Whenever I think of Rafa's reign as manager, one interview stands out. It was that interview by Carra, "Who's bigger than Liverpool?" It started with Shanks and carried on throughout the 70s, 80s and even the 90s and 00s despite a relative lack of success compared to the previous decades. Carra's attitude was something that I thought was starting to fade out with Rafa's last year, Hodgson and even during Kenny's reign. We were becoming like any other team - and it just seemed like we were missing that swagger that was half the battle.
Suarez started changing that - when you have a player of that calibre who's so driven to succeed, it pulls players with you.
I think when reading Rodgers' interview today - it was a dig at Moyes and Manure. He's coming into his own. Last year, his confidence etc at times just didn't fit. But as many have note - including some of his biggest critics - he seems to be maturing as a manger, and has become a leader of a young squad.
I looked at Coutinho's interview - where he said he had no clue about Moyes and that he's rarely bothered talking to the Brazilians up as Manchester - as a new Liverpool swagger. "And they are? We're Liverpool, who cares?"
With a young & hungry team, led by a young manager, it's fun to watch them grow together. While the results won't always be as good as the've been to start the season, Rome is being built ... and we're well into the project.
Shanks would be proud
