Seems everyone is of the conclusion that Hodgson has taken over where Rafa left off. I'm not overawed with his subs so far, but he's at least tried to address most of the problems we have (left back, central midfield) and I'm pretty sure his first choice midfield isn't Lucas and Poulsen, given he's said he wants to play Gerrard there and Meireles has just been bought for £11m (not to mention the effect of Cole's suspension).

Anyway.......... 5 points from 12, but for a gaff against Arsenal could have been 8pts from what was a difficult start.

This was Rafa's start:

1st season

Spurs (A) draw
City (H) win
Bolton (A) loss
United (A) loss
Norwich (H) Won
Chelsea (A) loss

2nd season:

Boro (A) draw
Sunderland (H) Win
Spurs (A) draw
United (H) draw
Brum (A) draw
Chelsea (H) loss

Benitez joined us as one of the best, most sought-after, successful and highly-rated managers in World football.

Roy Hodgeson is 62 and has a face like an abused geriatric budgie.

Spot. The. Difference.

Oh does that mean we win the European cup at the end of the Season?
[/quote]

Not if the previous manager left us in 7th place.

So he doesn't deserve time then? Thanks for skipping the point just so you could post the same old shit.

No, because the superstar manager we had last season fucked up the qualification for that

We both post "the same old shit", Mark.

I'm just right most of the time, and you're not.

While it would be quite simple to blame the manager, after all he did buy Poulsen and stick him next to Lucas, we have them same points from these first four games as we had last season. If we get beat next week we'll still be no worse off. It's a combo of dead hard fixtures, a shite squad and if the manager is going to have an effect it won't be overnight.

so because rafa had a slow start and roy is a new manager he (roy) gets a pass for his frankly horrible team selections and unwillingness to make subs?

It's all feeling very familiar isn't it? I was beside a few other fans in the pub yesterday and the frustration emanating from us had almost physically manifested itself as a fucking horrible dark cloud above our heads.

Not a chance.

He deserves all the criticism he gets for those.

we have had some tricky games but we're playing badly anyway. we basically just rolled over against City for example, it was embarassing.

pointing out that the previous manager who was a failure had a similar start doesn't help much.

Especially when that previous manager had just won two La Liga titles, a UEFA cup and was one of the most highly sought after young managers in the world.

Whereas Roy is 62 and had just come 12th with Fulham.

Expectations vary.

You told Benitez to fuck off nearly as much as Rage.

Who did you expect would replace him?

Correct.

And also said in June that Hodgeson was favourite to replace him, and expressed dismay.
And also started a thread outlining the realistic choices should Benitez leave, and made it quite clear (along with more than half of the site) that if the choice was between Benitez, Hodgeson, MacLeish et al, Benitez would be my choice as manager.
And also said if the choice was Kenny or Hodgseon, Kenny would be my choice.
And also said that the decision to appoint the Budgie-faced geriatric mediocrity was made by non-football people, for non-football reasons
And also said that the brave choice would be a young, hungry, potentially risky manager to shake the team and club up.

But no. We got the 62-year old Fulham manager. And look at the fucking state of us.

If we'd kept Benitez, would Gerrard and Torres still be at the club though?

To be fair though, which young hungry manager would come here admist civil war and a negative spend. We got the best we could afford in Roy Hodgson. An old head, who we hope can stabilise the club in these troubled times. Lets not forget, he's had next to nothing to spend. I'll criticise Roy for playing Poulsen and Lucas together, but i'll also give him time and patience before seriously calling for his head.

Arsenal - The only points they've dropped were at us, and they were f#$!ing blessed.
Man City - Fair enough, we were humped. But the Mascher thing destroyed our plan, and other teams will take a beating there this season.
Birmingham - Haven't lost at home in a year now. Chelsea, United, Arsenal, City, et al ALL drew there last season too.
United - We may well get humped there too.

Yep, Roy's a cnut.

He must be. We're four games in, facing United, and we're playing poorly against tough teams.

Don't suppose there's ANY chance some of you lot could give him until halloween or so, when Meireles has bedded in a little, when Joe Cole's had a decent run, when Torres is back to fully match fit and when every other match isn't against title contenders, before wanting him tarred and feathered..?

This is getting fucking boring now. Horrible team selections? Ok, so he could have gambled on someone like Shelvey, but then he's inexperienced and hasn't kicked a Premiership ball, so it could have gone the other way. Meireles wasn't ready, and for the umpteenth time, he's made it pretty clear that Lucas isn't going to be first choice by buying Poulsen, Meireles and insisting Gerrard has a central role to play, injury/suspension/timing has forced his hand, get over it.

Besides that, what's the so horrible about the selection? The fact he didn't play Agger and Babel? The fact our fullbacks haven't been rampaging up and down the flanks like born again wingers? What else did he have other than Maxi and Jovanovic? The saviour Pacheco?

Yeah he could have been bolder with his subs, but stop with this exaggerated stuff about team selections, the team more or less picked itself due to circumstance. Everyone was calling him naive for going 442 against City and 'trying' to go for it. Now he's defensive again. Blah blah.

He'd have still fucking moaned about it, and then triumphed it when it went tits up.

I wanted the atletico manger. young, hungry, plays an attacking brand of football. I've got to be honest, I'm fucking board to death of the football we dish out week in, week out, it wouldn't be so bad if we were grinding out wins but we aren't.

Grinding out wins? Are you having a laugh? We played Arsenal with 10 men for more than a half, we got humped by City (I'm sure a few teams will), we 'ground out' a win against West Brom and we got a point away at Brum. Feel free to act like it's the end of the World and we've got this superstar-studded squad going to waste if you want.

The squad we've had available has been more or less the same squad that Rafa had last year, minus Masher and with the addition of Poulsen. Cole has played 43 minutes of Premiership football, Meireles even less. Get a grip.

to be honest mark, it's not the results it's the performances. look, don't get me wrong I'm not calling for the manager's head, I think you know how patient I am with regards to managers.
