Pre Match - Chelsea (H) - Saturday 17:30

We should be frantically trying to get in a new signing before the window closes but we are more likely to take Origi off the shop window with this news.

I think we'd have probably lost were it not for the red card. We all knew beforehand that Chelsea are really strong at the moment but we were at home and I think we needed to put on a better display than that even if we didn't get the win. We looked jaded and out of ideas.

As has been said, the solution lies in the transfer market but I worry we've let a few too many opportunities pass us by now.

dunno about losing mate. They’re a top top side hut we were making chances. Maybe they were favourites but even before we equalised I felt it was still wide open.

I haven’t joined the hysteria around our lack of transfer activity, but it is incredibly poor that when our #9 goes off injured we have zero back up.

Jota has done a job there, but he’s clearly a Mane / Salah backup (and looking like Mane replacement if Sadio doesn’t sort it the fuck out sharpish). You can’t tell me that this transfer committee hasn’t got a shitload of options on file, so either we’re saying it’s impossible to spring any of them out of their clubs (not one single one), or the owners simply aren’t prepared to finance a deal and the stuff being released in the press by Klopp and journos is just a pure smokescreen to calm down the fanbase. This cross your fingers and pray thing did not play out very well last year with our CB situation.

Draw was a fair result today. Very even game in the first half and Hendo should have scored.

Definitely a pen. I think the ball would have gone in if James didn't flick the ball out with his arm and so a red too.

We're still not at our best yet coming into the game and I would have taken a draw before the game. So I don't feel that disappointed about not taking the three points. Chelsea are incredibly well drilled now.

I disagree that we would have lost, yes they were dangerous but we were confident enough to play a high line - if anything that sending off hindered our chances and yet again exposed our limitations, and it definitely would have given them more confidence having held out against us with 10 men.

Some say we need a striker, some a midfielder, what we need is that one X-factor player that by himself will be able to break through those dense defensive opposition lines by himself using necessary dribbling skills. Otherwise it is just too fucking predictable. We really are desperate for such a player - and I though Jota was just shit today and not that involved in this game at all. Robbo was shit with his crosses and corners today, and as for those who are moaning at Mane, you could say the same for Salah, and the rest of the team. At least Mane in bursts try to beat his man a number of times, just fucking take them on - in my lifetime view of defenders they are usually the big guys on the pitch and slow to turn etc.

Really fucked off with what I saw in the 2nd half today, you may argue its early days but the way I see it - in our recent history where we have one our first 10 or so games then we usually have by May enough in the tank and chance to win the league.

On a side-note I really enjoyed watching Van Dijk play against Lukaku. It was a defensive masterclass at times. Matip too except for that one time he got rolled over.
A Like for the VvD comment - he was ace.

But not Matip, he had a relatively poor game by his standards. Poor passing into midfield, and runs in which he got caught out, 3 or 4 times left us defending a Chelsea break, plus the roll. Yes he did good things, the block and dispossessing or getting ahead of Lukaku for example, but he got lucky, Mount had him on toast.

I missed the first 20 minutes, so can’t do ratings this time. But top 3 should surely be:

VVD
Elliott
Salah

Kind of disappointing to see that Klopp didn’t trust Keita to play in this game at all, despite him being the most match-fit of our midfielders. We faded badly in the 2nd half and Thiago was not a solution.

I'm not sure about the top 3, but Mane, Bobby and Robbo were the worst. The rust on Robbo showed.

The whole world and his dog knows that we need to sign an attacker. Find Klopp's combative attitude at press conferences about this also slightly putting off.

I mean our goalkeeper outscored our reserve striker last year, and Klopp comes out with this 'who do you think can do better than what we already have'. It's patronising.

It's one thing to accept as a manager that the board don't have the funds to sanction a move, but you don't have to pretend that we don't need anything . 3rd summer in a row, and we've barely made a proper plunge in the market.

Ultimately, this is a squad of amazing players. But when we look back at this time, we'll say they didn't win as many trophies as they should have. And it'll only be because we didn't freshen things up at the right time.

Totally agree with the summation in the last paragraph. But not on your take on Klopp ... he's supporting the players we do have until such time as we can get in better. Nothing wrong with that, he has to work with what he has and bolster their confidence, I don't find it patronising in the slightest.

As per usual, Mane got doubled up on and had very little space to do any damage.
Chelsea are very disciplined, and with the three back line, and wing backs, they just take him out of the game when he is out wide.
Mo also created very little. They are a good team.

They came with a lower half of the table attitude. Back 5 with 2 sitting and lump it forward to a flat track bully. What made it more difficult is these are top top players doing it and not the usual cloggers that try it against us.

We really struggle breaking teams down who pack the defence.
Would take some cojones but we should just keep giving them the ball to entice them out, open the game up and counter. Given our numerical advantage we should be more likely to successfully defend and then create opportunity.

I'd like us to shoot more from outside the box. Arguably our best chances in the half yesterday was fabs effort and hendos
