Six more signings and 135 million War Chest?

I was really just using him as an example of the calibre of signings we could go for in that position with ~£40m to play with. I couldn't be bothered thinking very hard. Here's a better one I genuinely believe in - Draxler.
Draxler is something special, maybe thats a road worth walking down.

At the minute we are signing potential, the next level. No proven talent. Maybe a marquee signing will redress that.

I dunno. Isn't that what we've always done though? When did we last sign a player who was already established as one of the top players in the world? I can't remember us ever doing that; our successful signings have been players who have become top class whilst playing for us. Suarez, Torres, Alonso, Hyypia, Danny Murphy, Barnes, Aldridge, Dalglish, Nigel Spackman, Souness, Keegan, all in that criteria. Dalglish was probably the most established of all of those in that he'd been tearing up the Scottish League for Celtic, but the rest were seen as promising rather than in the top tier.

I'd say Torres was pretty close. Certainly much much closer than Markovic and Draxler are now.

True but BR went on record about us getting established proven first teamers. That hasn't materialised yet. CB needs to be addressed urgently. The figures being bandied about for Bony and Lovren are just ridiculous. Moreno for 20M is insane.

I'd agree about Centre Back. We need more leadership in the side - one of the key things Lovren will have to do is be prepared to shout at Gerrard, because he's going to have to be positionally spot on. I think signing a CB and a LB are first team signings, as Lallana is and (bearing in mind the price) Markovic. I dunno about Bony.

I'm not really a hustle and bustle striker fan but Bony showed against us that he can play and score all types of goals. What else is out there apart from Remy whom I would prefer. With Aspas getting shipped, there's a spot available but I'm not of the opinion that we need a £20M bench player.

Enrique is back so a LB may just be back up and its unlikely that we'll get a £20M LB to sit on the bench. Lovren is a must but we're getting outmanouvred by So'ton again who are now demanding £30M.

I've barely watched Bony to be honest, but his goalscoring record is good.

The only positions that concern me are CB and LB to be honest. And I don't massively care how much money we spend if we get the right players in. But then time will tell if we have.

I don't know - I'm just not getting worked up about transfers any more, to be honest. I would rather just wait and see how we play when the games start. If we can add a bit more intelligence to our game, have a bit more leadership in the team and have a more solid defence I think we'll be boss this season.

I am. This is part of the problem. Look at the benches of City & Chelsea and probably Arsenal & United by the start of the season too. Quality through & through. If you don't want a £20m option then you're looking at an Aspas or Alberto type level again !

We don't want to be slotting £5-10m players in when our 1st team players are injured or in need of a rest. We want to be able to maintain the level we're at.

I don't disagree with you, but you have to consider that we don't have the 11 £50m players to make up the starters that they do either.

We are buying £20m subs without buying the big players to take the first team spots. It is looking like we will have a wealth of pretty good options and few "nailed on" world class players.

I would prefer laying out cash on 2 or 3 "huge" players in our weakest positions and shifting the current players to the bench. Most everyone that played a decent amount last season is capable of filling in in a pinch at the very least. I don't know that that is an option with who is available and who is willing to come here, but that would be my personal strategy. Of course it also doesn't jobs with FSG's supposed strategy of buying young players we can profit on either. Markovic and Moreno are right up that alley.
