Reina did nothing wrong. What does Johnson have to do to get a better score? He was unplayable.

Reina - 7 (had virtually nothing to do, and no one would have saved the two goals)
Insua - 4 Ignored by Riera, then we saw why
Agger - 6 The better of the two central defenders, but little to do.
Skrtel - 5 Shaky as per
Johnson - 9 - unplayable, made watching the game enjoyable, his crossing could have been slightly better
Mascherano - 8 - he was quite good, his distribution was fantastic, he even had a couple good shots. Normally he's totally wasted in a game like this, but he was miles ahead of Lucas. Miles.
Lucas - 5 - he never does anything that good, or bad, because he's never really that influential. That's a slight downside on a central midfielder, I think.
Benayoun- 5 - Some interesting interplay on the right but
Kuyt - 4 - Didn't play as a pure striker, but was given a lot of freedom, and should have done so much better.
Riera - 5 - Selfish, wasteful, but still so much a better fit, very sad for him, he looked so gutted to get the injury again.
N'gog - 8 - Very promising display

Subs:

Gerrard - 7 - Not fit. Still miles better. Lucas hasn't picked up even a whiff of Gerrard's urgency.
Babel - 6
Aquilani - N/A

Masher and johnson were good. insua was shit. Lucas is the slowest passer I've ever seen. put some fucking zip on it.

I thought reins should have done better on the second but not seen a replay. He just seemed to swipe at it badly.

He could've won the first header leading up to their 1st goal, Johnson.

I thought Pepe was slow to get back.

I think the ball was travelling at 60-70 mph. How fast can you run - backwards - whilst tracking a ball?

Seriously that was a 1 in a 10,000 shot. A real beauty that will be in the pot at the end of the season for best goal

Just to re-iterate the point I made during the game. Ridgewell is not an EPL standard LB. He's a decent enough CB for Brum but was a liability at LB for anyone even at championship level.

Having said that Johnson exploited his weakness beautifully and made McFadden look stupid too.

The only way that Reina could have got that, is if he were a foot and a half taller. He was out in good position, the same position that saves our ass again and again and again when he plays sweeper. Even in this game that positioning may have saved a goal when he was tight at the edge of the box. Last game he played that header outside of the box to spare our blushes. He was where you should be percentage wise.

i thought Lucas was ok.

Between Mascher and Johnson for man of the match..

[/quote]

I agree. Another promising display I thought

Lucas and Insua were garbage, we looked out of our depth in the centre dispite of a very good Mascherano performance, which clearly reflects how bad Lucas was. Dirk was also awful.

Johnson and Insua were our only players of note, Ngog did fairly well.

I think that's a big understatement Sean. Ok, so he'll rightfully get criticism from some quarters today for the dive, it wasn't pretty but it's not like we do it everyweek like other top sides do. Needs must, he knew we were desperate for a way back into the game and he took it.

Regards his play, the occasional naivety aside, I thought he was excellent and played like a striker. Good movement, good awareness, he could have had a couple of goals or a couple of assists, I thought he had a great game, it's just a shame the result and the dive will tarnish that. For the price, with 4 goals from probably as many starts (this season) he's proving a good squad addition.

Pepe 6

Johnson 10
Skrtel 6
Agger 7
Insua 4

Riera 5
Lucas 5
Mascher 8
Benayoun 6
Kuyt 4

N'Gog 7

Gerrard 7

Only criticism of johnson (and its very picky) is he always tries to take someone on. Needs to mix it up a little. Sometimes hit an early cross to keep them on their toes.

Not a major concern though!

Lucas wasn't garbage mate. If anyone was garbage and he has been for a few games - it wass Kuyt.

A woeful result, and symptomatic of the travails of our season so far: inept defending, lack of penetration, and too many players in a red shirt who make me feel nauseous just watching them.

Reina (6). No keeper likes being beaten from 3 yards, or indeed 35. His defence was ragged but he was way off his line.

Insua (3). You're shit. You're fat. You're slow. You're defensively all over the place. Please fuck off.

Skittles (4). All over the place like a mad woman's piss.

Agger (5). Better than Skittles, but still pretty ordinary.

Magic (8.). The brightest spark in the entire team. Not for the first time. MOTM

Masher (7). Did his usual destructive job, and also delivered a passing display that was most unlike him. Carried the midfield.

Lucarse (n/a). I'm not going to bother marking this mediocrity anymore. It's a fucking waste of time, because he does precisely fuck all.

Riera (5). Made the goal and at least looks like he belongs on the left wing. Still laughably one-paced though, and didn't last long

Casper (4). Largely invisible. Yet again. The sooner we have people fit and Casper can return to the bench, the better.

Kuyt (4). Perspiration was there, as ever. Nothing else was. Needs a rest.

Eggnog (7). One goal. One pen. Still looks like he has only just discovered a football sometimes, and his control was errartic to the point of calamity, but he may just make a squad player yet.

When Neil started a thread about this, he was ridulced for not opening a thread about Babel.

Kuyt has been poor for 1-2 months already - but he's undroppable it seems. He'll raise his game once Torres & Gerrard are back probably. Unfortunately for him, our season is almost over.

Reina - 6

Johnson - 9
Skrtl - 5
Agger - 6
Insua - 4

Masher - 8
Lucas - 7

Riera - 6 Even though a lot went astray I think he easily underlined what we've needed for quite some time now. More players capable of a real man-to-man challenge. Alongside Johnson - who was spectacular - we looked far more dynamic in our attack. To often we've had to rely solely on Benayoun to deliver the goods in that department.

Benayoun - 5
Kuyt 4

Ngog - 8 Great cameo by the young lad. Looks like a striker to me.

Agger's withdrawn from the Danish squad.

Thank god.

He looked nothing like himself last night. One of his most mediocre performances so far in my opinion and he just looked knackered really.

Hopefully the upcoming 2 weeks break will do him a world of good alongside the likes of Gerrard, Riera, Torres, Aquilani, Benayoun, Aurelio, Kelly and Dossena.

The Danish national coach Morten Olsen has revealed it's a precautionary decision as he would've played if there were any points at stake. He's not injured. Just in need of a few days off.

Those at the match would have seen better than me whether it was more down to the movement of others or Lucas's slow speed of thought, but the way he dawdled on the ball time after time was worse than ever yesterday.

Didn't you make a comment in the match thread that he was actually okay?

At that specific moment?

Overall, he did nothing. Asusual.
