Roberto Firmino - signed the silky swine

Again, not really; not as far as I can tell anyway. As a whole, Hoffenheim had 4 guys scoring in double digits the season before; last season - nobody. The highest was Volland, with 8.

One thing to look at is Firmino's shot stats, The key thing I can see... is the breakdown of his misses in 14/15 vs 13/14:

In 14/15,
- he converted only about 7% of his attempts between the 6-yard and 18-yard box; in 13/14, this was 20% (including 2 penalties)
- he missed 3 out of 11 shots in the 6-yard box (can be open play or setpiece; no breakdown available), while he nailed both attempts in 13/14.
- he put 5 shots against the post / bar, as opposed to 1 in 13/14.
- 31 out of 95 of his shots were blocked (not sure if blocks include keeper saves), compared to 23 of 93 in 13/14.

Does that mean 13/14 was a good year for him and 14/15 an unlucky one or one where his success gained him more defensive attention? Or was 14/15 the norm and 13/14 the exception? Buy him to find out! 😀

Apart from that one flukey season he had, his shooting stats have been around 7%, which is the same as Sterling 😱
He surely can't be being touted as a striker?

@Rosco is right. Like I've said ages ago, I'm just a ctrl c & ctrl v warrior. 😀 @studsup's posts have always been insightful.

(Oh, regarding that percentage goals involvement, blame Opta 😛).

It's not meant as any disrespect. You so rarely fucking post anything that isn't copy and paste.

Studsup way of looking at stats is exactly the way the football world is moving.

The only way that percentage thing is of any relevance is if there's some sort of usage rate type stat too - like they have in basketball.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't getting a bit blimin excited about this link. Tony B and one or two other Journos that know their shit are mentioning it now too.

*awaits confirmation he's signed for the Mancs*

I really think we would have needed to move more quickly on this one.
All of Europe will be alive to this now and its got Willian/Myktharian written all over it.

There's no way he could do that with a bin, he's not that good. I bet Benteke could though.

Yep. If he has a clause we'd have done well to agree terms then straight activate it.

Yep, this is my main concern, if we don't hear strong noises that this is all but done by the end of the week, I don't expect it will happen.

The echo and sky sports news are both saying this is on.
Were defo interested, who knows if he'll actually come here though

Hopefully Brazil get knocked out soon so this can be tied up quickly.

Hope the club are not blowing smoke up our arses here again though.
Meltdown if this doesn't happen now.

This is a genuinely exciting signing. I'm buzzing.

FAO those who haven't seen him play/have heard of him: it's your duty to get on the he's fucking quality bandwagon.

Liverpool FC are closing in on the signing of Roberto Firmino – having agreed a deal with Hoffenheim for the Brazilian forward.
The ECHO revealed on Tuesday that a Liverpool delegation had held a meeting with the player’s representatives at the Copa America in Chile where he is currently on duty with his nation.
It is now understood a deal has been agreed in principle with both the player and his club although Firmino will require a work permit before he can complete his deal to Anfield. The ECHO understands the Reds are confident of meeting those requirements however.
It is believed the deal will make the 23-year-old the Reds’ second most expensive player ever, with a fee in the region of £25m-£30m.
Firmino, who scored the winner for Brazil against Venezuela on Sunday, has been in the Bundesliga since 2011, scoring 35 goals in 140 appearances for Hoffenheim, playing a traditional number 10 style role.
Reports in Brazil this morning suggested a deal was already in place and although that was premature, the Reds were hopeful of securing his signature.

The likely fee would place Firmino at number two on Liverpool’s most expensive ever signings, below only the £35m infamously shelled out on Andy Carroll in January 2011 and ahead of the £25m spent prising Adam Lallana away from Southampton last summer.
Firmino will be back in action on Saturday where the Neymar-less team – the Barcelona striker is banned from the rest of the tournament – will take on Paraguay in the Copa quarter finals.
He is likely to start the game alongside his possible future team-mate, Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho. who started against Venezuela and played for 67 minutes

To dampen the excitement somewhat wasn't it reported that we had agreed a deal with Sanchez last season.
Until he signs on the dotted line I will be holding my breath.

The Echo seem to have been kept out the loop of late, yesterday they barely mentioned Firmino but ran with the story about the other two South American players. So maybe we are keeping big deals close to our chests to get them wrapped up without the usual hiccups.

Great stuff. Really excited about this chap. Get rid of raheem and add a couple more signings, we'll be doing well as long as that rogers sorts himself out.
