for the worlds best striker playing like a fucking muppet

If Rafa or even Maureen had been our manager and Nando had started the season like this they would struggle.

Fuck me the so called £60 million striker was outclassed by Darren Bent.

Roy has not started well but any top team would struggle with their top goals man playing and acting like he doesn't care

If Nando starts banging them in, Roy's results will improve

He actually put himself about a bit yesterday. And you need to understand that Torres is hardly a player who makes something happen on his own. He's a bit like Owen in that regard. A striker who plays off the defenders' shoulders and is lethal when good service is provided but offers little in terms of team play. Having said that, he is also similar to Owen in the respect that regardless of form, he is always liable to convert when given half a chance.

So don't blame Torres for playing like a muppet. He's playing like he plays always. Give him a half-decent midfield and watch him transform. So like it or not, Roy IS to blame for playing the most toothless Liverpool midfield in ages.

roy is not to blame for being what he is either. he's too old to learn anything new. 'a good point' is how he described last night.

roy's appointment reminds me of the time when a secretary had been given the job of ceo of a company i used to work with. very quickly the star assets performances dropped, expectations were lowered, she surrounded herself with mediocrity to help re-assure her and soon lost sight of what the company's aspirations were. she knew the job was beyond her capabilities but then it had been her dream to run the company. in the end the company went to the wall as the board failed to intervene.

if someone asked roy what our expectations this season should be what do people think he'd say?

roy is an apprentice with a master's tools, lets hope someone takes them off him before he damages them too much.

If the team as a whole wasn't playing like cunts and Torres had more than half a chance a match to work with, he'd have more goals by now.

Yeah as the match went on Nando got more involved and started to look fairly like he wanted to be on the pitch at one point.

even if we had pelé up front for us in his pomp he'd struggle. ANY striker will struggle if there is no service and the service at liverpool fc is currently shite.

But the tempo we attack with, Pele would not struggle to follow even today!

Did anyone notice when Gerrard got the equalizer he ran right past Torres without even a smile, nevermind a thanks for the assist?

Trouble at t'mill?

If the Managers team selections and tactics make it difficult to give sufficient service to your striker then Torres making an impact is unlikely. It's not as if he's missing loads of sitters is it?

Yes he did miss a couple of sitters against Utrecht. It's true that he is not getting the best service, but when the midfield does get the ball to him, he is currently failing to do the business. I don't know how some people included Torres in their "man of the match" choices.

Roy takes his share of blame Fox. Playing P&L together, Meireles on the right or ahead of Gerrard at times. The player's don't know where they are playing and tactically we are all over the place.

Yes we could do with Torres banging in a few and i'm sure we'll go on a run at some stage.

It must be hard for him.

The 'team' are playing terribly, he's just come back from 5 months of being half fit/injured oh and to fucking woy hodgson!

I'm half expecting him score once and then to bag a few more off the back of it.

The manager AND the players are to blame..

Same old tactics.. uninspired players and no where near the same tactical nouse as Rafa...

things are ugly at the moment.

For the majority of our games this season i think Roy has picked decent teams that would enter the games as favourites. The problem is that bar maybe a couple of players our lot are playing way below their usual standards. You can blame Roy for the lack of motivation/tactics etc, but at the end of the day the players are the ones turning in shite individual performances time and again.

Most of them are playing like soft little girls who simply feel sorry for themselves.

In that case, no wonder he's off form.

Yep. He should have buried the chance Kuyt gave him. Overall though we could have bagged a couple on another day. It was a poor, uninspiring performance but little different from many away games we've seen us play in the CL over the years, particularly at this stage of the season.

The whole team is playing like shit.

Its not just hodgsons fault and torres fault.. its everyones

I agree. It's just too easy to blame the manager - small-time stuff and I am astonished how many respectable contributors to this forum are doing so.

I don't agree that Hodgson's tactics are to blame. He is not a magician who can make a weak and under-performing squad suddenly produce devastating football.

We seriously need a good wide player, we haven't got ONE.

roy has been quoted today as saying 'liverpool don't use wingers'

so stick a pin in expecting a winger anytime soon.

I'm willing to give Roy time. But I have to admit, I am very concerned right now.

Honestly, I wanted a young manager with fresh ideas and positive thinking like Riijkaard, because I wanted to see our team try and play positive creative football.

Having seen his first few months in charge, I fear, even if Roy is very successful with us (i'm talking 4th place), it'll be much in the same manner that our previous 2 managers were; with slow, defensive, cautious, unimaginative football. Which I've concluded will NEVER be enough to win the Premiership (based on the empiral evidence of the last 20years).

I guess I was hoping Roy would change his style of play given the superior players at his disposal. But as someone said, he looks an old dog, who can't learn new tricks. We won't be playing good positive football anytime soon I'd guess. His style is his style. Which had brought him relative success in the past.

So unfortunately, I don't think Roy will ever be good enough for us long term (with his brand of football).

Right now, I'm just hoping Roy WILL be a good enough stop-gap for a year whilst we get the ownership situation sorted. He should be given our FULL support for the year or so he's still here.

Where did he say that?

I don't think Hodgson should be let off so easily, Portly.

The same criticisms levelled at Rafa can be levelled at Hodgson, with the sole exception being Hodgson isnt to blame for the plethora of rubbish we have.

He must however try to utilise them as best he can and try to motivate as best he can.

So far he's failed on both counts.

Not that it matters like but Torres was equally poor during the WC and he certainly couldn't blame his teammates for not supplying him back then.

Still he's probably our most important player alongside Gerrard and I pray for him to come good very very soon.

I said before the season started it'd be 10 games plus before we start to see Torres of old back for so many reasons, but mostly fitness & confidence.

He'll get there, people are only so impatient cos we're bereft of ideas & quality.

Not sure what point you're trying to make about Torres, Kris.

Torres had a shit WC mainly because he should have never been at the WC.

Someone said that he's only not scoring because he's not getting the right supply. He has not scored before getting the supply needed that's all.

As said it doesn't really matter and I know he wasn't all fit but he was still mostly poor and has been so for quite some time.

He'll be good soon I'm positive I just hope he hasn't lost belief in the club.

Hodgson was also quizzed on Meireles playing on the right.

He said: "We don't play with wingers. The way he plays and the way Joe Cole plays, we think (playing wide midfield) is more than suited to their qualities.

groan...
