Thought I'd share:

One of the commantoters on Danish telly during the game in the weekend went into over-drive when Coates was beeing filmed at Anfield.

He said that he had just been commentating the Copa America and that Coates completely and utterly outshone any other young hyped South American player around.

He then went on saying that his co-commentator was even more impressed, thought of him to be the best young defender he had ever seen play. And said something along the line of 'who's Nilmar, everyone should be talking about this lad'.

I must admit I've only rarely heard, if ever, such unequivocally high praise from a commentator with regards to a young player. To say the least got my hopes up.
His Scottish grandparents were actually Viking descendants, hence the hype.

Seriously though, it's good to hear!
He's half Scottish?

If his Grandparents are Scottish, he could play for Scotland, so he shouldn't need a work permit?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/timvickery/2011/08/premier_league_will_test_talen.html

He has performed solidly through the club's two subsequent Libertadores campaigns, having responsibility thrust upon him and, without being a shouter, showing good leadership potential, organising things around him, keeping things simple and using his height to be a dominant figure in both penalty areas. He is much further down the road than Paletta was five years ago.

Didn't Vickery play down his quality a week or so ago?

Suarez has just confirmed on twitter that he's signed:

Luis16suarez

I want to welcome Coates, partner in the uruguayan team, friend and great player who just signed for LFC!

Seb Co.... Nicely done

This is going to be a very good signing for us, much better than Cahill or Dann would have been.

"We are in Lisbon, en route to Manchester. We are going to arrive 10 hours late, about six in the afternoon in Uruguay [22:00 BST]. We should have been there a while ago, but the negotiations will be done tonight," Nacional director Hector Olmos admitted in an interview with Radio 1010.

"I get the feeling that the normal paths of communication have not been maintained. We are going to negotiate and I believe that we are going to take a bit more money."

American, like.

As I said earlier... there was a legally binding contract with Nacional when they gave 'permission' for us to speak to Coates. For them to come back and ask for more, we are legally entitled to tell them in polite terms 'get to fuck'. The power then lies with the player. I'm assuming we have all the paperwork to back up the argument.

I'm 100% sure only thing holding up the transfer was the work permit.

Suarez is boss! There'll be no action taken. He is just excited and Nacional have confirmed the signing. Worst kept secret ever!
