Rafa confirmed as new Chelsea boss

I wish Rafa well. I don't expect him to stay at Chelsea for long and, like localny said, we don't have time for hating Chelsea. At the moment Chelsea and are not our direct rivals and I don't really care who out the big 3 becomes a champion. This season the teams I will be rooting against are Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton - our rivals for top 4.

Looking at the big picture, I don't see any other teams in England besides us trying to build a team that can dominate for years. Man City and Chelsea are just wasting money every year on good players and famous coaches, but as a team they will never rise above a certain level until they get serious about team-building. But that's not likely (even if one of them gets Guardiola), because they are too used to trying to solve every problem by throwing money at it. There is no new Barcelona or AC Milan emerging in England in the near future.

As for Rafa, I hope he turns Torres around (I hate to see a talent wasted) and leaves with his dignity intact. I hope he gets a good reception at Anfield. It's going to be an emotional moment for everybody.

Benitez fucked Pako off because Pako was talking to Chelsea about a job on the sly. But now he's reunited with him. Anyone who thinks the likes of Benitez and Torres are steeped in the ways of our club are deluded. Mere sound bites to ingratiate themselves with their latest 'club', paymasters and fans. They weren't born Liverpool or brought up Liverpool. He can go fuck himself. I hope you and your plastic club get fucking relegated while your new supporters boo you and boycott your games. You sold out because no one else in the footballing world wanted to give you a chance. Short of a bob or two Benitez? No. So why? Feeling unloved? Get to fuck.

Sorry, can we clarify this once and for all? Is Pako Ayestaran back with Rafa or not??? It doesn't sound like it, but we keep getting posts that seem to assume it is!

I love the way with Rafa you don't even have to interview him. You just stick a microphone in front of him and he interviews himself.

He asks very pertinent questions as well.

He does. And the ambiguity of leaving it down to 'pothibilities' is just genius.

Time to update my Rafa hate thread:

And heres my thoughts from that thread.
Nothing has changed:

I hate Rafa benitez. Really REALLY hate him.

I dont like anything about him. From the way he conducts himself in the media to the way he sets out his teams and the way he makes substitutions.
I hate that he has spent 200m and we still are shit unless our best player (who he inherited) plays out of his skin. I hate the fact he bought Gonzales and Bellamy and Morientes and Crouch and then complained that he never has any money to spend.
I hate his notepad and his shitty little pen.
I hate his horrible pre-determined substitutions.
I hate the timing of them.
I hate his endless squad rotation.
I hate the fact that he drops players who are playing well and offers no incentive to any of our squad to bother playing into form (NB-This does of course not include Dirk Kuyt)
I hate the fact that he will play two defensive midfielders (or deep lying ones if you want to be a pedant) in every single away game, even if it is against Fulham, Stoke or Wigan.
I hate his constant sniping at Manchester united that constantly makes him look like a huge fucking tongued dribbling moron.
I hate the way he conducts his business in the press, and that he believes it is a right and proper thing to do.
I hate the way he uses players to get his own way.
I hate the way he treats players as pieces of meat and has no fucking clue about how to actually deal with human fucking beings.
I hate the way he uses the same wank soundbites when we lose 'Its clear we are thinking only about the next game'
I hate his inflexibility.
I hate his snide attitude
I hate the football he has us play.
I hate the fact he will stubbornly refuse to give players a chance when other players are constantly given sooo much leeway to do what they want on the pitch without any sign of them being hooked.
I hate the way he hasnt identified yet that we need a right winger.
I hate the way he has refused to bring any youth players through.
I hate the way he has treated some legends at our club, and some none legends too.
I hate the fact we didnt get to say goodbye to good pros.
I hate the way he sold players and didnt replace them with any better quality.
Mostly i just hate the way he will not accept that he cant do everything his way, and that the premier league takes some winning. He just doesnt seem to acknowledge that the other team will have any say so in the outcome of a match.
I hate the way he has made me feel about my club, and how he has at times made me cringe and be embarrased to tell the people who are laughing at me to fuck off.
The things he has done regarding Keane have made me absolutely disgusted with him.
Theres more to our club than winning and losing games, there is history and family and tradition and pride and respect. We could win all the games and trophies in the world and yet we will never be winners.
I hate the fact hes gone to that fucking plazzy shite club.
I hate the fact that Corby shopping centre wont have a Santa this year.

Just to remind you that of course you followed this initial post up with "oh but I don't really hate him" only to flip-flop back around again now to "really REALLY hating" him.

"Chelsea is a big club but I would never take that job, in respect for my former team at Liverpool, no matter what."
Rafa Benitez 2007.

Where's the respect?

I love how it's frowned upon to dig up 6 month old internet threads to highlight where someone's said something completely absurd, yet it's ok to take quotes from football managers that are 5 years old and stick them on Facebook as if they're gospel.

Hmmmm I didn't put it up on FB, nor have I bought up any Hayden Mullins quotes ... but I get it, it's Rafa.

Ferguson: Rafael Benitez lucky over Chelsea job timing: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20462178

Whiskey nose has an early pop at Benitez.

How long before Benitez cracks this time?

Bit naughty that report. I heard the full version, the context was that DiMatteo was unlucky to get the sack and Benitez may benefit from another man's misfortune. Not Benitez' fault if it happens, would've been the same for whoever took over.

I'm not so sure. I admittedly didn't hear the full version, but even in that extract Ginsoak also has a dig about when Rafa took over from Mourinho at Inter. There's a clear agenda there IMO.

It'll be interesting to see how it works out this time now that Benitez has a squad of equal depth and power.

It's nothing unusual for Ferguson to take a swipe at an opposing Manager especially if he considers him a threat.

Look at the spats he had with Wenger and Mourinho, this time around Benitez has the experience and knowledge of Ferguson's methods to be unfazed.

April 20th is when they pay us at Anfield. Taking bets on where we'll be respectively if the league. Something tells me we'll be in fifth needing a win, and Chelsea will be in 2nd, also needing a win. Our return to the CL will depend on a Rafa v Brendan tactical tussle.

Are they going to pay the whole team, or just Gerrard, to make one of his back-passes ?

Quite. Abramovich wants Pep for next season, and he's no doubt had to pay shedloads to another interim manager whose contract he didn't really want to extend in the first place. Rafa's got till the end of this season and no further IMO, however much he wins meanwhile.

If pep comes. I hear he watches the games in a particular soccer pub on the Upper W Side. No one bothers him. Would be great to chat to him. His kids go to a School nearby.
