Rafa confirmed as new Chelsea boss

It'd be kind of funny if he didn't get sacked. In a way it'd be like Roman not to. He's never listened to supporters before, so he may listen now.

I can't see him getting a top club side again in a hurry if ever. He is on the decline as far as success goes and as pointed out by Oncey and Ryan has once again fallen out with the owners, the latter being the case for every team he has been with.
If you were an owner you might be prepared to take on this very high maintenance risky Machiavellian character, if he had an impeccable track record, as it stands he is a bit of a butter that last did anything of note eight years ago and even then it was debatable if that was thoroughly due to him.
He needs to look elsewhere, minor international teams like Ireland for instance.

They must make this bloke the new manager. He's the only man Abramovich seems unable to sack. He posed, hilariously, as an Italian translator for Ranieri until he was rumbled (one time on MOTD he let Claudio waffle on for a couple of minutes and then 'translated' it as: 'It was a game of two halves'), but instead of being sacked he got appointed player liaison officer and parades around like he's on the coaching staff, except when he decides to wear his blazer and act like a director. He must have some really fruity blackmail material to stop Roman from bombing him out of the club, so just make it so!!

This cunt's fizzog is the perfect embodiment of Chelsea.

The United fans in Dublin and the Keane lovers in Cork would have heart attacks. The hospitals would be swamped.

Should never have gone there, and lost a lot of my respect by doing so. I think if his kids were old enough he'd take a job in Spain again. Why would he want to continue here, and with who? One of the Athletic clubs, Malaga, Seville, maybe back to Valencia. I'd have fucked off back there years ago if I was him. To dismiss him as shit is disingenuous (not that I'm saying you have Vlad) It may not have worked well for a while but he is still the only manager to lead a non-Barca/Real team to La Liga not once but twice since 2000. His stock must still be high in Spain.
And bless him for giving those vile Chelsea twats what-for. Love that.

I'm glad more LFC fans are finally starting to give Houllier the credit he obviously deserves for the CL win.

But why does nobody ever mention the part he played in getting us to the final again in 2007?

So much for gratitude.

Who's doing that? He was obviously a key 'player' in both cup runs ...

I hope you're willing to re-assess your position about this man as a manager, and realize that what we saw near the end of his reign here, Inter and Chelsea (Robby di Matteo was doing better) are unfortunately what we can expect from him currently. I think the only way he can return to the level of management he displayed at Valencia and the first few years with us is to take a less high profile job for his next assignment .... It will give him his only chance to re-create that confidence and ability he has seemingly lost.

That and diet. There is a quite clear correlation between him being a lean mean winning machine and him being a big laughable fat cunt.

Vlad is doing that.

I'm not willing to reassess anything, and I couldn't give a toss what you hope for.

You hate him enough to start using bold?
Seems like every post you make now has some anti Rafa rant, move on dude.

Sad

Well ... when dealing with such touchy subjects (Rafa, Rodgers etc), one needs to ensure your opinions aren't slanted like Peter has done with me in the past, or you are doing now ("some anti Rafa rant"). I don't know if I should be grateful (that you read all my posts) or just tell you to fuck off ... I will take the higher word and be grateful. So thank you!

RAFA: ...So, here's my idea: we dig a tunnel. Slowly. You jog over to the fence every morning and shake the soil out down your trackie bottoms, OK? This works - I saw it in a movie.
TORRES: I hate it here. God I hate it so much.
RAFA: So HELP me with this! We could be free by April. But we have to start digging now!
TORRES: I'm so unhappy...

Rafa, one of the few managers ever to win La Liga, and not be with the big two. Was Houllier responsible for that too?

Great manager, but he cared too much for the club here, and his passion and honesty shone through. Inter he was on a hiding to nothing. Chelsea as well - you can see the honesty of the man coming through. He's actually no good at these Machiavellian games.

He'll be back, but he needs to take a small club somewhere first. Reestablish his credentials after some bad decisions.

As for Chelsea, what a horrible club.

Well that's a good point about this idea that he's Machievellian. If he were surely he'd be more successful at it?

What I see is someone pretty open and unsophisticated in his belligerence.

Exactly, the lad couldn't hold it in, when Hicks and Gillette were so bad. Read the Cowboys book, and it shines through, the fella cared too much. He was going off his rocker, and it's pretty clear he was solidly trying to protect the club, in his mind. Had we had better owners, it would have taken on a completely different trajectory.

He's made some bad choices: Inter was one, clearly you could see this before he arrived. Maureen was known to poison the well there, and Chelsea was another.

I don't think he's done anything wrong yesterday at all, except go into the "interim" thing. Suck it up, and leave in a month or two. Easy.

20/1 on Rafa being in charge of them next season, could be worth a few quid?

Roman likes to do the opposite of what the fans want, and he could well do it again. And who can blame him, they are the most successful club in England since he took over, so it's obviously working.

It doesn't have to be small - someone mentioned Valencia or Athletico. They're not small clubs but he won't have the ridiculous expectations or following big successes (Chelsea, Inter for both). I think he'd do best in Spain - and I hope he succeeds and brings whatever club he takes there the success he had with Valencia. It's always fun to see that in Spain - considering how rare it is.

I haven't seen any real 'bad' opinions about what Rafa said yesterday, bar those from Chelsea. People are actually commending him on his honesty etc ... If anything, he's made Chelsea look like the nasty club they are.

I dunno. If you scratch the surface, there's clearly still a little bit of the nuance to his experience. Most people would see that, rather than assume he doesn't like being managed. He needs a more stable club with less snakes. Maybe a German team?

Has anyone ever met a chelsea fan thats not a total nobhead? My mate brought one out to the bar the other week, I've never taken a faster dislike to anyone in my life.

The ones I know in the USA are either fairly nice British guys, or Bandwagon American supporters. On a separate note, I have a female customer, soccer player who stopped supporting our club last week, and now supports City. In all my life, I've never seen such a thing. Oh and she moved to Sydney

If MON leaves Sunderland or is sacked, seeing as how they're doing this season after a bright start under him last season, then I reckon Benitez should try out for that job. They don't have big money to spend, but they do spend a bit, and they have great fan support, some decent players to build a team with, a good Academy I think, and lower expectations and pressure. Perfect for a career rebuild.

I'd rather he doesn't do this rebuild in England - He'll succeed at Sunderland, and we don't need another club bothering us in the top 6! 😉

So the Standard are suggesting Avram! Fuck me what a classless bunch of bellends....

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...jose-mourinho-back-in-the-summer-8514741.html

Rafael Benitez will be in charge for Saturday’s game against West Brom but Chelsea are considering replacing him with Avram Grant until the end of the season before bringing Jose Mourinho back as manager in the summer.
Standard Sport understands the Blues are growing increasingly confident of reappointing the Special One as they weigh up their second change at the top this season.
Benitez is on the verge of the sack after an extraordinary rant following Chelsea’s 2-0 win at Middlesbrough last night when he blasted the club for only naming him as ‘interim’ first-team manager after he replaced Robert di Matteo in November.
He also attacked the fans for constantly chanting and displaying banners protesting against him and confirmed he will leave at the end of the season.
Chelsea today insisted it is “business as usual” and that they view his comments as aimed more towards the fans rather than at the board.
Benitez took training today but Chelsea are believed to be ready to make a change with the club in danger of missing out on Champions League football next season.
Standard Sport revealed this week the chances of Benitez making a premature departure were “possible” as concern was increasing at the club over results and his tactics.
Grant is in line to take temporary charge, even though he was far from popular with Chelsea fans after succeeding the Special One in September 2007. The 58-year-old stepped in following Mourinho’s sacking and led them to the Champions League Final eight months later before also being fired.
Significantly, Grant was seen with Roman Abramovich in the owner’s box at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea’s FA Cup replay against Brentford two weeks ago.
But Mourinho, who won five trophies at Chelsea in a three-year spell, is closing in on a dramatic return.
Standard Sport revealed at the start of the month the club were more confident than ever of bringing him back and those hopes have risen further following a series of informal conversations to sound out his interest.
Mourinho is almost certain to leave Real Madrid in the summer after disagreements with several high-profile players and the club’s hierarchy and will attract interest from a host of Europe’s top clubs.
Paris St-Germain and Manchester City are willing to let Mourinho name his price but Chelsea believe they are moving into pole position, despite the need to resolve a number of issues. It is believed Mourinho is willing to work under owner Abramovich once again despite a breakdown in the pair’s relationship leading to his sacking.
Although discussions are at a very formative stage, Mourinho is thought to have indicated he will only return to Stamford Bridge if he can exert greater control over the club’s transfer policy and has also sought guarantees over less interference from Abramovich in team affairs.
Chelsea’s representatives have attempted to be as discreet as possible so as not to undermine Benitez’s position but it is conceivable that last night’s attack on a section of the club’s fans was prompted by his awareness of the club’s pursuit of Mourinho.
Benitez was already under strain before his outburst as the club are in danger of missing out on a top-four finish in the Premier League.
The 52-year-old was told on his appointment that the priority was to qualify for next season’s Champions League. But the team have won just three of their last eight League games and have dropped below Tottenham to fourth in the table, while Arsenal are now just two points behind.
To make matters worse, the club failed to win the Fifa Club World Cup and were beaten by Swansea in the Capital One Cup semi-final.
Benitez has the second worst winning percentage of any Chelsea coach in the Abramovich era at just 52 per cent, with only Andre Villas-Boas, who was sacked almost exactly 12 months ago, below him on 48 per cent.
His record is worse than Di Matteo, who had a 62 per cent win rate, while Chelsea were just four points behind the Premier League leaders (Manchester City) when the Italian departed and trail Manchester United by 19 now.
Benitez’s relationship with many of the players has deteriorated and words were exchanged between him and the squad before training on Monday.
The former Liverpool manager’s treatment of John Terry has come under intense scrutiny as the captain has made just six appearances since recovering from a knee injury and was left on the bench for the 2-0 defeat at Manchester City on Sunday.

I once heard of a guy who supported Man Utd all through the 80's and then switched to Liverpool in the early 90s - defies logic on many different levels, except the mascohistic one.

As an aside wtf is up with these hyper adjectives to describe his 'rant' - It was hardly that but I mean 'Amazing rant', 'Astonishing rant', 'Extraordinary rant'??? 🙄
