'The next Suarez' might not exist but I'd be optimistic on unearthing someone with similar qualities on the cusp of improving markedly under Klopp. If that's the case, we'd have every chance of buying a 21-24 year old with tons of potential not yet realised under the right tutelage / system.

We've a decent recent track record of doing so re attacking players and strikers (Coutinho, Suarez, Torres, Sturridge, Mane etc).

Yeah, I agree with all of that.

Another frustrating Wijnaldum game where he is impactful, energetic and again gets in great positions to shoot but fluffs his lines. Should have scored the winner at the end.

It feels like the system we have under Klopp is fairly similar to the one under Rodgers in that it can't truly excel without a Suarez type up front.

I guess it's inline with the way modern football is going on the whole but it does feel a little restrictive.

They are not really similar as Rodgers' system was basically 'give it to Suarez'.

And then Suarez left.

Well neither of us knew about TAA so even if he's right he's wrong

Because that happened very late.

I was told on Saturday night - via a WhatsApp group of LFC supporting media/ marketing/ agency types - that Henderson and Origi were starting, and Coutinho was not.

As usual, I'm happy to share when I hear some possibly inside information from well-connected fellow Reds. It's a pleasure, in fact.

By Suarez-type do you mean a hard-working player who operates across the front line in a less fixed position? There aren't that many of those are there?

Sanchez is a bit similar. Maybe Firmino too, minus the goals.

Kane, maybe?

When you play with one striker, or a false nine, or whatever, in order to ensure the midfield and defence are not overrun, that striker usually needs to be mobile. Although...Ibrahimovic.

So. You can't say you were right about the team when you weren't. I mean you even said you only mention frim in 1% of your posts when you'd already said you mentioned him twice in fifty odd. Which you must have gone back and counted.

Carry on. It's all pretty funny.

Come on Mods - there should be one of these pronto after every match - not a continuation of the match thread.

There is no requirement to have a 'post match thread'. They are an invention of terminally dull posters who can't give a thread a proper title, but they have caught on.

And i want to be clear - there is absolutely no responsibility on the Mods to start these dull meandering pointless fucking threads.

Are you smoking meth at this time of the day? You seem addled.

I said I'd heard rumours that Henderson and Origi were going to play and Coutinho wasn't. That's information worth sharing, and because nobody else had anything concrete, I thought I would.

You seem outraged that I didn't know Clyne wasn't playing, or the exact formation we were going to use. Most odd.

I'm just pointing out that in your Partridge rant you said you got the team right and you mentioned frim 1% of the time, neither of which are true.

Oh, I see. You're annoyed about how many times I mentioned Firmino, and demand exact accuracy?

And if I can't get THE ENTIRE team right, I shouldn't pass on information about the much-discussed return of Henderson, Origi playing over Sturridge and Coutinho not starting on a Saturday night, despite NOBODY else having anything more comprehensive, even on the actual day of the match?

That's hardly fair on the many Forum users who do not have access to such information - because they live abroad or don't have any genuine connections to the club or media sources or whatever - but even if it may not always be accurate (sorry Woland!) I've always enjoyed the chat, gossip and inside information from the very few people on here who do occasionally have access to it.

I recall there used to be someone who got the team-sheet right fairly regularly.

We shouldn't forget that Wijnaldum had two chances to win us the game. Firmino had a chance as well.

Can Rooneh get banned for trying to cripple Milner? Or doesn't the England captain get that kind of sanction?

It was a bad challenge, but I don't think it was overly malicious or that he tried to "cripple" him, so it doesn't merit a ban.

In the October / November months with Firmino / Coutinho / Mane it was truly excelling in my opinion. Sure Suarez would have made it better, but Suarez makes everything better.
