Post Scum Thoughts

In the October / November months with Firmino / Coutinho / Mane it was truly excelling in my opinion. Sure Suarez would have made it better, but Suarez makes everything better.

Well, obviously hence "Suarez type".

Firmino is a Suarez type broadly speaking and yeah when the stars align we look great (though I still felt during that period that there was another level we had yet to reach).

It's like a couple of summers ago it seemed to pretty much be a case of "Sanchez or bust". Are we still in a position of having to find that very rare kind of player or are we able to adjust?

Klopp did to an extent by buying in the pace and goal scoring talent of Mane, which gave us a much needed extra dimension albeit on the wing rather than up front.

Come the summer he will need to do more of the same particularly with the Sturridge and Origi questions looming large.

Origi will get more time to develop as it looks like Klopp rates him quite highly and he's young.
Sturridge on the other hand will probably be off.

It's interesting to look at the top teams and top strikers, and what their attributes are, or how the team is built around them

One common attribute seems to be workrate

Someone should start one.

Should ban Tyler for that " is it in the script, is it written in the stars" bs..

I hope he gets the record in some low-profile game nobody is watching or cares about

Sky seemed desperate for it to happen in that game, understandably, but the pre-match media coverage seemed to be a general United/ Mourinho love-in too

The Guardian on Saturday being a good example

There is no requirement to have a 'post match thread'. They are an invention of terminally dull posters who can't give a thread a proper title, but they have caught on.

And i want to be clear - there is absolutely no responsibility on the Mods to start these dull meandering pointless fucking threads.
Jesus. I bet you are the life and soul at parties .. or not.

You want more threads then complain when the Post Match threads are posted and prove to be amongst the most popular threads week in week out ? You are completely out of touch with the majority of the board. The board struggles along as it is .. often with only 4 or 5 threads added to a day. And here you are moaning that one of the most popular are 'dull meandering pointless fucking threads'.

For a supposedly intelligent man you are as fucking thick as two short planks at times.

I have never met you @Frogfish but you always come across as a good bloke.
I know he doesn't need me to defend him but I can assure you having met him on numerous occasions and despite his sometimes abrasive online character, Ross is totally sound.

It's the internet mate. I imagine most of the lads on here are sound in 'real life'. Unfortunately when we can sound off without fear of repercussion everybody can get a little out of line, or abrasive, on occasion .. and naturally that includes me from time to time 😀

Why would it be the mods responsibility to create a post match thread? Surely anyone can just do that.
I think it's usually Red Ninja who starts them ? Anyway it was a dumb ass thing to say regardlessss. Gimme a break though it was at about 05.00 - 06.00 in the morning here and I get a little tetchy without sleep !

Because that happened very late.

I was told on Saturday night - via a WhatsApp group of LFC supporting media/ marketing/ agency types - that Henderson and Origi were starting, and Coutinho was not.

As usual, I'm happy to share when I hear some possibly inside information from well-connected fellow Reds. It's a pleasure, in fact.

To be fair though, that sounds like the fucking worst whatsapp group ever.

There's no video there Hansern??

Anyway, I was interested by people's selections in the Man of the Match thread. Of course Lovren, Ming, etc played very well - but I was surprised no one selected Lallana or Firmino, especially the former - who was superb. Didn't let Carrick - who's been United's best player for the last 2 months - get a kick, and he - along with Firmino - pressured the life out of Unite'd back 4/5 all day. Those two press better than any other duo in the premier league.

I guess those performances from those two are now accepted - as opposed to Mignolet's - but they were both fantastic.

Dont think its been uploaded yet mate, as it was just on SKY now. I'll have a look later.

That Carra/Souness altercation was very strange and uncomfortable.

It seemed a fairly innocuous debate about Pogba, but Souness looked almost murderous. Carra is obviously well able to look after himself, being from Bootle and all, but that exchange illustrated the difference between 'hard' and slightly psychotically unhinged.

I'm amazed Souness hasn't battered anyone while he was managing

Thierry Henry: "What Firmino does on the field is outstanding.Yesterday I was in awe of what he was doing."

Hahahahaha Brendan. Suck a fucking fat one.

That's nice to hear. Has Thierry Henry ever scored less than 6 goals at this point in a Premiership season?

I think Firmino's been quietly shit for about 6 weeks but he was much sharper yesterday. Hopefully gets back into form again now.

Didn't he have a proper dust up with Bellamy when they were both at Blackburn. To be fair Bellamy is exactly the sort of personality that would set himy off. There's always been something a bit Franco Begbie about Souey he seems to take any form of disagreement as a direct confrontation.

Frank Begbie. That's spot on.

Hmmm, this is quite the quandry the forum faces itself with... Who to agree with?

Brendan's view on Firmino yesterday:

I appear to be the only person who doesn't understand what he brings to the team, so I struggle to rate him, because I don't know what I'm looking for. It's clearly not goals, because he doesn't score many, but that's no secret and everyone knows he doesn't. Is it creating chances? Er, didn't do that either. I know! It's running and working hard

Or Thierry Henry - arguably the greatest player in the history of the premier league, and a man who should know a thing or two about how a forward should play on Firmino yesterday:

"He was outstanding yesterday. I WAS IN AWE OF HIM."

Which way will the forum side here? Cripes, such a tough one.
