Reina - 6 - Can't remember him being tested.

GlenJo - 6 - Ok, really didn't push forward as much as I thought he would

Carra - 2 - lost a point for each 10 hoofs, so that's 4 points lost from a 6

Skrtel - 3 - hoofed too much too, and really should have scored on his chance

Wilson - 3 - He's better than what he's showing - he's not comfortable on the left.

Lucas - 4 - tried but he's not the kind of player who can do things in a game where most of his team is playing like shit.

Ming - 4 - plays better when the squad is better

Cole - 4 - He's not going to be playing for us next year. Ton of the ball and that's about it. He may play better with better players around him.

Maxi - 4 - ok

Kuyt - 4 - I was positive he'd score but just wasn't his day.

Carroll - 4 - He tried. I like his engine. I like his hustle. I just hope his presence doesn't force our defenders to forget they can pass.

Subs:

Spearing - n/a - played ok
Ngog - n/a - created a few chances, perhaps should have come on earlier.

Poor game, but we got what we deserved. The ref was terrible I thought.

Reina - 6
Magic - 6.5
Carra - 6
Skrtel - 6.5
Wilson - 4.5
Lucas - 5
Ming - 4.5
Cole - 4.5
Maxi - 4.5
Kuyt - 4.5
Carroll - 6

Reina - 6 - Not much to do
Magic - 6 - Played one decent ball into the box. Little else on offer
Carra - 4 - I'm dead good at passing so I am.
Skrtel - 6 - Bit of composure and he could have slipped his chance under the keeper.
Wilson - 4 - Looks a little like Vlad Smicer
Lucas - 5 - Just occupied a space on the team sheet and offered little
Ming - 6 - Made an effort to get on the ball and pass, just couldn't pull it off
Cole - 3 - Seriously grim, doesn't look in good shape either which is the bare minimum
Maxi - 5 - Same as Lucas
Kuyt - 5 - Same as Lucas
Carroll - 6 - Starting first game, made his presence felt but didn't get a decent supply.

Kuyt was the only one who actually looked bothered.

He was Ryan, he's not a winger and that's the kind of game where we needed one, but he gave and gave. Maxi is fucking SHITE.

Ha ha ... Carroll didn't look like he cared? Lucas? Maxi? They just all played poorly.

Mark - I think your non-stop attacks on Maxi are much like the ones that drove you crazy re: Crouch. What separated his performance from Kuyt's? Lucas's? etc? He's not as bad as you, and so many others, continually make out to be (he just misses too many sitters! 😉)

Truly don't agree with much of that, to be honest LTW. Might be just me.

Reina - 7 Better from Pepe but the match will have done nothing to encourage him to call Anfield home past this season. Got down well and used the ball as well as he could.

GlenJo - 7 Thought this was one of Johnsons better performances - one little piece of skill in particular cheered me despite the dross going on elsewhere on the pitch. He looked quick, fit and ran his heart out which really pleased me. Hope he's still here next season.

Carra - 6.5 Two ways of looking at Carra's performance; he hoofed way more than we want our CB's doing but he found a player in red far more often than Ming or Cole or Maxi. That player was almost always Carroll but it looked our best route to goal.

Skrtel - 6.5 About the same as with Carra plus he got in a couple of tasty challenges then dragged it back down with a silly yellow. Still, he did about all he could with the exception that he should have scored late on.

Wilson - 5 He was certainly trying but he really didn't look comfortable where he was and I'm still unsure if he can put in a cross.

Lucas - 7 I thought Lucas did pretty well but, as pointed out, he's not a player who can dominate the game. However, he constantly came away with the ball, looked to play it down the side and into space rather than get funnelled into the centre as Braga wanted. One stupid foul on the edge of the box and a lack of shooting potency really limits him.

Ming - 4 And I think I'm being generous with a 4. The most memorable moment was when he looked to connect with a Johnson cross, missed by centimetres and collapsed to the turf. Otherwise he was very forgetable, constantly lost possession and skied an absolute free header from about 5 yards.

Cole - 5 He finished the match about as dire as Raul was but his bright opening where he skinned a couple of players and tricked his way into the box gave him a headstart.

Maxi - 4 He's either poor plus a goal or he's just poor. Tonight it was the latter and he's got nothing in his game to save him or the team. He doesn't work hard, doesn't create, looks impotent in front of goal; utterly uninspiring.

Kuyt - 5 The way he started I thought he was going to score. He just looked up for it with his work and industry and our bright opening made me think he'd get a chance. We faded and he just collapsed. I can't bring myself to comment on his touch again but is it really that difficult to miss the defender when crossing. Surely he could get one into the box once.

Carroll - 7.5 Was getting frustrated early on but never stopped trying which was great. Thought he could have scored with a couple of headed opportunities but otherwise he worked tirelessly to bring Ming, Kuyt, Cole and Maxi into the game. As it turned out this was just a frightening waste of effort.

Subs:

Spearing -6 I thought he added a bit when he came on thought it may just have been fresh legs.
Ngog - 6.5 He looked more of a goal threat in 5 minutes than Kuyt for 75 minutes. Had a feeling he was going to nick it for us but wasn't to be.

Kenny: The loss was hard to take but Kenny's refusal to roll the dice stuck in my throat. Sure, maybe nothing would have come of it but we were certainly going nowhere fast with the tactics on show.

I guess your ratings are more fair Wizadry - I just was so disappointed with the performance that I thought '6' was standout and 4s was ok-average.

I don't agree on Carra though - but as your post says, I focused on the hoofing and you perhaps more on the reason why. He did have one great pass though to Johnson (or Kuyt).

Crouch scored goals and made a contribution to our play, so how's it the same? I just don't get him LTW, he offers nothing.

Maxi has scored goals ... and he's very good in the quick passing game that Kenny has tried to employ. Imo, his off the ball movement is very good & he's one of our more capable passers in the midfield. He's also not really suited to playing the wing - but that's been a problem for Liverpool 'wingers' for years now.

Oh come on, he's an attacker, an international. His record reads that he's scored 4 goals in 46 appearances for us. You may aswell have defended Aurelio with the same comment, 'he scores goals'.

Ok -

I didn't think that Wilson was as bad as some people have said.
Certainly there were times when he had the ball with some space that begged to be ran into and he just turned inside and passed it on, usually to Maxi.
But he is not a left back by trade, let alone an attacking one. He is a young man who normally plays centre back, with a minimal amount of experience, playing an unfamiliar role.
He looked a bit nervous as well but for me there is something about him, he has a decent first touch and delivery and I certainly won't be writing him off just yet.

I think he's a good player in the making all right, but I thought he was shaky last night. I know it isn't his position, but he's played better at LB before now.

[/quote]He did tend to stand off his man a bit too much for my liking (is that more like a centre back's thinking?) but then he was probably not counting on getting too much assistance from Maxi.
