The only competition he's giving Reina is who can let in more soft goals, I'm afraid.
Remember Nikolay Mihaylov? He's the Bulgarian keeper we had to send out on loan right after getting him, because of work permit issues. Not watched him play but he was Bulgaria Footballer of The Year in 2011, if that means something. Anyway, when we sold him to FC Twente last year, he mentioned that we retained a buyback option on him. Not sure if that's lapsed; if not, he could be an option. Anyone watches enough Dutch football to know how he's doing?
In any case, when Rodgers joined, we were linked to the backup keeper at Wolves I think. So I suppose we may pursue that again in January or in the next summer window. Unless Reina wants out, in which case, we should just try to sell him for a good fee (hopefully!) and bring in a first team replacement. He's a good keeper, but like Gerrard, the number of bad performances have seen an unhealthy increase these 2 - 3 seasons.
