Fine, you said you were happy for him, which i fundamentally dont understand

"Chelsea is a big club but I would never take that job, in respect for my former team at Liverpool, no matter what." Rafa Benitez 2007.

So he's a liar and dishonours the city and club he loves.

I wish him nothing but misery while he's there. I hope the fans do walk out. I hope the players revolt.

He said it 2007, Fabs. I think that quote is taken out of context. He was employed by us back then and he basically said that he'd never consider leaving us for Chelsea.
Things change however when you're out of a job for 2 years.

Haha.....confirmed by the man himself

Wow I wonder what Brendan makes of all this.

I'm not sure people remember what it was like to be a pool fan pre rafa. We really were living off past fumes. GED had one amazing season but we were always one tier below. At his pinnacle rafa was our best coach in 20 years so I'll never get the animus. He gave us back our footballing esteem. Players of quality wanted to come to us in numbers. That's gone now. I'd like it back.

Yeah he was political, but who could not be with those eejits in charge (remember Klinsmann coming in as manager?). Some terrible tactical decisions to go with the good ones but when you are with a club for 5 years and you don't win many trophies this is what happens. You have a record and people take sides on it

But this was the thing about him: he mucked up things like Athens but he got us there. He made some terrible signings but we had the money because he was qualifying year after year.

I wish him well only because he's going to gone in May he's just putting himself back in the shop window. As for Chelsea, who has time to hate em. We have to get our house in order first.

Excellent post.

Yes he confirmed it in the presser. But he said, it should be put in the right context.
What if he said the opposite?
What if he said "I'd love to manage Chelsea one day"?
Would you have been OK with that in 2007?

Do people actually care that Rafa said that? So what, people say a lot of things, he said what we needed to hear at the time.

The words "former team" is confusing, given that the quote is attributed in 2007. Probably a case of 6 of 1, he will have said something akin to that while as our manager which is now being blown out of context.

He was a Liverpool employee, and remained so for 3 more years. Completely out of context.
Is that quote actually recorded in audio? Cause I don't understand how he could have been talking about his 'former club in Liverpool' 3 years before he got the sack.

Good catch junior.

That's the edited version

The mail made a list of everything he said that was anti chelsea
