Skrtel is the senior CB so if the line needs to be moved up you'd expect him to do it, you don't want any CB to be moving up field by himself and Sakho is in his first season here so why expect him to make the call. It is not a call that an individual makes, it's as a team or not at all. And since SG is right there if moving the line forward is what was wanted then don't you think he'd have told them ? Or should have ?

it's just weird with johnson and the defensive side of things at times , he's so complacent and half hearted . His legs for it look to be gone also , like he spends himself with the attacking . I wonder if these mysterious injuries have finally taken their toll.
And i'm 100% with you with the sadko and skrtel opinion . Like with agger , it seems they need a carragher in there telling them what to do . And i still will never trust skrtel and the way he commits and dives in , it's always costing us .

I think the truth is our whole defence is decent but flawed. Pretty much every single one of them.
If I could get my money back on Sakho I'd definitely take it.
Agger has just as many problems. I'd rather he was sold.
Johnson and Flanagan are both far from perfect.
Even Skrtel is totally inconsistent from one season to another.
It's all a bit of a mess.
Again, he's an 18m centre back who once captained the biggest club in France. He shouldn't need his hand held, nor should Skrtel. But evidence has shown the difference one good centre back that can organize the defence can make when Carra came in second half of last season. Neither of them are leaders and it's a massive problem. I'll say it again, Sakho and Skrtel played 17 games together and have one clean sheet.
And no, it's not Stevie's job to tell the centre backs where to position themselves every time there's an attack. He can instruct them in a general sense, as can Rodgers, but not every time we're facing some attackers.
As I've said a few times, we could do with a completely new back five. We could improve on all them. Our defence is shit, evem taking into consideration we're so attacking.
