About to sign from Augsburg for 4,2 mill £.

#LFC are closing in on a £4.2million deal for FC Augsburg defender Ragnar Klavan. (James Pearce)

Looks like a fantastic cross between maldini, hyppia and cannavaro, throwback to good old defending. Fingers crossed he'll be boss.

He probably has Eyes of the Hawk, Ears of the Wolf, Speed of the Puma and Strength of the Bear too.

Not to agree with Mr Grumpy, but in this case I have to, we're only signing him because Gomez got injured, it's hardly gives me hope that he was a massive priority, despite what Jurgen says.

No one is saying he's a World beater. But a back up for 4 mill £ that has decent experience, gets a good reference from the Bundesliga and player Klopp knows well. Then, it cant really go wrong cant it? If he's not good enough then we havent lost to much financially and if he's good then its a good signing.
He's a back up. End off.

No point in making it out to be anything else.
The ones who do usually have an agenda. Either of being constantly right (although wrong 90% of the time), or just being moany for the sake if it.

Er, someone is. Scroll up.

Based on the performance of our CBs the past few seasons I think people are entitled to get excited about any incoming CB that sounds even half decent.

Yeah, plus we've lacked a proper "brick wall" type of defender since Carragher left. No attempts at drag-backs, or suicidal passes across the pitch.

The fantastic old school "head it out/ kick it out" defending of Leicester last season made me hate our Keystone Cops dickheads even more.

No idea how good this fella is, but he seems pretty no frills.

Oh I like the signing, it's unexciting but makes complete sense; I just thought people were getting a little carried away trying to justify him as something more than that over the last two pages.

Jack Lusby again (I'm surprised at this PoV because I had assumed that Matip-Lovren would be our starting CB pairing):

Whenever possible so far this pre-season, Dejan Lovren has lined up on the right-hand side of Klopp’s centre-back pairing, and this continued despite injury to Joel Matip on Wednesday.

Though Matip, Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez are all out injured at present, it seems likely that Klopp will call upon Matip and Lovren as his right-sided options, with Sakho and Klavan on the left.

Gomez, whose versatility can prove invaluable, could therefore spend 2016/17 as Klopp’s utility man.

I wonder if it'll be that cut and dried who plays on which side. IMO it's entirely possible that Lovren/Matip could be the starting combo if that's what form dictates.
