Couldn't see this anywhere on here, surprisingly. So apologies if I've quiffed:
Skrtel agent hints at Liverpool stay

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has hinted that he would be happy to turn down interested parties in order to stay at Anfield.
The Slovakian international has been linked with a move to Manchester City this week, with Roberto Mancini’s men reportedly willing to pay in the region of £20 million for the former Zenit St. Petersburg star.
Despite a lack of Champions League football at Anfield next term, agent Karol Cstonto insists that it’s a fact that doesn’t have to be decisive over a potential move, providing his client sees eye-to-eye with his new boss.

“Some changes have been made at the club and he (Martin Skrtel) wants to know what the aims and ambitions are. And of course, we will discuss the issue of Martin’s new contract,” said Cstonto.

“Liverpool is a big club and just because they haven’t made the Champions League this year doesn’t mean they would not do it next year. There are expectations on both sides, though.”
The 27-year-old currently has two-years left on his contract, but Rodgers will be eager to enter into negotiations quickly in an effort to tie down last season’s Player of the Season on Merseyside.
Skrtel joined the club in 2008, and after spending time as understudy to the likes of Jamie Carragher, he became a regular during the 2010/11 season. As the club’s top performer last term, keeping hold of the player could be crucial to their efforts next term.

That has to be one of the vaguest hints I have ever read

I really hope he stays. He's just had a monster of a season. He has that gift of getting a few goals from set-pieces too. He and Agger have a terrific understanding. Keep, keep, keep!

We need to keep Skrtel, we've lost enough top players over the last few years as it is.

Sure we could get £20m-£25m for Skrtel and re-invest it in the squad but then you become a selling club and any replacement(s) are usually of less quality. We've seen it with Alonso going, with Mascherano going, with Torres going and even Benayoun. So basically, there's seldom any good to come from selling your best players.

Skrtel's 27, in his prime, he's formed a brilliant partneship with Agger and he's just after having his best season in a Liverpool shirt - to lose him would be a mega blow and i really hope he stays.

Yeah I agree we've messed up in the past but hoping Rodgers can buy better players, I wouldn't say Skrtel is as integral to the squad as an alonso, Torres or mascherano. I agree we shouldn't sell him fr the sake of it but if ridiculous offer comes in and he wants to go then I don't think it would bother me as much as the others leaving

Wouldn't bother me if Skrtel left. He's not irreplaceable like Alonso.
We've got Coates ready to take over and there's a lot CB's out there who are just as good as Skrtel.
Doesn't mean that we should let him go cheaply. The ball is still in our court. How desperate are City?
We should do to them what Newcastle did to us.

It wouldn't bother you if we sold one half of one of the second best centre back pairings in the country. Right....... And Coates has proven fuck all so far.

Quelle surprise though.

Nope. That money could be spent on improving our attack.
I see potential in Coates. He's about the same age Agger was when he made his debut.

Id rather not sacrifice defensive stability for attack.

No doubt agger will pick up niggles again and coates will get his chance this season.

You seem more outlandish and wummy than normal modo. everything ok at home? Im genuinely not being sarcastic either.

i would sell him, but have no trust in our transfer policy to find a better replacement - we would probably sign jakielka for 15m....

Still concerned that we havent signed anyone.

Transfer window only opened June 1st!!!

If no new players by time we fly out for pre-season tour then maybe be concerned

I know but seems like everyone's doing business except us.
I bought the whole "maybe we're buying someone who's occupied playing in the Euro's".
Then I that the Czech fullback Gebre Selassie has signed with some German club.
Sigurdsson was supposed to be a done deal....
To be honest, I don't think there's any money to spend and that's why we haven't bought anyone yet.

It does not in fact open until July 1st, so it is even less strange, even less so that we are in the middle of the Euro's, still why let two good reasons get in the way of a little of Modo's hysteria.

Plenty of time for signings.

Plus this summer transfers look somewhat exciting.

The euro's are on, lots of goals, enjoy that

Admittedly it's the Daily Star but here goes.

RODGERS TO SELL SKRTEL
24th June 2012
By Steve Millar

LIVERPOOL will consider cashing in on defender Martin Skrtel to almost double Brendan Rodgers’ summer transfer kitty.

Manchester City will be first in the queue to snap up the Slovakian star for £20million with boss Roberto Mancini determined to make his solid defence even more impregnable.

Mancini is not totally convinced by Stefan Savic as back-up for his skipper Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott and sees Skrtel as an ideal addition to his back four.

Initially, the thought of losing Skrtel filled Liverpool with dread but it is dawning on them that £20m would be good business.

Liverpool have plenty of other options with the Anfield hierarchy hugely impressed by Sebastian Coates.

Martin Kelly has bags of potential as a central defender and Jamie Carragher is still around.

Skrtel is a major player at Liverpool but it is believed that he is not thought to be irreplaceable, like Pepe Reina, Daniel Agger and Luis Suarez.

Rodgers’ budget was always going to be limited with Liverpool’s American owners in no rush to spend the way previous boss Kenny Dalglish did with his £105.3m spree.

It is understood the war chest will be around £30m so Skrtel’s extra £20m will prove to be a welcome bonus for Rodgers.

His first priority will be to reunite himself with Gylfi Sigurdsson, who scored seven goals on loan at Rodgers’ old club Swansea last season.

"to almost double Brendan Rodgers’ summer transfer kitty". So they're suggesting his initial budget is less than £20m? #Readingbetweenthelines
