I literally know nothing about Wijnaldum. Never saw him play at Newcastle, heard he'd scored a bunch of goals from midfield.
I suppose my question really revolves around the fact we spanked >£30M on him. Despite the mental inflation in the transfer market, that kind of money is still big boy territory, so when you spend that kind of money on someone you expect them to be fairly fundamental to the way you play, or fill a desperately needed position or something.
Mignolet has had a really good start to the season. He's been unlucky with a majority of the goals concededThought Mignolet was very solid today as well. Stood up to Leicester's high balls and made a crucial save from Vardy which would have brought them back into the game again.
Hansern, did Wijnaldum save your dog from drowning or something?

£23M + 2M in add-ons. That's not bad for a player entering his prime who scores 1 in 3 from midfield (whether it's AM or CM).
I believe Wijnaldum has a few assists allready while he settles in and find his place in the team... I was not overhappy we got him but he looks a major improvement on Allen and will come useful back up when Can is back. We score four goals, creates enough to score 4 more and people have a go at our midfielders not being attacking enough.... It certainly is a weird fucking world....
He was generally in the middle 3 of a 4-3-3 for PSV but Newcastle chose to mainly play him at LW. He's a good player and can play CM although he did alway look better pushing forward from there for me.Oh, I thought we spent loads more.
He's more of an attacking mid?
Just wondering why we spent so much money on a position that seems less of a priority than others.
I guess the idea is more goals from midfield then?

I think right now Henderson is playing in Emre Can's position (defensive pivot), Wijnaldum is playing in what should be Henderson's position (a more advanced midfielder linking defense and attack) and Lallana is playing in what should be Wijnaldum's position (a goal-scoring midfielder who likes to make runs into the box). It's not working out too badly either, but I'm very curious to see how this puzzle settles once Emre is back.
I like Lallana where he is at the moment. He's doing well.

I was in a similar position with Mane - didn't know who he was, hadn't seen him play. But the first time I saw him against Barcelona it made sense - he looked exciting, pacy, dynamic. The more I see him, the more it makes sense. He offers us something we didn't really have before.
So far, from the limited amount I've seen, Wijnaldum doesn't seem to make the same kinda sense. The position he plays in didn't really seem like a priority - whether that be CM or AM (I don't actually know what position we've bought him for, hence the question about what Klopp's idea for him is) - and at the minute he doesn't look any better than what we've already got. I dunno, he kinda seems like the sort of £7M squad player Rafa would buy each year, except instead of costing £7M he cost fuckloads.
But I fully accept that I hardly watch any football and haven't got a clue about most players anymore. So my question is genuine - what is he for? What are the qualities he possesses that are (hopefully) going to make this deal worthwhile? Or have we spanked loads of money on someone who's just a bit meh?

He's very superstitious isn't he 😀Any links to Klopp losing his rag with The Kop?
The first within about 30 seconds of coming on!Stewart is boss. When he came on he was given about five hospital balls to deal with by our dipshit defense and sorted each one out no probs. I reckon he should start, he can cover defensively better than any other midfielder, he tackles great and his passing is ace.
Big game Friday, a win and fans will get carried away, a loss and it will klopp out again.
Can see a draw myself.
