He's done for the season, I reckon. The amount of serious injuries he gets is a worry.

I think if he had constant niggles like Lallana or Sturridge it might be more worrying. The cruciate injuries appeared to freak events and then he was clattered by a player Dyche had sent out to basically rough us up.

I like Maguire but for the same price (or less) we could get koulibaly for Napoli who is better.

Given it was an impact injury, not muscle, does this mean anything from a recurrence POV e.g. less likely to have an impact on that side of things?

Sounds to me like he'll be attempting to get back up to speed when April comes around.. might be handy at the sharp end if we're still going strong.

Gomez is the new Johnathan Woodgate...

Great defender with huge potential, but made of glass

Ironically Woodgate is a scout for us I believe

Woodgate's debut for Real Madrid is an all-time comedy classic, with added piquancy because he'd been injured and so didn't actually make his debut until more than a year after he signed.

Hur hur

That was hilarious..

Have to feel for him though.. such a massive move for what potentially could have been a massive player for Madrid, only for injuries to ruin his career...

500 odd days after they signed him he made his debut..

Klopps got his get out of jail card when we bottle it then.....

Fuck,

Cant we go 3 at the back with VVD sweeping and Loovren and Matip either side?

Why do we need to do that.. and use all 3 centre backs!!!

TAA is back for the next game anyway..

Fabinho is ample at CB/ RB

We will be fine...

In other injury news :

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been included in Liverpool's Champions League squad for the knockout stages in another strong indication the midfielder could return from a serious knee injury to feature this season.

Brewster is fit. He has to be a better bench option than the static Sturridge. [article]
Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster has declared himself fit after his injury nightmare – and is determined to push for a senior debut and repay the “amazing” faith of Jurgen Klopp.

Brewster has been sidelined for 13 months since suffering ankle and knee problems after sustaining a serious injury playing for the Reds' under-23 side against Manchester City.

The 18-year-old is highly-rated by the club and signed a new five-year contract last summer amid interest from overseas clubs.

Rather than continue his rehabilitation at the Academy, Brewster has been working at Melwood alongside the first team.

And now the teenager wants to justify the backing of Reds boss Klopp and make his professional bow in the coming months.

“It has been a frustrating time, I’ve been out for a long time and I don’t wish that on anyone,” Brewster, speaking to Press Association sport at a Safer Internet Day hosted by Liverpool through their Red Neighbours partnership.

“It’s happened and I’m finally back fit and doing what I love and pushing to get back in the team.

“To know that the boss really wants me to be in his plans for the future is amazing, especially a boss like him.

“They could easily have left me at the Academy to do my rehab but they wanted me to do my rehab with them, so I can’t thank them enough.

“During this injury I’ve had that, he has been there from beginning to the end and to know he still wants me – even though it’s been so long – gives me a great boost.

“Every time I see him he gives me a big hug. Not only him, every time I see the players they are asking about how I am, ‘How long?’, they can’t wait for me to be back in training and hopefully make my debut this year, if not next.”

Of his new contract, the 2017 Under-17 World Cup winner said: “It’s not really comfort because I don’t like the comfort zone.

“I like to work hard for my stuff so the injury and trying to get back fit, working hard, is all I’ve been doing.

“I want to prove to everyone that the boss has kept faith in me for a reason and I want to prove to everyone that I’m good enough to be in the first team.

“When I’m back, that is what I hope to do. It doesn’t stop, I’ll keep pushing myself

He's been out a long time though, it's a big ask to step up to the next level and overcome a 13 month lay off.

That's undoubtedly true for 90 mins however how about coming on for 15-20 mins ? Maybe he'd give us something Studge can't. Macca could probably advise better in that regard but the fact Klopp is also so keen on him says something.

He's not gonna play a minute this season

It'd be fucking stupid to

Brewster's only fit in the sense that he's no longer injured. After the unexpected setback at the start of this year, he's back to just doing light training. Klopp said he probably won't be back in full training with the rest of the first team until pre-season, but I think that's just to take all the pressure off him. They'll build up his training gradually, keep testing him, and if he stays okay I'm sure they'll go back to the original plan from last December: play him for the under23s a couple of times, and then give him some minutes as sub for the first team and see where that goes. He's a naturally intelligent kid in football terms, he's really imaginative and he'll thrive in this team and this style of play. I can't wait.

Macca, the echo article states Brewster has been working at Melwood alongside the first team.

I read that as being close to first team training which could lead to the possibility of bench appearances.

That was before he felt a slight 'issue' a few weeks ago. That lead to an anxious reversal of his schedule. He was really expected back before now, but that prompted major rethinking. I honestly don't know the medical info, but from what I hear he'll be back much sooner than expected but they just don't want the hype.

If this was a fairy tale, Ox would come and smash a few goals to help us win the champs league and league. redemption for missing the last few games of last year.
The old dreamer me would have said, "YES. This is deffo what is happening!" The battle-scarred, bitter realist me says, "he'll come on for a 10 mins, hobble off with a strain, and struggle to get another game". But he is clearly going to come on at HT in our semifinal against City in the CL and spank the winner from 30 yds before inspiring our league victory.

Fucking injury crisis my arse - most of it is self-inflicted bollox. But really ? - Gomez, and TAA out means injury crisis - what a load of bollox, we were all talking about how good a squad we have this season and now it's a crisis. If you ask me - the crisis is self-inflicted, as it always has been with Klopp, but it's come a month later this seasons.

1) Clyne on loan - what the fuck ?

2) Klopp playing Gomez on the right when he was as good as VVD to play in the centre. To me Gomez struggles as a RB, and LB, not surprising he gets injured, he has bad turning ability in those areas, and is not suited. Clyne should have played that game and yes you are all correct, - I don't believe Klopp when he has been saying Clyne was injured.

3) Did not buy a creative midfielder - yes Shaqiri did well in a few games, but again not good enough and we needed a strong regular for that midfield creative role. There really was a reason why he was never a regular starter with Bayern.

4) Our current situation was always going to happen, don't tell me none of you felt it - we were "Just" winning games, the ruthlessness is not there anymore, the bad passing of the front guys, and Firminio off form fucks us right up.

I've seen that too... it will be stellar... and it will figure in the Goal of the season contest.

The defence is obviously a big problem, Allison hasn't been keeping clean sheets, and TAA's pace gives that side more balance. And Matip isn't good enough, but we all knew that anyway.

As for goals, it's clear we don't have enough spread around the team. The only players who score are Salah, Mane and Firmino. Below that Shaqiri has 6. Then there's fuck all from anyone else. Zero goal threat from the midfield in open play is an issue.

Klopp on Gomez: "We're working on it being 4 to 6 weeks.

So we could be looking at him being available for Fulham away.

Lovely stuff. Fingers crossed it works out for him.
