Real Madrid sign £34m Asier Illarramendi from Real Sociedad
Real Madrid have signed Real Sociedad midfielder Asier Illarramendi after agreeing to meet his buyout clause of around 39m euros (£34m).
The Spain Under-21 international, 23, has signed a six-year deal at the Bernabeu, subject to passing a medical.
"I came to the conclusion that it was an offer I couldn't refuse. It's a unique opportunity," Illarramendi said.
Real land 'new Xabi Alonso'

Andy WestEuropean football writer
"Like Xabi Alonso, he is a classy, composed, ball-playing midfielder who started his career with local club Real Sociedad, rising to fame by playing a key role in their surge to Champions League qualification. Illarramendi is the heartbeat of the team, sitting in front of the back four to dictate the game's flow and tempo with a wonderful range of passing."
"It hasn't been an easy decision; it has been very difficult for me because Real Sociedad have given me so much."
Illarramendi came through the youth ranks at Sociedad, and helped the club finish fourth in La Liga last season to secure a place in the Champions League.
He then played every game as Spain Under-21s won the European Under-21 Championship in Israel earlier this summer.
Illarramendi is Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti's fourth signing of the summer afterIsco joined from Malaga for £23m, Dani Carvajal moved from Bayer Leverkusen and Casemiro's loan deal from Sao Paulo was made permanent.
Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay was reluctant to sell Illarramendi.
He said: "We have a very important year ahead of us with a young coach (Jagoba Arrasate) and we wanted all our players to stay.
"We told Real Madrid that we wouldn't negotiate, and we said the same thing to Asier and his agents. We fought very hard for him to stay and it's been a difficult few days because we really wanted him to stay."

Real Madrid The Spain Under-21 international, 23,

How retarded is that line?

Before the under 21 championship I thought this guy was still a bit under the radar and potentially a steal. Obviously I was way wide of the mark!

Great piece of business for Real Sociedad. You could see why their coach decided to leave at the end of the season for Rennes though, even after he'd guided them to CL qualification.

Since 2009 ... fucking hell.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar – £17M
Lassana Diarra – £20M
Raul Albiol – £12M
Xabi Alonso – £30M
Angel Di Maria – £20M
Karim Benzema – £25M
Kaka – £56M
Cristiano Ronaldo – £80M
Ricardo Carvalho – £6.7M
Mesu Ozil – £16.6M
Sami Khedira – £12.5M
Fabio Coentrao – £25M
Jose Callejon – £5.5M
Nuri Sahin – £8M
Luka Modric – £33M
Isco – £23M

Modric - he most be on his way no?

So they probably can't afford Suarez the little tinker. How many big money signings do they sign in ther rebuilding years usually? What a pity.

Unfortunately not they can still afford him. They spent more in the summer when they bought Ronaldo. They'll just sell more buildings to the government and get another 300m the wankers.

Isco's €24 million was confirmed as being paid over 3 installments. RM apparently wanted to pay for this Illarramendi deal over 3 installments too but apparently both clubs settled for 2 installments instead. Callejon sold for €10 million while Getafe exercised an option to sign Pedro Leon permanently for €5-6 million. If these 2 signings turn out to be as good as they are expected to be, then its 2 positions filled for years to come too.

You're missing a couple there as well, e.g. Varane for about 10M.

Isco at 24M is a bit of a bargain really.

Why was he so cheap?

His buyout clause was €35-million but they came to agreement for €24m + potential €3m add ons. Probably made it clear he wanted to join RM while Malaga could do with the money too.

"The player means an outlay for Madrid of 38,949,000 euros, being the buy out clause of 32,190,000 (30 million plus inflation), plus VAT of 6,759,000."

€32 million to Real Sociedad then, with the 7% VAT payable to the Spanish League.
