His man management with balotelli seems kind of bad. Public airing? Or maybe it will do the trick...

Balotelli seems like he needs more love less kicking in public.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has told striker Mario Balotelli he will not get picked for the squad unless he improves in training.

Rodgers said he spent an hour on Friday telling the Italy international exactly what he had to do in order to be considered.

"I am judging it every day in training - Mario is exactly the same as every other player, there is no special treatment for anyone," said the Reds manager

"Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert are working tirelessly in training and when they go on they have contributed and young Jordan Rossiter, on the bench today, has been brilliant in training and I have to judge it on that.

"If you want to contribute you have to be at it every single day in training in order to be in the squad on matchday.

"We had an hour or so yesterday chatting and he understands where he is at. He knows exactly what is required to be in this squad before he can be in the team.

"It is difficult for him but he knows the level of what this team is at - you see the aggression in our pressing and if you can't do that you are not going to be a part of what this team is trying to achieve."

Another striker, Daniel Sturridge, returns to training on Sunday having not featured for the Reds since August 31 because of a thigh injury and could make the squad for the second leg against Chelsea on Tuesday.

Liverpool lacked a cutting edge against their Championship visitors, although goalkeeper Adam Bogdan did his part to earn a replay with some good saves.

However, Rodgers felt Matt Mills should have been dismissed for pulling down Lazar Markovic's shorts early in the second half.

"We did everything but put the ball in the net," said Rodgers. "Creative-wise we were excellent and were defensively solid against a form team in the Championship."

Bolton boss Neil Lennon was delighted with the chance to take Liverpool back to the Macron Stadium.

"On the outside people would say Liverpool didn't play well but they played very well," he said.

"We were resolute, disciplined and we created a couple of our own chances as well.

"To come away from here with a draw having watched Liverpool on Tuesday night playing exceptional football is more than I could have asked for." "All I want for Christmas, is you" Lennon concluded.

Must have missed that bit

Niall, what else can Rodgers do? He's given him a run in the side and praised him before now. As a rule I'd prefer us to keep things in house, and I'm sure Rodgers would too, but sometimes you get a player as impervious to direction as Balotelli for whom nothing's left *but* a public kick in the pants.

True sir. Let's see how it works out. If it does he'll be manager of the decade!

As a sidebar, I met someone this weekend, a former united player who commentates, who says about Rodgers "if he was chocolate he'd eat himself".

Probably overstating but it was funny

Haha. Good line, but it wasn't original to him - it was first said about Souness in his playing days by a Scotland teammate, was certainly true then and may well be true about Rodgers as well (I got that impression before he'd even been appointed TBH, when word began to leak out about him saying he wouldn't apply for the job but would speak to the owners if approached). Few seem to be able to manage successfully at LFC's level without a bit of chutzpah though. One of the reasons why I admire Ancelotti so much is that he's one of the few exceptions.

When was it renamed? I missed that completely. The last time I was there to see us it was still the Reebok.

I have moved back into the undecided camp... though i still don't think he is the right man to take us forward long term..

That's being said I am happy for him to stay till the end of the season

BREN: Mmmm, is that Taytos I can smell?

LEN: Aye. Is it you or me? I feel homesick, so I do!

This continued scapegoating of Balotelli is pathetic.

'He doesn't press, or work hard in training.'

Fucking wikipedia could have told you that last summer before you spent 16M on him. What did you think you were getting Brodgson?

A player he said he didn't want, a week before. Probably.

Oh come on Mark.

I don't know what to think about it mate, tbh. It just seems a bit mad that he said he didn't want him and then two weeks later we have him. It's either massive turnaround of stupendous proportions, or the "panel" really are a bunch of cunts.

He clearly agreed to it, as he's stated that no one gets signed without his approval.

Then he spent weeks talking about how he was 'worth the gamble, very talented player' etc.

Balotelli's always been lazy. Always. He's never chased, harassed, worked for the team, or tracked back. So why blame him when he doesn't fit into your system? You bought him, you should have known what you were getting.

No one knows the full story. If the committee had Eto'o and Balotelli as Rodgers two options then there is more wrong with the set up than only Rodgers role in all this. A computer telling the committee a player is worth signing. I doubt his work ethic and pressing comes up there.

Rodgers wanted Remy and then Bony if I remember correctly. I highely doubt he would make these comments if signing Balotelli was just down to Rodgers. It makes him look like an idiot, which he clearly isnt.

Shit analogy alert:

Rodgers knew he was going out in the rain and his two choices were a shit umbrella or no umbrella at all. He's getting soaked and cursing that shit umbrella.
