Thought Mignolet was very solid today as well. Stood up to Leicester's high balls and made a crucial save from Vardy which would have brought them back into the game again.

I literally know nothing about Wijnaldum. Never saw him play at Newcastle, heard he'd scored a bunch of goals from midfield.

I suppose my question really revolves around the fact we spanked >£30M on him. Despite the mental inflation in the transfer market, that kind of money is still big boy territory, so when you spend that kind of money on someone you expect them to be fairly fundamental to the way you play, or fill a desperately needed position or something.

£23M + 2M in add-ons. That's not bad for a player entering his prime who scores 1 in 3 from midfield (whether it's AM or CM).

Mignolet has had a really good start to the season. He's been unlucky with a majority of the goals conceded

Perhaps manninger is undoing all of achterbergs work

I believe Wijnaldum has a few assists allready while he settles in and find his place in the team... I was not overhappy we got him but he looks a major improvement on Allen and will come useful back up when Can is back. We score four goals, creates enough to score 4 more and people have a go at our midfielders not being attacking enough.... It certainly is a weird fucking world....

Oh, I thought we spent loads more.

He's more of an attacking mid?

Just wondering why we spent so much money on a position that seems less of a priority than others.

I guess the idea is more goals from midfield then?

I forgot we sold Allen. It's making more sense now

Firmino's best game for us...and not just for the goals. Mane is such a menace...he reminds me of Suarez in many ways. And I thought Lallana, Henderson and Matip were superb today. As was Lucas apart from the obvious.

Great atmosphere in and around the ground although the guy a few seats along from me insisted on banging on the Kop wall every few seconds...it was a bit like being next to one of those pricks with a drum at Crystal Palace.

He was generally in the middle 3 of a 4-3-3 for PSV but Newcastle chose to mainly play him at LW. He's a good player and can play CM although he did alway look better pushing forward from there for me.

We were great today - scoring at will almost and creating 'Clear Cut' chances when we went forward.' I hope we can keep it up.

As for Lucas - I thought he was good today despite that little problem but I can forgive him for that as he was called upon in an emergency situation - and also we won the game. But I tell you what - if out other defenders had his brain - we would never be talking about our fragile defense.

I am so happy.

I think right now Henderson is playing in Emre Can's position (defensive pivot), Wijnaldum is playing in what should be Henderson's position (a more advanced midfielder linking defense and attack) and Lallana is playing in what should be Wijnaldum's position (a goal-scoring midfielder who likes to make runs into the box). It's not working out too badly either, but I'm very curious to see how this puzzle settles once Emre is back.

I think Henderson started the season poorly, but he was very good in the last 2 games; Wijnaldum is still playing within himself and trying to stay disciplined rather than expressing himself on the pitch (still, 2 assists in 4 games is not a bad return); and Lallana is playing so well that he is making himself almost undroppable.

Sounds about right.

I like Lallana where he is at the moment. He's doing well.

I know you'll have all seen the interviews with Klopp giving out for songs and stuff but I got tix for my lads today and one was right behind Klopp... And when we came out of the ground he said it was hilarious how when the kop started singing his name he went running over towards the kop freaking out shouting SHUT UP FUCK OFF and then a few seconds later Leicester had a great chance and Klopp was shouting at the kop SEE... FUCKING SHUT UP.

The shape of this is beautiful.

It does highlight the questions about wijnaldum though. He didn't see a lot of the ball and was relatively static (if i read it right). Hope it's just a settling in period as he looks quite silky on the ball.

I was in a similar position with Mane - didn't know who he was, hadn't seen him play. But the first time I saw him against Barcelona it made sense - he looked exciting, pacy, dynamic. The more I see him, the more it makes sense. He offers us something we didn't really have before.

So far, from the limited amount I've seen, Wijnaldum doesn't seem to make the same kinda sense. The position he plays in didn't really seem like a priority - whether that be CM or AM (I don't actually know what position we've bought him for, hence the question about what Klopp's idea for him is) - and at the minute he doesn't look any better than what we've already got. I dunno, he kinda seems like the sort of £7M squad player Rafa would buy each year, except instead of costing £7M he cost fuckloads.

But I fully accept that I hardly watch any football and haven't got a clue about most players anymore. So my question is genuine - what is he for? What are the qualities he possesses that are (hopefully) going to make this deal worthwhile? Or have we spanked loads of money on someone who's just a bit meh?

He will come good. I have no doubts.

Look, he is already a big upgrade on Allen. He pops up all over the pitch linking plays. He has that bit of composure and skill on the ball which makes him hard to deal with for the opponents. He hardly loses the ball. He makes energetic forward runs not unlike Lallana's and they are always measured ones. He turn up at the back to defend as well. He runs his ass off every game. That and it's only 4 games into the season.

He's quality, the signs are good that he is not overwhelmed by it all. He doesn't need to score in every game to be quality.

I do not think Can is a definite starter. At least no longer. And Grujic, saw some asking for him to start. He is nowhere near ready. He would have been slaughtered if he had played yesterday.

Had golf at 7am so didn't stay up to watch the game at 230am.

Just watched the full match now.
Ming while showing good fight to stay on and try and stay as no1 needs dropping imo. He just creates nervous tension at the back.

All of players feel it.

Milner was quietly effective.

Matip was superb. (I'm really liking his positioning and composure on the ball)

Lucas, shit touch for the goal aside was superb at cb, always took up great spots to give the player on the ball an easy out ball, his passing was forward and direct for a cb and he made some wonderful interceptions. I'm happy with him there for now. Great character to play so well after that mistake. I'll never understand the hate he gets.

Henderson played his best games in months. Maybe even a year. all over the pitch and great passing. Loved it. Hopefully his injury is behind him now.

Mane I actually thought didn't have his best game, a lot of his touches were heavy and his passing was off, but if on an off day he scores one, sets up another and provides two great chances then I'll take it everyday. What a signing!!

Sturridge - looked really good, made some brilliant dummy runs to create space, most notably for the opener and looked to link up. Hope he keeps this up as he gives us another dimension at home.

Friminio - sensational control of the football, worked hard, played some beautiful football and took both goals so well.

I just wish Gruic got some game time, otherwise massive thumbs up.

Big game Friday, a win and fans will get carried away, a loss and it will klopp out again.

Can see a draw myself.

Stewart is boss. When he came on he was given about five hospital balls to deal with by our dipshit defense and sorted each one out no probs. I reckon he should start, he can cover defensively better than any other midfielder, he tackles great and his passing is ace.

The first within about 30 seconds of coming on!
