Definitely. Despite my annoyance at the departure of Ming I do think we needed an aerial competent CB more than an attacking CM.

And I'm optimistic about Bellamy. He's a very improvement on N'gog.

We've done well.

He is a very improvement.

I'm really excited by Coates, which is fucking stupid because ive never seen him play. But damn those are some good write ups!

How many games are we going to see from him?

He's going to have to be amazing to replace Carragher and win the fans hearts. Good luck to him.

I'd imagine not many this year, mostly cup games i'd say. Debut in league cup in a few weeks?

I don't think he is going to have to be that amazing to replace Carra as even his staunchest supporter must see he is on his last legs, and his greater worth to the team at the moment is his organisational skills. If he plays well he will. Sami was a legend while Carra was still here.
I don't see the argument to be honest squiggs

regards

That shouldn't be underestimated though. Skrtel and Agger are awful at it at present.

Quite, Pepe is very good at it though, although he can't organise the defence as well as a centre back can.

I still expect to see a lot of Coates and Agger in the middle this year, especially with Kelly and Johnson emulating glass.

It's more of a sentimental argument really.

We're had Hyppia going and Carra stepping up brilliantly. Two CB's the fans have loved for years. Coats needs to be a beast, because we're accustomed to great CB's who last for decades.

Indeed, one only needs to look at the mess the defence was in November/December last year when Cara was out with his shoulder injury to see that.

He's going to be a real Bully for some of the league's best strikeforces.

Started on bench tonight. Anyone know if he came on?. They won 3 2 v Ukraine
[/quote]

He came on in the 73rd min for Lugano who scored a goal in the 61st min. Suarez played the entire match.

His dad is scottish, so he speaks a form of english, and he'll be more wedded to the club than others....he likely has an understanding of football beyond uruquay...

If he was so good for Uruguay recently, why is he now on the bench?

Because it was a friendly and who knows? I think his selection at the Copa is more relevant...

Lugano and Godin were the central pairing with 100+ caps between them. Besides, having traveled from Uruguay to England and going through the paper work for the transfer etc, doubt he trained much.

Craig Levein has revealed he was set to make an approach to try and tempt Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates to play for Scotland.

Coates, who joined Liverpool in the summer, has a Scottish father but was born and raised in Uruguay.

The former Nacional player had already represented his country’s Under-20 side but would have been eligible to switch to Scotland.

That possibility ended however when Coates made his full, competitive international debut against Chile in July’s Copa America, which Uruguay won, and the 21-year-old was subsequently named the tournament’s best player.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Levein said the Scottish FA missed their opportunity to try and sway Coates. "He'd been capped by the time we found out about him,” said the national boss.

Coates has now played six times for Uruguay and has also played three times for Liverpool, including one English Premier League appearance as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur.

He said the same of Shelvey. Can't see it happening
