So another thread about Coutinho

Inter let him go for £8M. Everything he's shown for Liverpool so far is a player who is worth four or five times that amount.

Well done to Rodgers and well done to Coutinho. From day one he's been boss. No settling in period. No bullshit excuses. This is how good I am.

The fact that Steven Gerrard is already labelling alongside some of the best players he's ever played with says it all.

I agree. SG knows quality when he sees it, and is excited about playing with top players. His comments on Coutinho are very encouraging.

It won't be long until he is being linked with Barca/Real/Chelsea/Man City etc

He can be truly great. World class. He's clever, has superb judgement and good pace as well. He makes you feel you should put your tie on when he's playing, it's such a privilege to watch what he does.

This made me LOL in real life. Gold star to you.

Coutinho is only a year older than Suso and still miles ahead of him. To be fair he's miles ahead of some of those in the squad who are older than him as well.

Suso and Sterling need to be loaned out.

Could we have stumbled upon our longterm replacement for Gerrard?
Nah, I don't think we could possibly count on him to dig us out of holes the way Gerrard has done on countless occasions, and by that I don't just mean goals and assists, but other stuff like putting in the crunchiest (and fair) tackle imaginable to lift team spirit or slow down the opponents.

In terms of purely attacking sense, he has the potential to get beyond Gerrard.

Still a little worried as really promising players at his age sometimes don't make it at all. Aimar a prime example.

I'm gonna say no, as I think he'll leave us in 2 seasons. But we'll see

The one thing I remember reading about him is that he's much like Kaka in that he comes from a good home, and settled down with a girl quick. I think if we provide what he wants competition wise, he'll stay for a while ... We've given him a chance that was missing at Inter.

yeah probably agree with this, sterling showed some great promise at the start of the season but he needs to get a bit better in the final third.

Coutinho is a beast, just hope we arnt getting ahead of ourselves with the praise

The very very good thing about Suarez being banned is that Coutinho will now get on the ball more times in a game. 6-0 is going to be the norm for the time being.

Even when Suarez comes back things like this don't revert back completely to their initial state, Coutinho should now retain some share of extra possession compared to before, hopefully an optimum share.

What? Did you mean Ortega?

To be taken off last week at h/t then to give a man of the match performance says it all about the lad. Has the ability and seems to have the desire to be a top player

But also worth saying that he deserved to be taken off last week at H/T. Nothing was working for him. And, we should expect his consistancy to be uneven given his age. So, we will need alternatives for a while. But, yesterday was a masterful performance.

Yeah, I'm not suggesting he'd be the all out combative gutsy replacement, we're never going to replace that, so we'll have to be a sum of our parts, more of a team, which is a good thing in many respects. He could be very much in the Silva/Modric mould, the Aimar that we never got.

How refreshing to see a Liverpool player run at the defence while doing step overs, and actually executing the play to perfection resulting in a goal!

Everything Coutinho has shown us so far indicates he's going to be in the top four or five players in the world before long.

There's only two things he has left to prove: consistency and influencing the match against the better teams.

He's also going to have to get used to being man marked next year.

Those last two sentences describe the hardest aspects a player like him has to overcome, and something most never do overcome.
Hope we supporters don't go overboard with him and put too much pressure there. I don't know what went wrong at Inter but I hope it wasn't because of his mentality...
