Brendan Rodgers has handed Liverpool a timely boost by agreeing a new long-term contract.
The Liverpool manager has 12 months, plus the option of another year, remaining on his deal but owners Fenway Sports Group have rewarded him for taking the club back into the Champions League with terms that are set to run to 2018.
Rodgers has yet to put pen to paper but that is a formality.
The 41-year-old could do so before Liverpool’s final game of the season on Sunday, at home to Newcastle, but it is more likely to be shortly after the end of the season.
FSG have never made any secret of their ambition to keep Rodgers for the long term and, equally, he is relishing the challenge at Anfield.
The only hold-up on the deal was Rodgers wanting to concentrate on the Barclays Premier League campaign rather than have any distractions.
‘There is no doubt that, at some point, we will agree another deal,’ Rodgers said before Liverpool played Chelsea last month. ‘I am sure of that.’
