Real Madrid Vs Liverpool

Wouldn't surprise if it's the same starting 11 as today. Maybe Lallana in for Coutinho or something.

God, I hope we're not on the end of a thrashing here.

Bring Rafa or Houllier in as guest manager for this one, park the bus and prepare to be probed...

This is one of the rare times when I'd be happy for us to go out, string five across midfield, stick 10 men behind the ball, be boring fuckers to kill the game and come back with a point. In other words - take a page from Chelsea when they visited Anfield last season. Maybe luck will favour us and we can steal a goal from a break. Rodgers has to swallow some pride and admit that he can't go to Madrid and go for a win, not in our current state anyway.

------------------Mignolet----------------
Manquillo--Skrtel--Lovren--Johnson
------------------Can---------------------
------Gerrard-Countinho-Lallana---
---Borini----------------------Sterling-

We should consider this game a free hit so let's shake things up completely and see how we get on. Mark's team above fits the bill.

Line up imo:

-------------------Mignolet

Johnson----Skrtel-----Lovren-----Moreno ( We don't have a better back line, imo)

----------Lucas-----------Henderson
------------------Coutinho
Sterling----------------------Borini/Lambert
------------------Balotelli/Lambert

Gerrard is the striker. Or at least that was Rafa's plan.

Rafa put Gerrard behind the striker or on the wing because he didn't rate Gerrard tactically is my recollection.
He gave Gerrard a free role in midfield and it worked.

2004-05: Gerrard at CM - or AM depending on the formation.
2005-06: Gerrard at RM, with Sissoko and Alonso in the middle.
2006-07: The same until Sissoko got his eye injury.
2007-08: I think Torres joined so Gerrard at AM - Free role
2008-09: The same
2009-10: Gerrard back in CM with Mascherano until Aquilani was fit enough to start.

I could be wrong.

I don't much care who we're playing, lets get back to the diamond and get on with making other teams think about us again.

I'd hate to be in Rodgers shoes right now because there is no easy way to approach this. Real Madrid are very difficult to contain, but pretty much impossible when your team is awful without the ball and you have no real pace up front to hit them on the counter with. Attempting to be aggressive only works if everyone is razor sharp, believes in the game plan and is willing to run themselves into the ground for 90mins - fucked on that front as well. Hmmm.

Play a diamond formation or some variation of with Sterling and Borini up front. We need to put some kind of pressure on their backline and neither Balotelli nor Lambert are capable of doing that job.

Let them have the space out wide, they're too good for us in those positions. Keep the fullbacks tight to the centre-backs and bring 2 midfielders right back when we don't have the ball. Make it tight and horribly congested in the middle. We're shit in the air too but I'd take our chances at dealing with their crosses over tracking their runners all day long. Real leave space when they're attacking and if we can get it together enough to string a few passes together we will get a few opportunities.

Is Manquillo injured???

When was the last time you went into a Liverpool match with such absolute certainty that we're going to lose?

Sometimes there's the odd glimmer of hope, the tiny bit inside you that if X, Y, Z go our way we could nick it, or a bit of false hope really. There's completely fuck all this time though. We're going to get dicked and nothing has ever been as certain.

I'm never confident when we go to United, City, Chelsea and the likes but this is another level altogether.

I'd take a spirited 2nil defeat right now. Madrid are a class act and are more than capable of smashing 5 or 6 past us.

Rafa made a comment about him being pushed further forward as he aged as it would get the best out of him.

I've always agreed with that. He's a hugely intelligent player, who in the past has looked very good in several different positions - he was a pretty great right back when needed - but he's got such prodigious attacking instincts it just seems a waste to cut that out of his game.

Its not halloween anymore for this horror showing.

Anything but a complete bumming would be a bonus.

God I miss Suarez.

I'm certain Manquillo will start this one. I'm assuming the reason he didn't play on Saturday was because he was being rested.

You honestly think that'll be the lineup? Astonishing.

If Gerrard isn't injured and isn't starting I'll buy his contract out myself.
