Roberto Firmino - signed the silky swine

Brazil play him as a striker though, and I think that eventually will be his best position.

Watching his clips, he doesn't come across as either a playmaker or an AM who can carry the ball. The positions he takes up, the runs he makes are all very much the kind a second striker makes.

I wouldn't want him leading the line though. Sturridge/Origi, Firmino and Coutinho would be a productive front line IMO though.

If he is our striker purchase I don't think i'll be happy.

It reeks of another player who can do a job in multiple positions, whilst not excelling in any

There's stories that Ayre is in Chile so that's probably fucked it, the dopey cunt can't tie up his own shoelaces let alone a big transfer

Except, you know, all those other big transfers he's tied up over the last few years.

Haha, like Sanchez, Costa, Willian, Konoplyanka, Mikhitaryan and a few others along the way. Still we tied up Ings and Bogdan eh.

Our record ain't so great mate

It's hard to lump all those 'failures' on the club or any one individual within it, though. Sanchez, Costa and Mkhitaryan were non starters as the players weren't interested. Although Sanchez may have been had we got to him on time.

Deals take time to wrap up with a ton of variables. Seemingly every club has issues getting players over the line.

There's a story behind pretty much all of them though, as to why they didn't sign, people just act like they were there for the taking because it suits their agenda's. I'm far from Ayre's biggest fan, but Sanchez's wife decided where he was going, Costa held out for Chelsea, Willian opted for London via Spurs then Chelsea, Kono had his transfers pulled to us and Roma by their dickhead president. He's made some fuck ups but the reason many of those players opted to go elsewhere is because of other variables that were largely out of our control, Ayre's just the easy target.

He is a similar player to someone like Sanchez yeah? I think he's the exact type of player we need so. GET HIM.

I'm feeling a bit like that but ultimately not overly concerned about whether he's a dedicated striker or not - the main issue is whether he can rely on him to be a 15+ goals a season man.

I was never a big fan of Dirk as a player but the guy had goals in him wherever he played, some players just do.

Yep, they were all ready to sign on the dotted line and then Ian Ayre showed up. People needs for a scapegoat is mind boggling at times.

I think more crucially we need that catalyst in attack, it doesn't have to be a 20+ goal a season striker, but someone who can make things happen either between midfield or attack, someone who will get goals or moments of brilliance in big games, or tight games. Firmino and Kovacic would be ideal.

Exactly, since Suarez left and Sturridge died, there's been a major loss of talent in the final third. Firmino will provide that at the very least.

It's the difference between players like Ings pushing on and making a difference, Suarez had that quality to push other players the extra mile, as did Gerrard, as did Kuyt in different ways by battling hard and making the game easier for those around him. If we could get a combination of that battling quality and the ability to pull something out he hat, then we're back on track.

Can you imagine this as next seasons lineup:

....................Migs
Clyne...Skrtel....Sakho.....Moreno
.............Illarramendi
....Milner...Kovacic.....Coutinho
...........Firmino...Sturridge

Obviously highly highly highly unlikely, just the bullshit players we're linked with, but would be awesome!

Twitter is all over this in past hour. Ben Smith (bbc) and Pearce confirming our interest is genuine and consolidated..

His agent said last week that Firmino is moving to England.

That's why I'm at 50%. It's either us or United
