Liverpool’s Anfield Road stand opening delayed until October

Liverpool will start the season with a reduced capacity at Anfield due to work overrunning on the redevelopment of the Anfield Road stand.
The new £80million ($101million) stand was due to be completed by early August with 7,000 extra seats boosting the capacity to around 61,000.
However, that deadline will be missed by contractor Buckingham Group and Liverpool are now resigned to a phased opening process which is set to be completed in October.
The first home game of the season against Bournemouth on Saturday, August 19 will go ahead as planned but the upper tier of the new stand will remain closed for that fixture. As a result, Anfield’s capacity will be reduced to around 51,000 – down from the existing number of around 54,000.
All season ticket holders in the upper tier of the new stand will be accommodated elsewhere in the ground. The plan is that the capacity will be incrementally increased up to 61,000 by the October international break.
Liverpool managing director Andy Hughes said: “This has been a hugely ambitious and complex construction project right from the start. Unfortunately, the upper tier of the Anfield Road Stand is not quite ready for the Bournemouth game.
“The main contractor, Buckingham, will therefore work with Liverpool City Council’s licensing team to deliver a phased opening process.
“As with any complex major construction project of this scale, there are always so many variables and challenges along the way.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we work through the next few weeks with Buckingham to complete this programme and we can’t wait to have this great new Anfield Road stand fully open for supporters.”

That's going to cost the contractors. In a contract of this type, there will be penalty clauses for lost income if it's not completed in time. The contractor will probably end up paying us for lost ticket sales and ancillary revenue (e.g. reduced retail / catering from there being fewer people at the ground on match days).
So it shouldn't affect us too much financially, and therefore shouldn't impact our ability to complete our transfer spending programme.

There goes the 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of getting a ticket.

Imagine living next to the stadium...fucking hell.
We won't be able to rebuild the other stands, I guess?

If only we had owners like the Glaziers, who we could complain about...

... but gave our manager 200M to spend every summer transfer window.

Utd fans for you....they never quite know what they want.....hilariously undecisive who's to blame for what at that club.

Probably just had enough of moaning about the players and managers, the only guys for left for them to have a whinge about are the Glazers.

I'm thinking for safety concerns, which of course is paramount, wouldn't it be a bit of a concern to have 5000 + the away fans seated in the lower tier with an uncomplete cladding/roofing? Perhaps closing off the entire stand would be better for all?

I think it requires new transport infrastructure, house purchasing and rerouting of roads to go any bigger than we are now. I'm not expecting any further progress with the stadium under FSG's ownership, TBH. We'll likely get increased safe standing areas as a short term measure.

Yeah the massive H&S presence won't have thought about that. Get in touch.

I'm sure they may've given it "thought", but doesn't always mean they've done their jobs from a safety's perspective properly...otherwise we'd live in a world where there were never any injuries/casualties as a result of technical issues would we?

You're an Anfield "insider" aren't you? So I'm sure you can share with everyone the long report.

Planes being allowed to take off with technical faults & thousands of lives died which could've easily been prevented - Where was the H&S inspections there?

Newly built rides at theme parks, people allowed to get on them despite technical faults and as a result dozens of people left with serious injuries and amputations - Where was the H&S inspections there?

& yes you've guessed right, there have also been injuries (some fatal) due to H&S neglect on stadiums/arena's at sporting events.

Exactly. All falls under the same category my man.

Then your "H&S specialists" are left dumbfounded and unable to explain the cause once it's too late......"Oh, but we accounted for every square inch, we definitely did.....look check the papers, it was even signed off on and everything......."

It was just a thought, I'm sure it'll all be fine in the end.
