One of their own? Bruce was a Geordie who turned down being boss of Newcastle and became Sunderland manager and said this
Bruce said: "Managing Newcastle has never been my dream. This opportunity at Sunderland has everything I want – the infrastructure, the fanbase, an ambitious chairman and an ambitious new owner. I don’t need anything else – I have everything here. Everything you look for as a manager is here at Sunderland.”

Once he became the manager of Newcastle, Bruce: “To be given the opportunity now, I'm like any other Geordie. I've lived the dream.
Don't get me wrong. I don't blame him for taking the job at Sunderland. And I don't blame him for accepting the Newcastle job. I don't expect any kind of loyalty nowadays from players or managers. 99% of the managers and players, whether it is Bruce or Torres or Suarez, are self-serving assholes who will use fans emotions and "I am one of your own" spiel to protect their job and be ready to discard them in a second when a better opportunity arises for their career.
So, don't expect to hide under "one of our own", "Lifelong Newcastle or any other club fan" bullshit.
