33. Ability to be shoe-horned into bizarre analogies by Insignificance on sixcrazyminutes.

We're half way there lads.

Incidentally, am I the only one who finds the whole horsepower (as opposed to horse powers) concept really stupid? Who can honestly say what kind of power 65 horses can generate? There are just so many unknowable factors in the equation. And who can imagine what it would take logistically to get 65 horses to pull a carraige anyway? In some cases the first horse would be there before you even left, it's absurd. I don't think you'd get there any slower if you just used a good 8 horses. In fact, it would just take a couple of shit horses to slow the whole lot up and by having 65 you're just increasing the chances of getting some real wastrel horses. The chain is only as strong as the weakest link etc..

Hmmm watching this tread with great amuse, and wonder when Ill tell the guys that my Ferrari has 650 HP and not 65..... It is still frustrating...

I don't even think the talent is there, unless you conclude that having pace and occasionally being able to crack a shot is going to prove good enough under the right manager.

I'd agree, he's just not that good, full stop. I don't think he'll go to another top club and I don't think we'll get serious money for him, 4mil tops. Anyone who pays over that is insane.

He really makes you weep. He really does. You know he can score goals like that, and then hit awful shots like he did. What on earth does he do in training?

Patently not. His ill-timed and half-hearted attempt at a header in the Lyon attack that scored just wasn't a good enough effort for a player that should have been dying on his feet trying to hang on to what we had. He missed it by so much that he must have known beforehand he needed to move his position, but he just leapt at thin air and it sailed over him. To me it was indicative of his overall laziness as a player.

He might have scored an awesome goal, but he's still shit. He showed that with the free kick and attempt on goal after he'd scored.

No heart.

Apparently Rafa is of the believe that having mis-used Babel and driven his confidence through the floor during his time here, he should now ask for MORE than we paid for him. Fucking hell.

Birmingham admit defeat over Babel and McGeady
By Soccernet staff

Alex McLeish has suspended his interest in Liverpool forward Ryan Babel and Celtic midfielder Aiden McGeady after being informed that neither player is for sale in the January transfer window.

Ryan Babel has struggled for first-team football of late

With £40 million at his disposal, McLeish is expected to be one of the busier Premier League managers now the transfer window has reopened but two of his most high-profile targets appear not to be heading to St Andrew's.

Birmingham have failed with a bid worth a reported £9 million for Babel, who has started only three Premier League games under Rafa Benitez this season and has repeatedly voiced his frustration with life at Anfield.

McLeish has also seen an approach for Celtic playmaker McGeady fail, although he is refusing to comment on speculation that an offer has been made for Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones.

"We've made enquiries about a lot of people. I don't want to confirm or deny a bid has gone in (for Kenwyne Jones)," McLeish said. "There is a lot of transfer speculation now and it is not something I like to talk about when nothing has been done. We have made enquiries for several players. I am not going to confirm or deny any names.

"But as regards Aiden McGeady, we made an enquiry but we were told he is not for sale. The situation won't change until someone says he is up for sale. Is there any movement with the Babel situation? No, we've been told he is not for sale."

Birmingham have agreed a £3 million deal to sign long-term target Michel from Sporting Gijon and the midfielder is expected to arrive in England on Friday to undergo a medical and put the finishing touches to a transfer that has been a year in the making.

McLeish said: "It's probably better I talk about Michel once he actually comes and signs for Birmingham. But he is a holding midfielder in much the same way as we play Barry Ferguson and Lee Bowyer.

"He is very comfortable on the ball, has good quality, is only 23, has got good legs and is a player for now but also the future. I said I wanted to sign players of quality during January and he fits the bill.''

"It doesn't look likely things will be completed in time for him to be available against United as the registration has to go through by noon today [Friday]. But I will be delighted when it is all done and dusted as I have been keeping tabs on him for over 12 months now.''

However, McLeish is not to pursue his interest in Slovakian striker Jan Novak after the MFK Kosice striker spent last month on trial with Blues.

He said: "It was a difficult one because it was thrust upon us. Jan came in, he trained with us and he looked not too bad. But I don't know about Jan to make a commitment of £2-3 million. I feel I've got to go at the moment for players I am fully aware of.''

The club are also pondering a move for midfielder Giles Barnes who has been training with Birmingham following his release by former club Derby County earlier in the season.

"I believe other clubs are interested in having a look at him [Barnes] but we will speak to him tomorrow [Friday] and see what he wants to do," McLeish said. "He is a good player, has got a good idea about the game, a bit of vision."

I like the way McLeish flatly refuses to confirm or deny any names of players he's enquired about, and then spends the rest of the article confirming exactly who he's enquired about.

Giles Barnes released?

What a fall from grace.

Indeed. He looked an exciting prospect a few years back

Fucking hell McLeish's mail must have been held up by the weather and the video's have now got through.
We should have snapped their hand off.
I bet any money we will be lumbered with him until the summer now

regards

Yup. And he'll probably start another 5 games max.

If the stories are true and Rafa wouldn't receive any of the funds generated by his sale though, he'd be shooting himself in the foot somewhat by selling him. Despite his horrible attitude, he'll probably score one or two crackers before the end of the season if he stays, and is a better option off the bench than pretty much anyone else we have.
