out exactly as it has been panning out.... Mid table wankdom

Realistically its an Awful Fucking Atrocity

Is what it is..

Continuing on Ryan's Evans analogy, I'd hire Laurent Blanc as joint team manager.

What is that response based upon? The guy shits goals wherever he has played pretty much.... he actually has a deft touch in front of goal too instead of trying to hit it as hard as he can like Mario.

Have you seen his career stats?

i've seen him play a few times and he looks pretty static and is not the kind of player who'd do well here.

You are going to actively seek out a constructive dialogue with our Scullflower?! Bless you 🙂

Yeah, I reckon he could be gone before January at this stage, and he couldn't really complain if he was gone.

I'd like to see him given a bit more time, but it doesn't look to be improving at all. Unless he starts making changes off the field to the set up, then there's no reason to think our on the field form will get better. Unless Sturridge or Sterling bail him out for a while.

I seriously doubt Rodgers will last the season but if he does I can't imagine FSG giving him any money to spend. The thing is he didn't waste the money last summer, he bought some tidy players. He just messed up big time by not buying a proven goalscorer. Rather than shelling out £20m on Lovren and £16m on Marios i'd have rathered him spend that cash on someone decent who is a proven goalscorer. I like Adam the Lama, Can is a great prospect and Markovich is going to be seriously exciting to watch when he fully kicks in to gear but they need to be played in order to get anything out of them. Sakho is young yes but he's going to be a bloody monster of a defender in time and he has to be better than Lovren. Hell, i'm better than Lovren. If this malarky is true about him not playing committee players then he's made his own bed and he needs to lay in it. He's fucked himself here there is no one else to blame!

I agree those changes off the field are needed but I seriously doubt they're within his gift.

Fair comment - more than that needs changing IMO but yes, that is a ball Rodgers could get rolling on his own account. He's previously set his face against doing so though. Despite agreeing that I'd give him more time, if I were in FSG's place I'd insist on bringing a defensive coach in and let the chips subsequently fall where they may as far as Rodgers is concerned.

Yeah well, Balotelli and Lambert and even Borini scored several goals last season.
I think the answer is we'll never know. You think he would have been decent, Skully doubts it. The answer lies somewhere in between.
