Pre Match Pre Match - Everton (A) - Weds 19:30

Hopefully trent remembers he is a defender. Trent plays well, we will win (For Trent to play well, everyone else has to too)

Good pre-match presser from the boss, as per usual:

1. Trent partially trained yesterday and “we’ll see if we take him to the game or not.” Doesn’t seem to be ready to start anyway.

2. Gomez probably has a recurrence of the same injury, although they are “still assessing.”

3. Said going out against Plymouth was “unacceptable” and regardless of the result the performance was “far, far below our standards.” Basically looking for a reaction from the team.

4. Some explanation of the lineup vs Plymouth - Jones was supposed to have started, but felt unwell on the day of the match and Nunez became a dad a couple of days before and came back from Spain late. Combined with the Gomez injury it left the team unbalanced and weaker than planned, but still doesn’t exuse the performance.

5. Some nice words about Moyes and atmosphere at Goodison; said that last time there the ref blew for 11 fouls in the first 10 minutes and 10 of them were for Everton. You can be sure Arne will be counting!

Trent usually looks rusty in his first game back after an injury - would not risk it in the derby. I think Slot resting @Bradley in the FA Cup game makes it pretty clear he will play against Everton.
It's a decision that we could have done with really, because they would just target him. That said, I hope Bradley is mature and doesn't let the occasion go to his head. I know he's a lad who likes to put his stamp on the game, but sometimes in derby atmosphere's, those kind of emotions can get carried away and that's where we see bad challenges, cards etc.

Just thinking about how much piss will be boiled if Nunez plays an absolute blinder

After the game there's either going to be a lot of smug faces or some will be throwing themselves off the pierhead into the Mersey (to compound matters they'll wash up next to Ev's new ground) !

An early goal or two for the reds to quieten the crowd would be fantastic. We know the kind of football that's coming our way, which isn't much different than what we would have got from Dyche. It will still be direct and with the aim of breaking from a defensive block, but with more unpredictability than Dyche's team. Moyes introduced 3 CBs with wingbacks against Spurs so it will be interesting to see if he replicates that against us.

We got dominated at every set piece and cross last season. Can’t let that happen tonight.

No injuries please.
Arguably more important than a win.

I wonder what the order of preference to avoid injury is and what’s the tipping point in terms of willing to drop points to prevent injury hypothetically.

I’d go

Salah (willing to lose or draw)
Virgil (willing to lose or draw)
Gravy (willing to lose or draw)
Konate (willing to lose or draw)
Gakpo
Dom
Macca
Becker
Diaz
Jota
Robbo
Bradley
Jones
Trent
Simi
Nunez
Harvey
Cheisa

Have a feeling Darwin is scoring tonight. New kid bounce and fired up by the crowd. We can at least hope.

I want to see total domination from minute 1, none of this feeling out bullshit then the next minute you know it there’s an hour gone on the clock and it’s still 0-0. None of that bullshit. Jump on them like wild fucking animals, suffocate them. Leave them mentally scarred and traumatised. Everyone in that stadium bar the away fans need to suffer, unable to sleep until their next game.

BBC Sport is littered with their fans mouthing off about us losing the league there last season and that they are going to sing that all night tonight and that they think they will stop us winning the league again tonight.

Pin it on the fucking wall.

Better yet, extend the parade route from their new Tesco Superstore stadium all the way down the dock road.

Perfect timing. Blizzard swept in, all government offices closed, zero visibility in town. "Working" from home this afternoon.

Save my holiday/sick time for another day.

View out the window. Normally there's a town and a bay there.
