Rafa confirmed as new Chelsea boss

His "rant" about Chelsea wasn't about board problems, there was one reference about "interim" maybe being a mistake which he believes help lead to what his rant was about, his rant was about the lack of support from supporters, and how they are affecting the team. I beginning to think a lot of people haven't actually listened to it...

It's a fantastic achievement alright.

I'm not totally oblivious to Rafa's antics at different clubs. Sure the man wants control but he has delivered as well.
So to dismiss him despite his record, which is quite good compared to tons of top flight managers, is wrong imo.

Just like you're seemingly dismissing his record over the last year at Liverpool and his stints at Inter/Chelsea ... As I said earlier, I think he can re-create what he had in Valencia with a 2nd tier (i.e. not Barca or Real) club in Spain ...

True

ITs not so much hurt that he joined them. TBH, i was happy because it showed him up for the tit he is. And whilst we can't dictate where he can and can't go, surely people must consider it a spit in the face? The man who cried at hillsborough tributes, the man who loved this club, goes to a club which is the complete antithesis of everything he's meant to stand for. Surely that shows him up as someone who chases the pound, rather than manages for love?

looking at the record in spain as well. He won the league one season with 75 point and another with 77. Both with an 8 point gap.

Is it possible that Real and Barca had awful seasons? In one season real finished 4th, below barca and deportivo, another season barca finished 4th and and real finished 3rd behind deptortivo.

Yes he finished above the big 2, but the big 2 seemingly had shite seasons.

I have, and i heard him say he has a fantastic relationship with Roman.

I expect him to come out when he leaves and say something. If he doesn't then fair enough, but even rafa isn't daft enough to say something whilst in employment

Has any team managed to do that since then?
Nah you're trivilising it. Real had a good team and so did Barca. Valencia however was a strong unit. Baraja, Vicente, Aimar etc they just ticked. I still remember the game against them when they made us look like mugs.

1 year at Liverpool
6 months at Inter
4 months at Chelsea

In a career that spans almost two decades...

You do the math LTW.

Theres no doubt they played well, and they did have a solid unit, HOWEVER it certainly looked that Real and Barca DID perform poorly those seasons. No doubt they had great squads, but great squads mean squat if theres no unity. Rafa cultivated that unity at valencia and in his first few seasons with us, then went about smashing it with his treatment of a popular member of the squad in alonso. Would he have dismantled the valencia team in similar fashion if he stayed with them? Of that i've little doubt

Its his stubborness and his inflexibility thats caused his own downfall.

He's said it before while employed, I'm sure he would say it now if he had something to say. He's not really one to hold back.

In my opinion, everything he said was spot on, but if I were him I would have kept my mouth shut. I guess he's just getting a little pissed off by the fans, prioritising their hatred of what he said a few years ago (as a manager of a different club) above supporting their team.

Anyway, Roman usually doesn't give a shit what the fans think, so they'll probably be disappointed about what happens with this too.

I know he's said it in the past, but its when he's had the support of the fans or knows his position is untenable. At valencia, just won the league and fans oved him; with us he was loved and we hated hicks and gillet, at inter he'd lost the dressing room and the board disliked him..he knew he didnt' have long left.

If he does have a good relationship with roman then he probably wants to make sure he keeps getting paid or acquires any potential bonuses for cups.

Oh, and i totally agree with this and i got into a little tif with the mrs over it. I said all this and she was all like "no, he shouldn't have" etc.

Bulllshit

He managed the treble winners in Italy - and was gone in 6 months with a squad that included the same stars who did everything for Mourinho.

He's had a worse league record than Di Matteo with Chelsea

I think he's ruined his chances to manage Real Madrid in the near future by managing Chelsea. His reputation will again take a pounding. Atleti, Sevilla or a return to Valencia where he can recreate himself and build them up to being a thorn in Barca & Real's sides (I don't know if any club will do what his did because of the 'finance' of La Liga - not sure if this was around his time, but if it was -> his achievement with Valencia was even more incredible). I would hope they give him a chance ... but let's be honest, if you're an owner and you've seen his track record with the boards in his last 4 jobs (Unlike you, they can't ignore how he's left every major club he's managed? Those are part of the numbers you're missing in your equation), would you be worried?

ha ha ... all you other single SCMers - learn from Fabio, don't marry a Chelsea fan! 😉

Rafa was hugely frustrating and shot himself in the foot far too much, however to dismiss him as a failure and a chancer just comes across as an overly try hard attempt at being... I don't know what... cool? Edgy? I don't get it.

Yep, I'd agree. He was a failure in the end, but he was a success for the first few years. Why some can't admit to both parts of that is beyond me.

I'm happy to praise what he did right for us, but i on'y get all defensive about my position when people still mention him as a valid candidate to be our manager

It's ludicrous

Same with almost every argument on here. Nobody ever seems to give any ground in any argument and both sides become equally more ludicrous as they make their claims whilst blaming the other side for it.

Anyone with half a brain can see that Rafa wasn't a total failure, and that he was justified in attacking the board to some degree. Likewise anyone with half a brain can see he left under a cloud and his later signings were largely poor.

Same goes for the Aquaman (complete horseshit / world beater) argument, Suarez (racist) argument, Babel (dopey cunt / world beater) argument, attacking fullbacks etc. etc. etc.

So we can conclude that almost no-one on this site has half a brain.

I like how everyone just casually forgets the two league titles in Spain. I mean Valencia has been a powerhouse since he left.

Agree with you. He's not a shit manage, he's not 'lost it', he's not a nutter, he's not impossible to work with. Another example of the media spouting shite for long enough till everyone believes it's the truth.

Now you see i really don't mind people slagging him off as a manager for his tenure here and at other clubs since, i find it unfair and do not agree. It could easily be argued he has lost his way in his career even his fans have to acknowledge that. The fact that he was slagged in post for me was beyond the pale IMO, but again whats done is done. For the life of me though i think to describe the man as a tit who attended the hillsborough services is just simply bang out of order and smacks of pure self important fucking whopperdom.

Didn't he donate £96,000 to the Hillsborough Campaign when he left? That certainly doesn't make him a 'tit'.

Whats everyones opinion of joey barton? Twat? Cunt? A man who continually voiced his opinions and concerns during the hillsborough trial. A Man at the hearings last year and cried.

Doing something for hillsborough doesn't mean you're not flawed as a human being and above criticism; it means that you have some level of compassion.

Those chelsea fans last years (LAST FUCKING SEASON) who chanted murderers.....Rafa wanted to represent them on the field. He wanted to bring their club success.

The man no doubt did care about hillsborough (as his actions showed.... BUT for me now i have a horrible cynical feeling in my stomach that he played on the supporters emotions whilst here.

Did he use us as a pawn in his fight against the owners?

Probably not, but its a feeling i cannot shake

e

Nobody with any conscience should take the Liverpool job then because a few dick-heads sing disgusting songs about the Munich disaster.

It is a shit argument. Should he refuse to represent the club because of some horrible whoppers, or does he take the club knowing all clubs have their share?

Have we had an ex united manager?

I'd agree if it was someone completely separate from the club, but he was our manager and professed to love us.

They sang it through the minutes silence last year for Hillsborough. I get people would sing it anyway (well, cunts), but people singing it during the silence is an epic cunts move.

Look, I know I'm the only one who feels this way, and this argument isn't gonna change mine, or your opinions.

I appreciate what he did as a manager for us as he helped set us up long term. But as a man, I have my doubts now.

Anyone football person with half a heart would be somewhat emotionally affected by Hillsborough.

The thing is with Rafa he seems a humble bloke to the general public and his love of Liverpool fc and the city is not questionable but at the back of it all there's a professional there who is a control freak who thinks his way is always the right way.

If, after leaving Liverpool, you decided not to work for a team whose supporters had thrown abuse against the club or the city, you wouldn't have many choices left.
