Skrtel Appreciation Thread

Fuck me Gene I got you the original print pressing of Nuts in May for your 29th and you said 'Well its not Leighs best work, next year id like something that makes a Slovakian look a cunt'

Youre a hard man to please.

Great performance. Pelle has dominated quite a lot of centre backs this season but Skrtel had pretty good control and won most headers.

Been a big fan of him since he played his way back into the team two years ago instead of leaving.

He still has the odd moment where he lunges in but he's still the first defender I would name from our selection.

All he's missed this season is the goals.

He's always been an excellent defender with a perfect attitude since he came here. Sure he had shaky games and bad runs and made mistakes but overall he's been our best centre back after the Carra/Hyypia pairing and comfortably so.

Lads, genes crying out for a six day suspension from scm, such wanton subversiveness merits nothing less

Skrtel wasn't great in the first half, along with the rest of the back three. He and the rest were much more solid in the second period but some of Skrtel's defending in the first half could easily have cost us a goal. The defending in the first half reminded me of our poor lapses in the first half against Spurs (away) that nearly cost us. Remember Skrtel challenging with Can for a ball with it squirting through to a Southampton player in behind them? Exactly the same lapse as Skrtel (with Sakho) in the Spurs game. I do like him, but he certainly wasn't my MOM because the back three were like the Keystone cops at times in the first half.

This is what I was trying to point out in my post. He's a dominating centre back, but he has mistakes in him, costly ones too, but I think this system really help cover his arse in situations, making them not nearly as much of an issue. He was still my motm, because besides a few errors, he was superb.

Yet another player who seems to have had a remarkable turn around since Christmas. It's really rather incredible all round really.

Is it my imagination, or does Skrtel even looks differently in the last couple of months? Earlier in the season his posture was more hunched over and he looked thinner and clumsier. Now he's slick and confident.

One of the reasons he has always been a favorite of mine.

Never moans or whines, doesn't ever display poor body language or pout. Plays through nagging injuries and rarely misses game time. Never leaves you wondering if he could have done more.
