I thought it is getting very apparent now that Gini is just going through the motions. It's like his body reacts but his mind just isn't there anymore. The body language is telling and in some parts he was just strolling about.

I think a part of him wants to stay, but we just can't pay him what he wants. With the situation developing at Barca, his future is up in the air. Not a good situation to be at his age.

I agree.

His pressing is noticeably half a yard slower and his reaction to the Allison goal (helping us getting CL) kind of was like "well, I'm not going to be here next year anyway".

In the debate about our most important player, quality wise Allisson, Virgil and Mo are in the mix but because of his presence, which cannot be underestimated, he is right up there.
Southgate was an idiot to choose Kane ahead of him as England captain

It's just clear what a fucking leader he is .. and the respect he demands, from his team and rival teams alike.
If @doctor_mac was still alive, he'd be posting one of his favorite GIFS - where one of the hardest men in the PL just backs off from a Hendo stare

Bit harsh.. we should look back fondly at his time here. Premier league + Champions league.

Would I be happy if he was a sub versus palace? Yes.. but not 'do one'. He deserves a warm send off.
Nah, his attitude in a crucial period for the club stinks.

Gini absolutely deserves a warm send-off. He is entitled to run down his contract, and seek a better payday if that's what he wants.

He's been a great pro, a terrific member in the dressing room and played a vital vital part in our most successful period in 30 years.

I'll always remember him fondly.

At this point however, it's probably best for both sides that he moves on. We need some new blood in midfield.

Agree.

That first goal against middlebrough comes to mind.

And the 2 goals against Barca.

He was also ever present when our midfielders were dropping like flies.

He was an important part of our squad over the past 5 odd years, contract impasse or not.

I’m not sure of you can really read that much into just the fact he wasn’t jumping up and down like the rest of us when Alisson scored.
He looks really tired and leggy lately and was a bit pants yesterday, he’s played over 37 games and I assume that’s more than any of our current midfield lot.
He’s been a great player for us and has scored some massive goals in a defining period for LFC, not going to forget that because lately he looks a man leaving.

It’s amazing how quickly some major sentiment changes on here, 6 months ago, it was sell Salah because he’s a greedy wanker and Mane is a good bloke and better player. Now let’s fck off Mane, cos he’s done and possibly older than what it says on passport.

It’s been a crap 18 months for all, yet Gini has always been available like Mane and Robbo.

25 million buy with a great song, he deserves a massive LFC send off for his 5 yrs with us.

His career for LFC will be fondly remembered, lots of very important goals along with being key to the system that brought him #6 and #19. He has given up at the end of this season though which is a shame as it is whilst he is wearing the captain's armband and I would hope that he was bringing his best every game whilst captaining this club.

He's truthfully my favourite player. Love the guy to bits. He's such a throwback to the old school footy player. No nonsense. No fucking about. Happy to knack someone if needed. Eager as a 17yr old given a free pass to the Reeperbahn. Captain of the Scots. Properly loves the Reds. He ticks every single box. My favourite clip is when he stepped up and promised Mane he'll sort out the guy who had just snidely scythed him down. See below clip in case you've not seen it.

Robbo's fab. But I also love Hendo popping in to the Messi spat, just quietly stepping into the greatest player ever, to say "Nope. Not here, son.".

I turned 49 a couple of weeks back, and I seriously think that Hendo might rival even Graeme Souness as the best leader we've had in my lifetime.

What did Klopp say about Mane?

1 time he shows disrespect but don’t forget the other 99 times he was really respectful or words to that effect.

Same goes for Gini.

He was poor in the last game but nevertheless he’s more than done his part in the past few seasons.

Gini has been fucking brilliant for us. The attitude to him from some is truly bizarre. The idea that he’s not trying or doesn’t care is also absolute fucking shit.

Fucking brilliant?
He's had fucking brilliant moments - starting with the goal that got us into the CL (I think against Newcastle?).
But he's struggled to impose himself in many games.
I know he's been key this season, as @Whaddapie says, just because he's there and was holding our midfield together which was ravaged by the CB mess and CM injuries.
However, his celebration after Allisson's goal was very very very very weird.
How can you explain that? A guy the whole team loves, scoring a massive goal and everyone is going insane like it's the final of the CL and Gini doesn't even lift his arms, just jogs over as if it was a given in the 95th minute. Give me a good explanation, and I'll run with you but I just can't think of one meself.

Be honest, 30 years from now, I doubt I (or you will) remember too much of Gini? He was reliable and steady but not a player you'd tell your grand kids about.

I'm desperate to have grand-kids, so I can tell them all about the role Nigel Spackman played in the 87/88 all conquering team.

Nah - I'll tell my grandkids how he wheeled away after a great header from Shaq touching the badge as we made the greatest comeback in CL history.
And how he was pissed with Klopp who didn't start him.
He's not Bobby, or Mane, or Salah, or Hendo but he's part of one the greatest teams in our illustrious history and he was an ever present.

Happy belated birthday Derek and many of 'em.

Souey edges it for me, but the way Hendo's made the armband his own is brilliant too.

Who here is over 60, with grandkids, and remembers the 88 team? Which players do you reminisce about? Are players like Venison, Spackman, Houghton, Ablett, and Tanner vivid in your memories?
